So, I only watched the anime and didn't bother to follow up with the manga, but going by the threads over here it seems like the whole thing gets really depressing because Ippo starts boxing like an idiot, but wasn't the couch encouraging him the whole way through? Why are they pretending that Ippo was the one who didn't want to listen?

>No kid,not using your left isn't enough for you,the dempsey is a great weapon
>So i should have used jabs and the dempsey?
>That is it kid1
Holy shit

COACH I'M DYING WHAT DO I DO

PUNCH HARDER KID JUST PUNCH HARDER

GUTS AND NO PAIN AND PUNCH HARDER

YAMATO DAMASHII

YOU STILL HAVE OXYGEN LEFT IN YOUR MUSCLES

YAMATO DAMASHII

IPPO WINS LOL

>YOU GOTTA PUNCH HARDER BOY!
>ACTIVATE THE OXYGEN IN YOUR MUSCLES!
>CALL FORTH YOUR YAMATO DAMASHII SAMURAI BLOOD!
>REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING!

cue Ippo's brand new 720° 4th dimensional Dempsey Roll that warps time so his punches land before they're even thrown

punch harder
oxygen muscles
yamato damashii
remember your training
inherited samurai blood
Ippo fight copypasta:

>Ippo: Coach, I get the living shit beaten out of me!

>Kamogawa: Holy Fuck! I didn't think it would come to this! You gotta PUNCH HARDER, mah boy! Guts and PUNCH HARDER!

>Ippo: Ok coach, Ima gonna punch huehuarder and block some more punches with my head! Here we go! Hoyl fuck! I got plenty of oxygen in my muscles! Coach, you're the best coach ever!

>Opponent: Oh shit! He's got plenty of oxygen in his muscles! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

He regains his senses and manages to PUNCH HARDER and STICK TO THE BASICS
>ippo gets punched around for 9 rounds (roughly 20 chapters)
>ippo helpless
>kamogawa being the useless piece of shit he always is
>one eye of ippo's swells up
>ippo is about to hit the floor
NO! I HAVEN'T USED EVERYTHING I LEARNED YET! MUH TRAINING WITH COACH! HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

1. be a useless piece of shit and get beaten up for 10 rounds until one eye swells up
2. "coach what do i do"
3. "PUNCH HARDER BOY"
4. "ok coach" - punches harder
5. "OH FUCK ONE MOLECULE OF HIS GLOVE GRAZED MY CHEEK! BUT THE FORCE OF THAT WAS STRONGER THAN THE 10 ROUND BEATING I'VE GIVEN HIM, ALL AT ONCE!"
6. enemy knocked out
7. "congrats ippo! you're truly a world class boxer!"

It's just that Kamogawa wanted to live vicariously through Ippo instead of teaching him to have a long and prosperous boxing career. Is it bad writing? I don't know, but I do know that the coach is a fucking cunt.

kek
never really cared about Ippo so thanks user, picked

>Not posting the whole thing

Attached: Ippo in a nutshell.png (1432x2958, 1.32M)

I hate the author so much holy shit. Kamogawa is obviously trash but "muh nippon loyalty" and no one ever moves on from a garbo relationship.

At least a Takamura fight is about to start.
When was the last time he fought?

Not very long, he wins a lot of fights instantly. It's unbelievably awful how long (10 years?)it's taken to get to another belt and we aren't even there yet. I'm starting to think the mangaka is going for a reverse Ashita no joe by dying himself before the story reaches a satisfying conclusion.

I forgot which defense it is. Takamura had 2 belts at 160 for the longest time. I think this is his 3rd or 4th defense and he hasn't moved up yet. It would be cool if he got a 3rd belt or something, but he's fighting a nobody for a defense.

It's a really tragic story

Kojima was right in the end

I'm almost certain this is his 4th. The excuse, canonically, is 'we need more time to hammer out a financial deal with the American boxers to convince them to come here', because the Kamogawa Friends refuse to leave Japan at any and all costs.

Yeah, I have no idea why the hell the most famous and best boxers in the MW division would ever agree to fight in Japan. Instead of fighting Eagle in an arena filled with 20,000 people, one of the biggest names in boxing in the US, Eagle agreed to fight at Korakuen Hall that seats 2,000. Same for all the champs that Takamura fought as well.

No.

It was just stick to dempsy because it was gave kamogawa a hardon

Attached: 7.png (898x1300, 321K)

That is even worseThe dempsey made ippo predictable,no wonder he gets his shit pushed all the time

Is that sendou match done yet? Has ippo begun boxing again?

>1264 chapters in
>maybe I should not block punches with my face
>wtf I have 2 hands to punch with

Is there any other manga out there with lessons as deep as Ippo? I don't think there is.

>wasn't thinking
>wasn't breathing
>wasn't using left hand
Ippo had brain damage years ago.

MORE DEMPSEY ROLL IPPO
JUST USE YOUR SPECIAL MOVE YOU GOT THIS
EVOLVE IT SO IT BENDS SPACE AND TIME
WHO ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT BOXING FUNDAMENTALS

COACH I SHOULD'VE FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS EVEN MORE BLINDLY

I FORGOT TO USE MY LEFT HAND

I FORGOT TO JAB

I FORGOT TO HIT AND NOT GET HIT EVEN THOUGH YOU TOLD ME TO GO IN HEAD FIRST AND WIN EXCHANGES

I FORGOT ALL FUNDAMENTALS

You cant blame him for not realising this, i would be surprised too if my arms suddenly grew from the oxygen in my brain damage

Attached: sgrfg.png (1278x723, 963K)

Probably not coach, but maybe that means that I've invested far too much time into a one trick pony gimmick that's been worked out by every boxer thus far.
Maybe I should've been practicing my lefts 500 chapters ago, coach.

Attached: sNGPaMx.png (495x346, 72K)

Ippo literally won quite a few fights without the dempsey roll. I have no idea what the fuck he meant by this.

We're going around in circles, here.

Why not just come out and declare it if Ippo wants to box again? The author is just showing off how much of a retard and faggot his protag is at this point.

When did he even "unseal" the Dempsey roll, was it before the gonzales fight?

I wish I knew. All Ippo's fights were a blur. His infinity roll was worked on for like a few hundred chapters and he used his fundamentals to win fights.

>work on your gazelle and liver punches, kid!
>no, you need dempsey roll for the world level!
>kid! the dempsey roll is too simplistic! back to your fundamentals!
>no! you have to use your dempsey roll, you're the only one who can pull it off!
>how can you forget your fundamentals, kids?
>you think you can win without the dempsey roll!?

It's all so tiresome.

Maybe that's the point? The coach needing to remind him always either to use the damn Dempsey or to remember the basics.
What Ippo didn't realize is that it's not ONE thing (being the basics or the Dempsey) that makes you win, but being able to apply everything you know at the same time.

The thing that killed Ippo was literally him trying to force the dempsey roll so hard to impress the coach, if anything it's the reason he lost so fuckin bad. Twice.

It would make sense if the coach was telling him to become a more well-rounded fighter and never forget the things he has learned since day 1.

But that never happens. In fact, multiple times in the series you hear the coach telling Ippo to forget everything, rush in with his head, get hit with 100+ shots so he can land that ONE single good punch.

PURE OXYGEN IPPO HYPE

so when does this series turn to shit? I liked the anime a lot

Eagle wanted to fight Takamura because of Hawk

>the manga is becoming an incomprehensible blur, mimicking the effects of the CTE ippo now has from blocking punches with his face for years
Poetry.

around the 4th or so title defense it just all feels like a string of meaningless fights with little progress

The problem is that Ippo was smart and thought for himself in the past, he got more and more retarded as the manga went along, it's been said a million times in these threads but peak Ippo was his match against Karasawa.

Attached: 1512091425898.jpg (734x1180, 203K)

IT starts going downhill when Ippo starts fighting the pacific champions. Malcom Gedo and Woli in particular are incomprehensibly stupid.

I thought Ippo got punched into retirement and then went to prison for assaulting a minor

After over one thousand chapters
>Coach, maybe I should use my left too, that is something boxers do, right?
>Mmmmh... You should find the answer inside yourself boy
>C-coach, that was so deep!

In another thousand chapters he would start wondering about dodging punches instead of blocking with his face

What's gonna break first, Ippo's cranium shield or Morikawa's life support

Has Ippo started Hyperbaric therapy yet to get even more oxygen in to his muscles?

The coach is an asshole cult leader and Ippo a retarded hopeless kid that got brainwashed by him
This manga is a lost case stuck in a 80s time capsule

Maybe Ippo should learn to stop getting punched.

Kimura tier advice, you'll never activate your Samurai Blood that way

Getting CTE was the trigger all along

George literally fucking forgot his own manga. Ippo learned 1000 things but now only knows 2 things.

Getting punched causes the oxygen in your muscles to move because of the pressure, allowing you to potentially throw even stronger punches if you time them just right. It's a super dangerous technique that only someone with true samurai spirit can master.

Maybe he also developed brain damage along the series.

Maybe the real Hajime no Ippo was the CTE we developed along the way...

I vaguely remember people always saying that Ippo abandoning traditional boxing in favor of Dempsey Roll spamming was the reason he started sucking, kind of crazy that the manga now shows it really was something like that.

Of course, everyone here rightfully blames coach while the manga still pretends he's an angel

Attached: 1513499740362.jpg (1052x175, 30K)

I kinda feel bad about all this, an outstanding manga that gradually turned into a joke. Even though the threads are funny with the oxygen quotes and everything I cannot help to be a little bit sadden about how far this manga fell.
I wonder if the threads in 2ch go like this too, and whether if the reception in Japan is different than here or not.

I dunno if it became a joke, everything that doesn't involve Ippo is still fairly "kino" in my opinion.
I never cared much about Shitppo anyway, I was fucking happy Alf wrecked his shit.

When the hell is Marinez going to retire?
Nigga must be like over 36 by now

Pretty much this, but personally i'm not too sure that Ippo's current arc is necessarily bad. At least in concept, maybe in execution it is.

I don't know what you're talking about the current arc is one of the best in the manga though a little slow

His age is really fucky. The timeline for him doesn't make sense. If you count when he got his title and how long he's been fighting, he's like 40 or some shit.

This is why I never believed Ippo would beat Martinez eventually, he is way too fucking old.
Even a "he lost but only because his powerlevel decreased with age" plotline was a stretch.
And now it's downright unbelievable considering Ippo will take 500 more years to come out of retirement.

There's still a lot of other good characters actually moving up to watch, Ippo just isn't one of them.

Attached: SxBam3r.png (885x742, 470K)

Never, he has grown too powerful, he'll kill Sendo in the ring.

Based Mashiba

Some damn good shots for our boy in recent chapters

Attached: 7K65jts.png (669x880, 718K)

Right after Miyata and Ippo decide they won't fight after the match has been scheduled. That said the comedy segments are still okay it's just Ippo's arc that drags the manga down

I want Kamogawa to actually fucking die.
Maybe then this shitshow will go somewhere.

That'd only make things worse, because then Ippo will try to show off the dempsey roll to coach's ghost instead.

I don't even know where Morikawa is taking the series anymore. He's tacitly acknowledged that Ippo had been fighting like a total retard with this chapter, and then had Kamogawa claim that was the correct way to fight. But so far he hasn't had anyone call Kamogawa out on actually just being wrong.

There's only been like two instances I can think of where people call out the coach's bullshit, and it's never really acknowledged by Ippo who isn't even close to having that revelation himself.

Coach did nothing wrong. It's not his fault the kid's brain wasn't hard enough.

Attached: 1293291071122.jpg (523x391, 26K)

But it's true, backs have more fast twitch muscle fiber but less slow twitch.

It's so charmingly retarded, that i kinda like it.

Attached: hnitkmrp.png (138x241, 34K)

>WAAAAAH WHY WON'T COACH SCOLD ME!?
>DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT ME ANYMORE COACH!?
>YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY FATHER FIGURE!
I hate Ippo

all of that

that entire fucking arc of ippo losing and then giving up on boxing

all of it

every single page

every single chapter

was to lead up to the conclusion

that the only problem with his technique

is he doesnt left jab enough

i am going to fucking kill myself

Attached: 1428937655687.png (326x329, 196K)

I don't think that's really the conclusion, it's just Ippo grasping at straws because he can't handle the idea of losing.

Attached: 6757643897532.jpg (602x433, 34K)

>woli
That was when I dropped the manga, so fucking retarded

Someone with autism go check Ippo's fight with the Filipino and Gonzalez. I refuse to believe Ippo didn't throw a single fucking left jab.

the implication is that he just didn't use them to keep initiative or space well, I'm sure he randomly threw them out at least sometimes.

can we hope of a madhouse final season with original ending ?

aren't you extremely optimistic

You're crazy to think we'd even get another season.

Didn't the dempsey roll get like instantly shut down and not work for pretty much like the past 5-6 fights and it failed against literally everyone on the world stage?

720 ROTATION DEMPSEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

yes

Attached: 1.png (1028x2984, 2.09M)

>The match begins
>Ippo is punching his opponents fist with his face. Every once in a while he jabs blindly nowhere near the opponent.
>"It's no good! The opponents fist isn't getting tired at all! I'll have to use my dempsey rolls form!"
>Ippo starts spinning around with his arms outstretched like a helicopter.
>Coach watching, a tear of pride in his eyes.
>"This is the result of the boys hard work! A dempsey roll that can punch in every direction at once! The 720 rotation dempsey!"

no way ippo should return to the ring. no matter how many Reddit babies desire it. they're still faggots out there thinking ippo returning to box is a good idea.

this chapter just confirms he's needs to stay retired.

Takamura said the real reason long ago.
He's too afraid to cross the monster line.

At the same time Takamura is a fucked up boxing prodigy and perhaps his opinion on why people aren't as successful as they should be could be skewed.
The problem with "crossing the line" is that it probably just means completely disregarding your long term wellbeing and throwing yourself 100% into the ring, and all that'll mean for ippo is him doing the dempsey roll with even less consideration for the vibrating jelly in his skull.

No, it's probably just not being afraid to execute your opponents when you fight them. Ippo's too soft (aside from that single time he fought his ex-student).

Ippo is braindead, if the coach says "Boy, its time for you to show your pupils how to box" he would pick the gloves in a jiffy and would get ready to be demolished again

I think Takamura was trying to say Ippo should be more agressive and merciless on the ring. But thats stupid because Ippo's real problem is not that he is too soft but that he has no skills.
Takamura is a retard and probably has no real advice to give

Reminds me of boku no picodemia but funnier

Attached: 1559736224805.jpg (332x327, 21K)

Maybe, although I don't think there's been that many hints to him holding back.
You're probably right though because George seems to have talked about Ippo going all angry mode at least twice, which would suck because the two times he did it was because he was having a tantrum over someone disrespecting the coach, which makes his character even more one dimensional.

>Ippo retires after his boxing style degrades into the literal Homer style, just letting his opponents wear themselves out punching him until he can knock them over.
>Unsiprisingly, this style doesn't work on the world level, just like the original Homer style except Ippo's coach is too stubborn to throw in the towel and just lets his boxer get his brains beaten out of him while waiting for an opening that isn't coming.
>Ippo after retirement: "Man, I was dodging too much (fucking when!?) and should have punched more."
>Coach: "No, you should use the dempsey roll more because I like that move and it won you a couple of your early matches against weaker opponents."

10/10 development and progression.

IPPO, MY BOY.
KEEP DOING THAT MOVE WITH VERY OBVIOUS WINDUPS THAT CAN LITERALLY BE DEFEATED SIMPLY BY BACKSTEPPING.
IT'LL TAKE YOU TO THE WORLD.

Attached: ippo.png (1040x4924, 1.9M)

How

I think the Coach told them the left wouldn't have changed anything as a lie to let Ippo retire.

This was one of the best sports manga and the only good shounen out there how do i cope with the fact that it went to shit.....?

Attached: 1529384625144.png (322x340, 69K)

Then he wouldn't have waxed lyrical over his dempsey roll and made him think it was a tool he could use to win.

Read Eyeshield 21

Read the boxing manga from Miura's friend.

that would just be another part of the lie.

"the dempsey roll got you to the world stage. that's good enough. the left wouldn't have mattered."

Coach doesn't want to give him any hope/ideas of coming back by admitting the wrongs.

It'd definitely be a welcoming change from every other asshole coaxing him to try boxing again.

I was planning to,i still have slam dunk to get through before.
Author or manga name?

Kek. Put it one more time at the bottom.

Just fight it out in some alley esh

IT HAS TO BE IN THE RING
I WILL SULK, AND I WILL CRY
UNTIL IPPO GIVES ME MY SALTY RUNBACK FROM LIKE 1200 CHAPTERS AGO

This is some gay ass Disney shit, like they're about to do a musical number about not knowing their place in the world.

He didn't say that it's the correct way as much as that if he only sticked to the basis without unleashing the Dempsey the result would've been the same.
The coach is focusing on what he did good (the Dempsey) even though he didn't deny that he has been neglecting the jabs; but since Ippo's not fighting anymore he doesn't want to be harsh with him, and tells him to teach that to his proteges instead.
tldr he's saying "it's true that you neglected jabs, which is bad; but developing the Dempsey Roll was also important"

>Ippo starts spinning around with his arms outstretched like a helicopter.
They'll be in total fear of his impressive RPM: amazon.com/review/RQFCVKROOZGLC

>when someone who organizes underground death matches have more compassion to the fighters than kamogawa.

so what if takamura loses this one?

Attached: pXDUVJe.jpg (616x289, 78K)

A ring is a ring,no matter where you go

So did he Ippo finally realize that his wasn't punching hard enough and that's why he lost?

>so what if takamura loses this one?
He will have to put him down

Someone post that Baki page about using a jab to quickly hit someone. Most relevant page ever.

He realized he didn't punch at all with his left.

This was the early warning sign this manga was going downhill. It is incredibly hard to switch hit even for professionals who've been fighting for years let alone a high school kid. I can only name 4 switch hitters in boxing today.

Martinez like Takamura is a less of a fighter and more of a plot device

The thing is the Dempsey rolled was effective mainly because it was used by a 6'1 heavyweight against other heavyweights. It loses some effectiveness when its not used by heavyweights because body type, footspeed, reaction time, and power changes so much when you go down 10 divisions and drop down 80+ pounds. Morikawa probably saw the Dempsey Roll as a cool thing and decided the protag should use it never thinking that it would be effective for featherweights to use

Attached: 1512360492753.png (2500x1975, 3.72M)

Takamura is fighting the GOAT

Attached: 016.png (898x1300, 418K)

Okay but why the fuck is Ippo doing his own fighting strategies? That is the coach job, not the figher.

Now that I think about it, Aoki and Kimuta coach is even fucking worse, he is never there, he doesnt give advice or anything, for fucks sake, when Ippo gave them advice they started doing better.

Aoki fought with his eyes closed for years and his coach either didnt notice or cared, every time a suggestion is brought for them it doesnt come from either coach

Holy shit Kamogawa is retarded. What the fuck??
>You wouldn't have won without the Dempsey Roll
>Lefts rule the world

Am I missing something?? Is Kamogawa the one with CTE? Do I have CTE?? Am I retarded?

favorite character

it seems that he found a waifu

remember when the art in this series was actually good?

No, he actually spills the bean in this chapter: Ippo's boxing is beautiful to him, and that's worth losing and getting brain damages. That's actually what he is saying. I can't believe it myself.

I still find it hilarious how well these later Ippo arcs parallel with that simpsons boxing episode. The whole thing was presented as a joke that wouldn't work in real boxing and Moe had to choose between his friend or winning, yet in Ippo they are serious about it and just let Ippo get beat to near death because they firmly believe he just needs that one good punch to win.

Even nip fans make fun of it nowadays. I've even seen THAT screenshot compilation and simpsons comparison get posted over there before. They laugh at the same shit we do with this series.

Attached: jab.jpg (728x1097, 155K)

this one?

Attached: basics.jpg (783x2400, 283K)

What if he finally dies or goes full retard from further defending with his face, and every single boxer he tries that shit on just imagines he's a complete waste of space?
Followed by Coach having a pint in the pub, and laughing about the waste of talent he trained, and how he should have gotten a better one to showcase how his style can be effective.

Attached: Hohee~.png (613x855, 421K)

Well, as far as i can tell, this is just step 1. You see, Mashiba had 3(4) weaknesses. It feel like were gonna discover similliar aount of them in Ippo, then hes gonna overcome em, and then comeback. Or not, and author is just trolling

I still keep up with the manga, though I don't know why. If Ippo would take up boxing again and we could start seeing him participate in matches again, I'd be so happy.

Attached: Ippo monster.jpg (1216x872, 377K)

Wait, whatever happened to girl who was willing to go full yandere for him in case anyone started planting the idea that should keep on fighting like a colossal retard?

I think most people won't ever drop a manga if they stuck with it for 1000+ chapters. Just gotta stay and see how silly things can get.

the only way he'll be successful in the ring now is he somehow doesn't get hit.

>ippo unlocks musou tensei dempsey roll

Kamikaze boxing makes the coach hard with patriotic pride

she's celebrating with her brother.

Omae wa mou... Dempsey Rollu

Attached: Screenshot_20181015-110023_Chrome.jpg (206x213, 37K)

The coach encouraged that shit too. 100% living vicariously through ippo even if that's not the authors intent
>who fucking knows the authors intent at this point anymore

Its a wild guess, but maybe the author is a hack than cant write for shit

That's hilarious. I forgot how much dementia the coach has

I'm pretty sure the coach has criticized him for not using the dempsey and then when he did use it in the next fight the coach goes
>wtf why are you using the dempsey it doesn't work!

Why is takamura so loyal to the coach? The only thing he's ever been taught was the basic jab

>why the fuck is Ippo doing his own fighting strategies

This happens a lot in boxing. You sometimes hear the coach screaming "go to the body!" but the fighter keeps head hunting. The reason is because the fighter isn't fast enough. If he goes to the body and misses or doesn't connect, he gets countered with with a hook to the head. If you're not fast enough or can't react fast enough, you get countered.

Wow that's deep. Zombie American Sitcom > Ashita No Joe Successor.

At the end of the day he got him off the streets and into a life of glory

He gave him purpose (more like a hobby)
Thats all really

Dude, he lives like a neet on a rundown hole and everyone hates him, he doesnt even has a lover

You want to hear something even more stupid? Cornermen do their assigned jobs during the breaks like icing a fighter or working on cuts and bleeds but during the round the cornermen are supposed to watch the fight and filter information into the head coach. You will have one guy strictly watching the opponent and another guy strictly watching their own fighter and telling the head coach what they're seeing, like if their own fighter is dropping their hand after the jab or if the other fighter isn't properly tucking his elbow in, all that information goes to the head coach who then directs their fighter during the breaks on what to do. That mean's that not only Aoki's trainer didn't see Aoki fighting with closed eyes but that Yagi and Kamogawa all these years missed it too.

Don't pay attention to Ippo's boxing arc. The side characters like Volg have solid mini arcs, and Mashiba just got one. Ippo's retirement is also fun to read.

The funny oxygen quotes are just us coping with how stupid and shit something we loved became.

Try to understand what the coach is saying. He equates the left to a sword, and then equates ippo to a sword as his entire body. He's saying that Ippo used his entire body to do the things that the left supposedly does by diving in.

He can probably fuck whenever he wants, and his current accomodation is mostly due to his poor money management skills, like buying a statue of himself or little custom figureheads.
He still would've just been a street thug all his short life if coach didn't see his potential, at least for that its fair to be thankful.

Wow that's deep. Like, every punch Ippo did was a jab? A dempsey roll jab, an uppercut jab, a counter jab.

This, basically.

Objectively speaking the person with the best perspective on the minute-to-minute details is the fighter in the ring. Getting two steps closer to set up a good liver push may be genuinely physically impossible under circumstances that only the fighter can or has determined.

The mangaka makes fights look really good... in real life they're usually a sloppy mess like Aokimura's matches. Two people dancing around each other trying to pen in and hit a moving target can make even high level boxing look like two dudes just flailing around each other, until something connects you get shown just how strong that flailing really is.

Ippo should be thinking of his strategies, tactics, and everything else. A fighter needs to understand their own weaknesses, though for Ippo mixing feints, jabs, and start-stop motions in with the "roll" would come across more as just average world level boxing, in which if one fighter allows the other fighter to engage in continuous, fast movement, they're either making a mistake, trying to bait something, or they simply don't have the ability to stop the other fighter and gain control of the space.

It's in the latter two that all the "great" boxers have had their stomping matches where they literally roll over an opponent like they weren't even defending themselves and people who don't know boxing much say shit like "why didn't he block, tho?" But it's really like "he did block some of that, and his arms got too hurt to punch back with force, so that's why he couldn't do anything." There's always a reason.

Ippo, at least, understands the beginning of world level technique in the manga's world. Understanding is not enough, which may be the Coach's point in trying to stop him.

What if Ippo jabs with both hands by quickly shifting his body around with each punch? Who could possibly beat him then?

Ippo can come back as soon as we see how Taihei and Kintaro do in an actual fight. Ippo's first time as a second in Kimura's match was one of the funniest parts in the manga and his first time as a coach should be just as entertaining.

Both times were when he was alone and not with ippo too.

His family is rich tho

*steps back/sways back*
lmao nerd

And then there's great fighters that take advantage of the ones that got to the world level with strong advancement tendencies.

By running away the whole match and planting jabs for points. Letting the other guy get winded while they rake in millions being an insurmountable heel. To be fair of course, defense and running away at high levels just isn't something most fighter will ever be capable of. It's difficult enough that the few who have made it a main strategy are known names outside of people who pay attention to boxing.

Why this manga sucks so much?

It spends a lot of time between fights reinforcing points the reader already fully understands and this doesn't serve the pacing well.

Because the author burned out on it and ran out of ideas a long time ago and is now just going in circles and stalling for time to keep the series going.

Whenever it's time for humor you know the next three pages are going to be wasted on a bad joke.

How many times would have Ippo lost, if Kamogawa threw the towel, every time he was suppose to?

12.

Mori mocks his fans so much. I'm surprised no ones beat his ass for it yet

It's almost like being a fan of actual boxers!

I hope Hackikawa makes takimura lose to be ironic or pretend to be a deep writer. It might spark enough outrage at the manga that it'll get canned.

>little custom figureheads.
>He still would've just been a street thug all his short life if coach didn't see his potential, at least for that its fair to be thankful.
Dude floyd mayweather jr likely has tons of statues and shit in his mansion. Even rocky balboa (fictonal boxer) has a statue

When will it eeend?

Decuck realizing he has feet.

Listen, that's different.

He realized he can kick.
TOTALLY different thing.

>This was one of the best sports manga and the only good shounen
OG DB and HnK are peak Shonen, tho.

Georgie boy has predictable writing. Mashiba is the redeemed villain and Baron and Iga were the bad guys so naturally they had to lose. The only time the 'Bad Guys' win are so that they are set up to fall against a main cast member. When was the last time a 'Bad Guy' won a big fight?

Mashiba beat Miyata in the Rookie tournament?

Boxers don't get paid very much. Sure you hear stories about Mayweather, Klitschko, Cotto, Canelo, and Pacquiao paychecks being multimillion dollar checks, but most champions don't make a mil every time they fight and many non-titlest fighters make 5/6 figures every time they fight. But the biggest thing that isn't known is how much of the paycheck a fighter losses.

The components of a fighter is the business side, the training camp, and fight night. On the business side you have promoters and managers, sometimes more then one. These are the people that take care of all the business transactions and negotiations so a fighter won't have to worry about it. However those guys get paid in percentages right off the top. Victor Ortiz claimed his old manager used to take 33% right off the top. Fighters love Al Haymon because he only charges 10% off the top. Promoters take their percentages too off the top so the boxer losses a hefty percentage of his paycheck just to those two entities. Now when a fighter enters his training camp he has to maintain equipment, hire sparring partners, and he may have auxiliary help like a nutritionist and a strength and conditioning coach. All of those he ends up paying out of pocket or from his paycheck. Trainers and cornermen during fight night either take percentages or flat fees that's been negotiated before. All in all a fighter may make a million dollars on fight night but after everyone is paid he takes half of that home. And then the US govt comes and takes their ounce of flesh too. So while boxing paychecks sound amazingly high especially for a single night's work, there's a lot of people with their hands in the boxer's paycheck.

Floyd Mayweather is the outlier of boxing paychecks. Dude has legit made over a billion dollars in the sport and continues to make money in boxing even though he's retired.

But its true, boxers spend money on stupid stuff because many of them are stupid. A lot of guys are uneducated poverty kids that were groomed to be good at fighting and nothing else and many fall into the general athlete category of not having plans after [sport] to be financially secure. Michael Katsidis was a moderately successful boxer who nearly went bankrupt because he was a poor guy that suddenly had hundred of thousands of dollars and didn't know what to do with it so he bought expensive jewelry.

How long ago was that?

Uhh....

How do you write away brain damage? What is the point of this manga now

He doesn't have brain damage.

then why was he passing out of consciousness his last fight

Hadn't healed from his fight with Gonzales and his brain and mind was still mush.

Attached: 1408516887781.jpg (368x477, 69K)

Takamura hasnt had a world title match at korakuen hall though, he had them at arenas that seat tens of thousands

Did they really translate the oxygen meme compilation? What did they say about it?

I like Rikudo.

I can't tell if Morikawa's a hack or if he's being real subtle in his writing. This chapter is either "going full yamato damashi was the right choice Ippo, my coaching is fucking genius" stupid, or "well you were looking for a finisher to prevent matches from dragging out, and that served you well, in retrospect I think I was blinded by that perspective as well, but anyway you're not a fighter anymore, so great figuring that out" smart. I'm willing to bet it's fucking stupid, but every now and then I feel like there's smart writing waiting in ambush.

So when is this getting updated?

Attached: New powerchart.jpg (1654x5300, 1.25M)

Getting KTFO isn't an immediate sign of brain damage, plenty of guys have been legit knocked to sleep, woken up and have had fine lives. The ones to look out for are the ones that have to go to hospital, don't take care of themselves, or get back to even just sparring way too soon.

>Ippo watches a match where a fighter is completely dependent on his coach, always rushes in, doesn't think for himself or act autonomously, and gets destroyed for it
>Ippo's conclusion is, "I SHOULD HAVE THROWN MORE LEFTS AND FOLLOWED YOUR TEACHINGS COACH"

Attached: 1536846465106.jpg (728x704, 61K)

>Takamura loses
>Kamogowa dies
>Miyata announces he's staying in the same weight class
>Kumi feels guilty and tells him to go back
>some literal who convinces him to go back
Which unlikely reason would you like for Ippo to return?

Ippo (dos brazos) might soon see a surge in power and maybe reveal an entirely new Ippo.

Or third option
>this will be the arc where Kamogowa finally gets outed as a foolish old bastard who lives vicariously through Ippo with no regard for his health and personal development

Mashima got an upgrade though, he gets powered up and cleansed of debuffs from his cheerleaders.

>>>Ippo's conclusion is, "I SHOULD HAVE THROWN MORE LEFTS AND FOLLOWED YOUR TEACHINGS COACH"
very good point. He's the epitome of "weak japanese male" archetype

>1
then
>2
then
>4
then
>3

I mean
12534

I mean, that would kind of fall into the second option, in my mind at least.

>you just didnt block punches hard enough.

Attached: 1488937934034.jpg (400x400, 12K)

this made me laugh way more than it should.

Is it normal that i love sports manga and anime, but never was interested in any real sport at all? I loved Slam Dunk and now 15 volumes in Ippo and it's really engaging for me too. I feel kinda dumb that i ignored the sports genre for this long

When Ricardo goes all out.

>Is it normal
>i love... ...manga and anime
lmao nerd

Then why the fuck do you read them niggga, i can only find interesat in sport manga that treat a sport that i actually played. You should go outside more.

i'm watching the first series and just got past the volg fight. That was fucking amazing, does the series top this?

It does, but you should stop watching after the first series and pretend it ended there. There are some high points later on, but at least the ending to the first series is satisfying and I doubt we are going to get a better ending

If you mean the anime then i don't know, i never watched it. if you mean the manga then yes, multiple times.

That's too funny. What's next, the couch dying like Raoh while saying I regret nothing?

Attached: 1555781552290.jpg (1059x934, 115K)

I hope Ippo comes back and invents the Dempsey Jab. It's where he rocks his arm back and forth very quickly and unleashes a series of quick punches that are quick, accurate, and hard to predict. A move the likes of which we have never seen before.

Lost at Kumi pregnant

>Jesus Date
>not buki date

Yeah that's the worst.
Iga literally was Ippo in like all his International matches, doing everything he did IE take punches to the face, not try to get in safetly or adapt to his opponent, etc.
But the lesson we were supposed to get out of it was 'Ippo doesn't use his lefts as much'
That's why I'm astonished the Japanese fanbase doesn't think Coach is bad. Because we literally got an evil version of coach who did the same thing but with less faith and empathy.

>t is incredibly hard to switch hit even for professionals who've been fighting for years
Do you even read the manga or do you just come here to shitpost?
Ippo switched as a gamble and instantly failed at it

Oh fuck yeah, I've been missing Ippo threads.

OH
MY
LEFT
HAND

When was the last time we ever had a fight that actually mattered. Where the opponent didnt just come from nowhere and was not a side characters coming back?

Attached: 1539237219731.jpg (500x500, 68K)

>blocking and avoiding hits? TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS! JUST GET IN THERE AND PUNCH HIM WHENEVER HE PUNCHES YOU!

Attached: BeginningOfTheBrainDamage.png (766x1100, 186K)

>later that night
>KID I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL YOU DID WAS TRADE PUNCHES!

Attached: BeginningOfTheBrainDamage2.png (763x1100, 204K)

>throwing nothing else but hooks

Attached: burn.jpg (1440x1080, 706K)

OH AND I JUST REMEMBER SOMETHING ELSE THAT PISSED ME OFF
IPPO BEING UPSET THE COACH ISN'T YELLING AT HIM
HOW MUCH A FUCKING BATTERED HOUSEWIFE DO YOU HAVE TO BE, THAT SOMEONE NOT YELLING AT YOU FEELS WRONG

To be fair the author is showing this too with Mashai and Sendo so in their reality it must be true.

The problem of Ippo is not based on him being soft, his problem is that all his skills and abilities are dated as hell and his use of the Dempsey Roll got to the point where is considerated a cliche.
The fight with Alf explain everything wrong with him. Alf mentions he has power, stamina and he is tough but lacks any real skill, it's a miracle he was that close to fighting Martinez. Look at Date instead, the man was strong but wasn't strong like Ippo, but he had technique and ability.

Attached: 1508866528939.jpg (902x1728, 613K)

It really is retarded when you think about how Ippo made it all the way to Numero 2 just with retard strength, he even almost beat Gonzales, although only because Gonzales went full retard.

>although only because Gonzales went full retard.
Yeah. Alfie cleaned the floor with him during most of the fight using just skill. But got so mad that Ippo was retarded that he also started to act like a retard. Imagine if Martinez was the one fighting Ippo instead of Gonzales, poor Ippo would be dead by now.

Attached: 1508864606284.jpg (800x1454, 468K)

He also forgot an important lesson

Attached: 1408516887785.jpg (1500x600, 689K)

Why did kamogawa think ippo was ready for the world when he got raped by woli and almost lost to bald magician guy in asia

Because he's a gunjumping fuckup that would be lambasted as a shite coach if it wasn't for Takamura's raw assraping talent.
