In the LN? Nothing really because the editor makes him into a better person (which is the complete opposite of the point of the series). In the WN he chokes out the clown when he finds out he’s partly responsible for Rem’s coma. Then someone kicks his eye out and he becomes punished Subaru that loop. Of course the LN cut all this

I agree some parts of arc 4 went on way too long in WN. But the problem with the LN is that it removes or changes too many things for the worse. For example:

>Envy never invades during trial 1
>all foreshadowing of Roswaal having a gospel is removed until the final reveal

If you’ve read both the WN and LN scene of Subaru with coma Rem you’d know why the WN version is vastly superior. In the WN he is crushed to the point of almost giving up, doesn’t want Emilia to see him so weak, and vows to kill gluttony no matter what.

Emilia has seen him weak before, several times. Not sure why you like the WN arc 4 characterization when it feels kind of hamfisted.

LN is incredibly watered down. They took a new direction of adapting the WN content at the end of arc 3 which is why saying that "LN Arc 1-3 are identical to the WN", yes we know and we get it. The main problem is that the LN has dumbed its writing down much more in order to fit a future adaptation in mind
