There wasn't even a nakama powerup thing here anyway, just Homura screaming at her opponent and a straight up fight. I like the martial arts fights the best when I can mentally follow their movements, so the Dragon Flash here was neat.

There's also the distinct possibility that this isn't actually a replica, and due to Xiao Mei seemingly being able to control time/space it's actually Valkyrie pretending to be a copy.

I've got nothing against Homura though.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that picture when it comes to determining which characters Mashima did or didn't make up on the spot. For instance, Pino is nowhere to be seen in the spread, yet Mashima created her and mapped out her whole character arc for the series before he decided to reuse Happy, because it suddenly became difficult to have her appear in the first chapter.

Also, Mashima said in Volume 4's afterword that Homura was meant to show up later than she did. So she was definitely someone he had in mind for a while.

Probably because Mashima didn't think of her until the Tower of Heaven arc at the latest. But not many people would know, since the anime cut out the line alluding to her. (At least until the anime's latest episode, which kept the flashback to that very line that the anime originally cut as if it was always there to begin with.)

I just noticed the subtle difference in shape between Homura and Valkyrie's swords. Homura's sword has a guard above the hand like an Eastern sword, while Valkyrie's sword guard wraps around her hand like a Western sword.

For some reason I like Rebecca a lot more than Lucy and Homura is also on her way to be more entertaining than most FT girls. He seems to be doing something right. I guess the new girls (and new characters in general) don't yet have all the added baggage of bullshit that Mashima wrote for them over the years.

I like Rebecca more too, I think she's got more potential for growth. It's nice that she's not a perpetual nobody like Lucy was, even until the end there were still people familiar with Erza and Natsu, but never heard of Lucy. Rebecca's kind of the opposite, she seems to be gaining popularity now that she switched from being a B-cuber to an action hero.

Lucy wasn't entirely useless, but I dunno, she just bores me.
