Darling in the FranXX.
evangelion. my friend that got on Yea Forums in elementary told me it was the best anime ever so I watched it a bit later in my life. it was decent but I was confused by the anime tropes. haven’t seen it since though, I need refresh
Welcome to the NHK
Umi no Toriton, watched it on TV as a kid.
Either Daimos or Yattaman, can't remember for exactly, they aired simultaneously.
Onegai Teacher
Wolf's rain
Zero No Tsukaima. Watched it with Yea Forums because a friend told me this site enjoyed it. Don't know if I regret him telling me that.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Noir
I don't remember any of it but apparently I used to watch anime on TV in Japan in the mid 90s. The first ones I remember though are Speed Racer, Pokemon, and DBZ. The former on VHS tapes I had and the latter two on TV in the US.
Sailor moon
The original Tenchi Muyo
based
Pokemon
Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry
Keijo!!!!!!!!
Goddamn I am such a newfag
This post disturbs me.
Good anime though.
My cousin kept pestering me to watch Madoka
Boku no your mom
BEGONE ZOOMERS.
Heidi, which aired on TV over here.
DBZ dubbed, Naruto subbed
Watched it on Animax
First anime period? G-Force or Speed Racer (I was 5 back then)
First anime: either Pokemon or Love Hina
First manga: either Pokespec or Love Hina (or a Volume of Alita)
FMA 2003
I grew up in the states so I got exposed to the usual suspects growing up, dragonball etc. Dont really count those though since they didn’t kick off the obsession and I lost interest around the start of middle school. Around 18-19ish being a bored neet I got exposed to papa kiki while trying to find a site to rewatch gundam.
The little lord Faunteroy.
Yeah really.
Something that aired on TV, but I'm not sure what it was.
Maybe it was Pokemon, or Dragon Ball, or Detective Conan, or Ranma 1/2.
The first ones I remember looking up on the Internet are Death Note, and Girls Bravo
After that it was probably
Daigunder (pic related) also on Animax
A bunch of more Animax stuff
Pokemon
Beyblade
Digimon
Dragon Ball Z
Shin Chan
Doraemon
One Piece
Naruto
Bleach
A bunch more stuff, and it's still all just stuff I saw on TV
It was either Shaman King or Pokémon. I don't really remember.
Probably this or Doraemon/shin-chan
Cardcaptor Sakura
Probably Speed Racer, Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon, I don't really remember.
Some combination of Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo, Pokemon, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Blue Submarine No. 6, Cardcaptor Sakura, Medabots, multiple gundams series and Zoids.
Hellsing (TV)
flint the time detective
the worst kind of gateway anime
Heidi
DBZ or Pokemon dubbed on a national broadcasting channel
Technically Dragonball Z, but I don't count it because every kid and their dog watched it when Cartoon Network still ran re-runs of it. I consider my first Familiar of Zero. Back then I saw Louise as a sexy older sister type. Now I see her as a cute daughteru. It's a very strange feel.
Sailor Moon. It was 1995.
I remember being 5 years old and waking up extra early to watch Looney Toons and catching Sailor Moon sometimes. It blew my child mind that these weird Chinese cartoons actually had continuity. When I tuned in after Nephlite's death and saw Molly actually dealing with losing her boyfriend.
When something happened tu Bugs Bunny, everything was back to normal by the next episode. SM was the first time I saw a character die in any kind of fiction. Sometimes I wish I never got into anime.
>Back then I saw Louise as a sexy older sister type
>Louise
>sexy older sister
were you scrawny as fuck back when you was a kid?
No I was in middle school. She was canonically sixteen and I was like 11 at the time.
I recently started hanging out with people young enough to have this as their gateway anime.
either heidi or princess mononoke, my dad had it on vhs
Not counting DBZ as a kid it was probably Soul Eater
Do VHS tapes of the original Speed Racer count?
>No one mentioned Pokémon yet
Candy Boy
this piece of hot garbage
because we had better taste in media when we were little children then now. aka parents
see
It's pretty obscure, you guys won't have heard of it. It's called Goblin Slayer Season 3. I never saw the first two but I hear it was shit.
Reruns of 60s anime like Speed Racer and Astro Boy
Sailor Moon on TV in the late 90s
I liked the cute girls and monster battles but actually the best thing about it for me was the humor. Shit was wholesome.
Forgot what it's called but I distinctly remember it being about a team of super-powered animals and with a mouse as the leader and there was a chicken that was a human(?) girl for some reason.
See Only one said Digimon.
>all these underage niggers ITT
Face it old man, our time is over, their time is now. Also summer started.
When I was around 5 and was still in Hong Kong, I remember watching Chibi Maruko-chan, Doremon and Crayon Shin-chan. I didn't know anime and cartoon were two different things until I moved to US at around 1997. Then I remember watching Yu yu hakusho, Sailor Moon and Sister Princess around early 2000 with my older sister who used to download anime. Now she has long moved on from it and I'm still a bonafide weeb. Those were old shows that I no longer watch but they are precious memories to me.
>tfw came an inhuman number of times to the non-R18 art of this VN because legfag
it was a more innocent time...
Boku no Pico
Lucky Star
>was still in Hong Kong
good thing you got out while you still can, where you at right now?
US, NY. I'm working in a hospital now as a patient escort and we both visited HK a few years ago and made up our minds to never live there just because of the culture barrier. I don't regret ever getting into anime because I feel it was inevitable due to circumstances.
>good thing you got out while you still can
Did something happen?
Dragonball, Samurai Pizza Cats, and Sailor Moon.
Pokemon, Digimon and Cardcaptor Sakura on CITV
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
The summers of today are the oldfags of tomorrow. Nothing lasts forever. We'll all be gone soon, and nothing of value will have been lost.
>super-powered animals
Can't help but think of this. I also brought a Liger Zero and thought it was pretty cool.
This is super popular in my country for some unknown reason.
It was lupin the 3rd however it was in France which is where things got weird. So other there the show was renamed Edgar le detective cambrioleur (edgar the detective thief) and even had its own original op.
youtu.be
Psammead, the magic goblin
We are getting absorbed back to China and we are seeing more and more steps being taken on that path with every passing day, HK used to be the last truly "free" city in China and our time is apparently up.
You enjoy yourself out there, if I am not being tied down by my family I would have bailed out of HK while I still can.
Digimon, but I guess my first real anime was the Hellsing TV show

You should be happy that Yea Forums is the least affected major board on Yea Forums after all that we have been through together.
Boards like Yea Forums, Yea Forums and /int/ are barely recognizable from what they were used to be 10 years ago.
June just started. Kids have more access to internet and phones so more underage kids will show up on this damnable place with every passing year.
Hang in there dai lo. Move to US if you can.
Elfen Lied
Not just in Sweden. Denmark, Norway, and Finland. Baka BT had a torrent for the whole anime with English, Finnish, AND Swedish subtitles. Blew my mind.
Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh were the first anime I watched
Death Note was the first anime I watched seriously
Probably the VHS fist of the north star 'film' which I learned later was the first series compressed into 90 minutes or so. Didn't make a whole lot of sense.
Also watched ninja scroll on VHS and some other things I've forgotten that would sometimes be on the sci-fi channel.
Pretty much didn't watch anything until a friend got me into death note when it was all the rage.
Watched hundreds of series since then... Probably damaged me more than I like to admit ;_;
Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z.
That and Green Green were the first anime I remember watching online.
Winnie the pooh.
I used to know weebs that loved Naruto and they were the biggest cancerous weeb faggots I'd ever met.
The first I ever watched were the ones on Nickelodeon. Adventures of the Little Koala, and Noozles.

The one that made me discover anime as a unique thing was Sailor Moon. I remember waking up really early one morning and seeing it by chance. After that I had to figure out why it was so different from everything else.
Did you get Sailor Moon and DBZ too?
That was like the big 5 for kids back in the day.
If I have the luxury to choose a place to move to you bet my ass I would move to Japland before any other country, I am N2 at the moment but I am just not sure about getting a job there. Thanks anyways.
Dragon Ball
Maya the bee.
Love Hina and Hellsing which were burned on some CDs and labeled with sharpie. Neither of my older brothers remember doing it but my oldest brother watches titty anime now so I know it was him.
Detective Conan
We did get Sailor Moon but for some reason I thought it was too girly even though I loved Cardcaptor Sakura. As far as I know DBZ wasn't on UK TV back then and I've still never watched it.
Do you remember the Litl Bits too?! I can remember watching it just like it was yesterday
DBZ and Pokemon aren't really valid. Literally everyone watched them on TV when they were kids. I think the point of the thread is when did you go out of your way to start watching anime or what show really piqued your interest.
> I also brought a Liger Zero and thought it was pretty cool.
When did you get it? The cheapest I can find one for now is 100$.
Started here, but now I'm all about the psychological thriller genre and can't enjoy most shounenshit now.
Do you love Lain?
Tokyo ghoul
A long time ago at around elementary or middle school. It was different back then and I'm not into models right now.
You can do it if you keep practicing Davido-kun. It's important to communicate with native speakers too, you will learn a lot that way.
Lain is even worse than shounen
>We did get Sailor Moon but for some reason I thought it was too girly
I had 2 older sisters. It used to piss me off because in my country they played it before DBZ. So you had to watch that boring shit first.
I know I watched some of it, but I don't really remember it as much. They had Maya the Bee too and I don't think I cared about it.
Not anime, but I still fucking love David the Gnome and own DVDs of it.
Pengu.
Shounenfags don't have the IQ to understand Lain, it seems.
Pokemon. Some of my friends were into DBZ, but I wasn't interested in it for one reason or another. The first anime I really got into was Trigun. Besides Fox Kids, there was really just Adult Swim.
People with an IQ lower than 100 think that Lain is intelligent and deep
This.
A toss-up between DBZ (Ocean Group) and Sailor Moon, back when they were on TV.
Escaflowne my nigga. The scene where Van goes apeshit and decimate pretty much all the Zaibach knights marked my young lad mind forever.
Doraemon, though the first one I think I took seriously was Code Geass
Kimba the white lion on VHS.
Pretty much the earliest memories of mine, watching VHS in the rental shop where my mother worked.
I'm pretty sure it was this shit.
The Vision of Escaflowne, which for some reason aired on Fox Kids a long time ago.
Gave me a lifelong obsession with angel wings.
First serious anime I watched was either NGE when I was a kid (was with an older friend) or either Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke in my high school Japanese class.
I came to Yea Forums thinking about Miyazaki films and then discovered 5cm Per Second around 2009/2010.
Been an anime hobbyist since then.
Ants first
Only correct answer
At least it is not the '69 series.
This and Kimba were both airing at the same time in Australia in the mid '60s
I don't remember, some shit on tv prob
(me)
Oh, wait, no, it was undoubtedly My Neighbor Totoro. My mom got it for VHS and I watched it when I was very young. I remember being terrified of the dust bunnies.
this
Moomin, Heidi or Fist of the north star, I watched all 3 of them on TV when I was a kid, can't remember which one was first
Cringe
If we're not including the usual Pokemon/Yugioh then Code Geass if we are then Pokemon.
Fortnite
That reminds me. I Totoro was probably the first anime I saw. My 7th grade social studies teacher had a copy of the VHS he'd gotten in Japan and showed it to us. There were no subs, and he called it Dodolo, but it was some good shit.
Probably Granzort, on tapes at a friend's house when I was like 5 or something. Then all the toonami shit on TV like dragonball, sailormoon etc.
Animatrix
bleach. i only watched up til mexicanhell arc before i realised it was pretty much the same over and over.
gud waifus though
I like pretentious arthouse now but I didn't love Lain much
the atmosphere and direction was great, but it was just too incoherent for me, felt like the director was just doing random cryptic imagery for its own sake
HunterCHADxHunterCHAD :)))
My friends on reddit said it's pretty good and I definitely agree. Since then I watched 50 animes and it's still the best one.
>There were no subs
How did you watch it then?
We had Miyazaki films during post exam periods.
He just put the movie in, and we watched it raw. It's a simple enough story that you can figure out the general story without understanding the dialogue.
My dad rented this from blockbuster when I was 6 or 7 years old... Surprisingly he let me watch the whole thing with him.
That sounds retarded as fuck 2bh.
Ghost in the Shell SAC
Dotto! Koni-chan
this

Ben 10
Higurashi
The one where worst girl won in the manga.
Same here, alongside a slew of other series at least a good decade old from when they first aired in Japan. Fond memories of getting bored out of my little mind at things like Attacker You! after the occasional mech show finished airing in the early morning.
>Yea Forums
>hanging out with people
>watched 50 animes...
Ignoring Pokemon and stuff played on Cartoon Network, my first anime was Claymore.
YAAAAAAAH REDDITCHADS RISE UP
Sailor moon
It was a joke about WhisperXWhisperfags user, did you not get it from the reddit point.
Moomin and Alfred J. Kwak
Yep, everything until then was pretty good. I wish they did more with Kido, the magic system was fun but underutilized.
Based. Amazing shows.
That reminds me, I watched the The Animatrix when I was like 8.
And did you?
>Moomin
>Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
>Pokemon
First anime I saw knowing it was anime was FMA (2003).
Some Meisaku stuff and Pierrot majokko when I was little. I still maintain meisaku genre as one of the pinnacles of human civilization.
Mazinger? Captain Tsubasa? Or you know... Thundercats if that counts (the original was produced, voiced and whatnot by Americans but the animation was done in japan)
Pokemon was the first one I saw.
Inuyasha was the first one I saw that made me realize anime was something different than the other cartoons I'd see on TV.
Zero no Tsukaima was my first non-dubbed-for-TV shounen/kids show.
dragon ball and pokemon.
can´t remember which came first
First anime I voluntarily watched on the internet is Rozen Maiden cause of desu
oreimo in 2014
That 80s Peter Pan anime counts, right?
abolutely, this and Astro Boy were my firsts. But Laputa was the first thing that awakened me.
it was this 80s anime that had really trippy graphics and spaceships and shit. I was like... two.
Samurai pizza cats, the dub when it aired in the US, I must've been like 4 or 5.
Tenchi Muyo Ryoohki was my first real anime though.
I can't really remember exacly but it was between heidi, sakura and dragon ball in open tv
but was with desu notto when I began to see anime as a regular basis
>second book never fucking ever
still mad when I knew about heidi was an adaptation
I'm autistically keeping track
your only Yea Forums certified™ anime is the Haruhi one
Can't remember which one I started first, but it was either Space Dandy or SAO
either doraemon or naruto which was playing on TV
Ranma 1/2
Either Chobits or Get Backers
Elfen Lied
pokemon or yugioh
Pokemon.
nvm, didn't know that heidi is an anime. shit, brings me back. haven't watched it in years
Elfen Lied
Saw Dragonball: Curse of the Blood Rubies on TV one day when I was sick soo many years ago. I didn't know what it was and thought it was a fever dream or something until I saw it again 15 years later.
>50 animes
I hope for you that you meant this year
Zatch bell
Fuck, I watched some of that back on Toonami and forgot it existed.
Is it worth going back and watching?
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
I don't remember shit, i know the little fuck was electric and there was one dude that wanted to murder him with fucking ice.
One Punch Man Season 2
Are you me?
Dragon Ball, Saint Seya and Pokémon
I don't remember exactly but I think it was either Hamtaro, Pokemon, or Sailor Moon.
The first anime that I watched where I knew that it was an anime was Lucky Star.
This was my first as well - or at least the first one I recognized as being distinct from regular cartoons.
Are you my friend?
Rozen maiden
Pokemon Indigo League vhs tapes as a child.
The Tenchi Muyo! In Love movie on the Sci-fi channel while I was randomly channel surfing
Shaman King or Ultimate Muscle
I think it was around Konosuba when I started watching actual anime
Speed Racer Back then CN called it Japanimation , and we only watched it because there was no other cartoons on at 1am god damnit, and we liked it! boomer.jpeg
Future Diary, watched it way back in middle school and I was in awe, yep good times
Dbz Kai spanish dub. I was a 1st grader and that shit was awesome
Either bubblegum crash or robotech, can't remember which one I watched first as a kid
Grendizer, newfags get out
Sailor Moon and Robotech. Sailor Moon would come on in the early morning on UPN and Robotech they showed on Toonami when Moltar from Space Ghost was the host. I miss those days...
Where my Maid Sama bros at?
It had me questioning life at 9 years old. Was like watching a car crash.
speed racer
The Fist of the North Star, when I was about 6 or 7. The '86 movie where Kenshiro loses to Raoh at the end. It was the raddest, bloodiest thing I'd ever seen. And possibly the first story I'd ever been exposed to where the hero doesn't triumph at the end, but things still work out.
I watched half of Infinite Stratos, which was alright. But I’ve always been obsessed with fighter jets, and I found an old OVA...
So the first anime I finished was Area 88. After that, I watched Sentou Yousei Yukikaze, claimed the titular character as my waifu, and never looked back.
My waifu is still better than yours.
Battle of the Planets when I was about 4 though I don't remember anything about it and haven't watched it since.
used to wake up at like 6am to watch medabots on Jetix

I'll never forget summer of 2010, still young, watching it in my sweaty, hot room. thinking it was the best thing ever
My very first cervix-breaking anime? Way back when?
It was Macross, rebranded as Robotech on weekly UHF television.
The first proper still-subbed anime I saw was Uresei Yatsura on traded VHS tapes.
Yes, I am so old I wish I were dead.
We still exist.
>Uresei Yatsura
You had one job.
Tenchi Muyo

One hell of a first.
I unironically don't remember
Doraemon maybe
NARDO
>8 years old

Vampire Hunter D
The Lens man
watched them on the Sci Fi channel ages ago. I got hooked instantly after watching them.
Random shit on toonami. Can't confirm what the first one was but the earliest one I distinctly remember seeing in some way was FLCL.
>WTF IS THIS?

I get into the Anime early 2008: Lain, Texhnolyze, Ghost In the Shell, NHK ni Youkoso!, Genshiken, EVA in early 2005 I saw AMVs and I see the 1st episode in TV and 2009 I finish Eva for Fist Time.
Soul Eater
eva and everything after wasnt as good. now im a weeb and watch/read all content raw.
Low-key the odd episode or two of Naruto by accident growing up, but Elfen Lied was the first full show I think. No idea why.
>Speed Racer and 70s Cartoons Shows
>They look same shit formula.
>I don't see Difference.
When I had 9 years old I always found Speed Racer & Astro Boy, Boring and bad shows Like Scooby-Doo
ultraman or ikkyu-san is the furthest back i can remember.
Pokemon
DBZ. Watched it when I was young enough to think it was American like everything else on CN
First anime: Speed Racer, Battle Of The Planets & Star Blazers.
First toku: Space Giants, Ultraman & Spectreman.
Fandoms that made me leave anime: Naruto, Inuyasha & Hetalia.
Anime that brought me back: Rinne No LaGrange.
Old as fuck and currently enjoying Bocchi & Senko-san.
I think it was Angel Beats if you count the first anime I sought out, before that it'd be Pokémon.
over here we had an entire assortiment of anime tailored for european audiences
heidi
wiki the viking
sindbad the sailor
nils holgersson too i think
Not proud of it but....Inuyasha, back when it showed on Adult Swim frequently way back.
Five years old: Dragon Ball
8 years old: Sakura CardCaptors
Teen years: Death Note, Naruto, Steins;Gate
Collegue years (Manga): Hunter x Hunter, Bakuman, Berserk
Damn you are old if the Inuyasha fandom made you leave. Don't blame you though, I got roped into this through my fujo sister so I started off with Ruroken, Ranma 1/2, and Inuyash all the old yaoi fodder. I was too young to understand how awful and cringy she was at the time, I distinctly remember her having a deviantart account with d00m and t3h in the name, But to this day if I mention anime to her she looks like she's having fucking NAM flashbacks.
Narudo, next were one piss and bleach. I was 14.
medabot but i didn't know what the fuck was anime back then desu
I lol'd. Guys like you were alright cats, but damn son, them fujos. I'm over it now, but at least your sis grew out of it. Just leave the animus to expert weirdos like us. What are you watching this season?
TECHNICALLY Pokemon/Digimon/Card Captor Sakura since I saw all them as a kid. Some of my earliest memories are me watching Pokemon with my siblings.
Inuyasha was the first anime I watched that I knew was an anime, if that makes sense.
Eromanga Sensei
Re:Zero
Thundercats
I WANT TO BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS. TO CATCH THEM IS MY REAL TEST. TO TRAIN THEM IS MY CAUSE.
Tomato man, doraemon and dash yonkuro.
None because I never watched a show I didn’t drop
I remember catching the tail end of a horror sci-fi film on the SCiFi cable channel circa 1996-97 which was basically the 'Thing' on a ship. What's crazy is that I still remember a scene that was pretty much etched in my brain as a guy's face melted off his head.
20 years later I do a search and find that the name of the OVA is Lily Cat (western release anyway)
My first one was Bakugan when I got into elementary school. But the first anime that I watched intentionally without thinking it was a cartoon was Citrus. It got me interested into anime. (it was random summer day and in my recommendations was a video "Citrus from pornography to perfection" and I had to watch the video and that s how I became a weeb.)
Does Totoro count?
Technically this, but the first anime I really watched was Bleach
Kiki or some other Ghibli movie when I was a kid. What actually got me into anime was Samurai Champloo.
Conan the boy in future, idk why I watched it daily when it aired but I enjoyed it
Thank for asking
Heidi? Wickie und die starken Männer?
Pokémon?
I don't remember.
Moomin and Digimon
1st: Pokemon
2nd: Dokuro-chan
Battle of the Planets.
Interestingly niche choice, user. How did you stumble onto that?
English-dubbed shows on Toonami. When I was really young they had yuyu hakusho, some Gundam show, and Dragon Ball Z. But bacl then everybody watched anime because it was what was on TV. The first anime I watched as a weeb was Naruto subbed.
The absolute first that I remember would be back to back Hamtaro and Sailor Moon every day before school in like grade 1. The first series that I actively seeked out on my own accord was Lucky Star
They used to air this shit without any subtitles. Still watched the fuck out of it. Still remember the op
>saw a few funny clips on youtube back in 2008
>its quite funny and the green lady gives me the stiffy uh
>downloaded it on own accord and kept watching anime since
Inuyasha
Based.
Nardo french dub.
the best one
Plastic memories
As a kid watched bleach jp version...with no subtitiles all the way to aizens defeat..
consider it my fav pepega
I’m pretty sure I watched Astral Boy around the time I was in my early twenties. Ever since I’ve been fascinated by the anime genre although I fell off watching for a long time. It’s changed a lot over the years but to this day this series holds a special place in my heart. My favorite anime however would probably be Bebop. It really blew my mind seeing something like that for the first time and got me back into anime as a whole.
Not including butchered nonsense like Speed Racer, Heidi or Nauusica, it’d be Transformers. Deal with it.
Or for the late night anime you’re thinking of, Project A-ko and it’s been downhill since then.
Not counting the stuffs that aired, like Dragon Ball and YuGiOh. It's Guilty Crown.
Urotsukidoji in 94
Yu-Gi-Oh
