It's hitting Japanese theaters next year, which means it won't be hitting blu ray in Japan until 2021, and then after all the licensing and localizing and whatnot, it will be another year or two after that before it gets official distribution (I assume by Funimation).

NGE was a fukken mess. The twist of the "mechas" was interesting but doesn't go anywhere interesting, the character development was fukken weak, and there's no reason why it should be considered an innovative, watershed anime when it came out in friggen 1995. Gundam was burning through its 10th fukken iteration by that point. The whole fukken Kamen Rider series for the Showa Era started and ended 6 whole years before Evangelion came out. It's baffling that anyone could consider it a series of "firsts."

But of course, for NGE to get that reputation to begin with, people watching it had to be retarded in the first place, so they'll probably be retarded again and encourage a revival.

My point is that it failed on multiple levels, and that the Evangelions themselves are not something to fall back on. I'd argree on the character archetypes being something that would be interesting to watch, but for such a character-driven anime, it failed to properly develop most of them and couldn't rightfully tie things up even with two shots at an ending.
