Tbh, both Luffy and Gon are good protagonists with their own personal objectives and flaws. But both are relatively old characters that descend from the Goku archetype of the good-natured, gentle anti-hero.

The issue is with the offshoots of the Naruto archetype that come off mostly as audience surrogates and powet fantasies, as well as the typical LN and harem faggot self-insert.
