I'm agnostic and I've always found the argument of the loss of theism as a catalyst for social break down really fascinating. If you look at historical examples of atheist states like Albania, USSR, GDR, Cambodia and even France during the revolution; you can see a clear trend of societal degradation followed by collapse soon after. Personally, I don't think this was caused by atheism, but rather trying to replace theism with nationalism.

I think religion is valuable as a guide to ethics and morals, but at the same time I don't believe in divinity or that those ethics and morals were created by none other then ancient men and women. I believe the greatest issue with atheism is trying to remove ancient culture completely and trying to reinvent the wheel ethically and morally, which is no easy task.

Rather then atheism, I think the issue in the webm was hedonism and social direction that caused the downfall of society. This is mirrored in many historical examples including ancient Greece, ancient Rome, France before the revolution, Russia before the revolution and China before the revolution.

Hedonism only takes over in societies that abandon religion. I am not religious myself, but it is folly to deny that historical fact. I personally theorize that most people need an outward guide post to keep their animalistic instincts in check, without which they lose all sense of purpose and higher self.

Religion is the only tool ever to successfully ward off hedonism. Atheism is innately hedonistic as it attacks society's moral fiber without bringing forward an alternative. Without god, why is marriage sacred? Why should you have kids, care for your neighbor, or be charitable? Atheism leads to societal collapse 100% of the time.

I find it funny how the degradation in that webm took part after right-wing groups became more popular. The author's political biases were seeping through, methinks.

Religion didn't invent those things, you idiot. They're just frameworks of values people already had held together by stories and history. They change constantly as people adopt new values because they're the result of people wanting to impose those values on society, not the source of their existence.
