Massively overrated. If we get some western sci-fi adapted I want it to be Trek, or Dune. Preferably Dune because the universe is so damn interesting.
And book 3 (Children of Dune, I think) has a loli and shota as more or less main characters. They almost take the incest route but Leto II covers his body with sandtrout, gains legit superpowers, then plays like a boss so hard at politics that he becomes God-Emperor for like 3500 years. It's basically already an anime, but the only anime that feels remotely close to it is Desert Punk for the setting, or Legend of the Gayass Homos for the political and military machinations.
Now THAT deserves to be an anime way more than a retelling of a classical hero's journey, but set in space.
