Cynicism (AKA Bad Imagination), while for the most part being in favor of the heroines, has not been completely one-sided. It's not like they were ever really trying to compete for speed in the first place. user is literally six times faster, and that's with one person instead of OT's like three or four. You're not going to be able to make up that kind of a difference without doing something seriously differently.

I'd watch it if it was good. Precure is super lacking in any of that sort of content, videos, podcasts, etc.
As for what I'd want to see, not your face. Ever. I can't stand people talking at a webcam, webcams are a blight on all of youtube and especially anime-youtube. Use relevant footage from the show you're talking about to support whatever you're saying. You don't need to actually refer to it, like "as you can see, xyz", just talk about xyz and show xyz and trust your audience aren't idiots. And that works no matter what your video is about, from a thematic analysis to a review of the show's fashion choices and anything in between.

I don't do face cam, although my voice is a bit nasally and grating. Thanks for the advice. Not really sure if there should be an overall themes to the videos, or just going through each one talking about the good and bad about each.

Newfag here, I want to get into Precure and I have my eyes set on either Smile or DokiDoki because I like the girls design, which one should I start with? Actually, are they even recommended entries for a first timer?

Go with Smile for high quality episodic shenanigans but don't expect any plot.

Smile is actually a great entry into the series, it's a fan favorite, other recommended ones are heartcatch, princess and the newest one (Stwinkle)

Smile is a great starting point, as long as you don't mind starting with what is probably the most episodic season of precure. Very little going on storywise, but it's great fun on an episode by episode basis.

Doki is a special kind of creature, and it'd be hard to recommend it as a starting point.

Smile, definitely go for Smile then Doki, great order to watch that way.

Our standard recommendation is to pick the ones who you like the look of best, so you're already headed in the right direction.
Smile and Dokidoki are both great series, you can start with either one and you'll be happy with it. Smile is all comedy hijinks and cuteness, while Dokidoki is more focused on character-building and plot. Precure tends to flipflop between those each year.
The most common one people start with is Heartcatch, but again that's mainly because of how it looks, not because it's uniquely suited for beginners. Other than that, we always recommend the currently-airing one, because it's fun to follow along every week. This year's show, Star Twinkle, happens to be top-tier too.
The only one you shouldn't start with is Max Heart, because it's a sequel (and because it's bad). GoGo is also a technically sequel, but it basically obsoletes its predecessor, so starting there is actually fine.

A lot of times Heartcatch is recommended as a good one to start with. Out of the ones you chose Smile is more of a fun ride and Doki has more of a plot.

Smile and Doki are the extreme opposites of each other, one could say, Smile is pretty low on plot and focuses more on comedy and fun episode concepts, Doki is one of the most plot-heavy Precure seasons.

I think starting with Smile can be a good pick, just don't expect a overarching plot from it and you will enjoy it.

Yes, really. How fast people forget how everyone complained about the clock reset and how the second half repeated ideas from the first half. The ending was also disappointing with Joker amounting to him merging with Pierrot, and the retread of DX3's ending where everyone was sad about the fairies leaving.

If people like it now they either didn't watch it as it was airing since waiting a week for lame episodes makes it worse or they have nostalgia goggles about it.

Star Twinkle Precure is encouraging young viewers to to act on a more individualistic level, contrary to the collectivist nature of Japanese culture. This can be seen in the latest episode where Hikaru was seen enjoying a manga despite being ridiculed, with her mother comforting her by saying "different people like different things", emphasizing Hikaru as a separate being from collective society. Another primary example is when Lala became a precure, stating the chances of her becoming one were separate and distinct from Hikaru's. It was "her miracle", a personal event, and again acting in severance from Hikaru's transformation. Elena and Madoka also have instances of individuality in their characterization. Their collective attack conveys this theme too, which serves to connect individuality with imagination, the show's arguably primary theme.

If I'm not mistaken, Precure has always been digitally animated. The first five seasons have a weirdly 90s look to them, but you still have to remember the franchise started in 2004. I'm pretty sure Toei had gone all-digital by 2000 or so.

So we are agree that the Earth episodes have been boring. The majority of the episodes so far have been Earth episodes and have been nothing, but boring characterization. The space episodes should have been dominating, but they are still not, if ever.
Even the space episodes, there hasn't been a single good plant. Lol furries, lol poo monster. I don't know in which threads you have been, but people here seems to mostly think the planet concepts have been all crap so far and they indeed have been. According to the show the coolest thing so far as been the "lol Space Vegas" planet, but we don't get any interesting info even about it. We have been just stuck in the auction house or the stupid as fuck mansion chase.
All the characters are just boring. Hikaru and Lala especially started as annoying brats, which will be hard to forget. Any of them are just their stereotype and that is. They learn the same lessons episode after episode. Any chance of Blue Cat to actually be cool was killed with the mansion chase episode with Hikaru's "understanding" and the Blue Cat's blushes. The writing is just horrible.
The villains are also terrible. Their concept's weren't the worst, but they barely find their place in the show. Their appearances are extremely out of place, ruining the pacing of whatever else was going on, say a few completely meaningless phrases, barely related to anything that are forgettable 10 seconds later and fuck off. There just a worse version of Hugtto's enemies pretty much, not that they were breathtakingly good, but they all had something important to them and some actual progression and I don't mean just becoming good.

Somewhat, sure. But fully? Probably mostly not. Theme, big events, important characters. And then they fill up the details in-between.

Series are planned from the start in a general form, with at least outlines of every episode, but I imagine scripts aren't finalized until they need to be. They only animate and record VA a few episodes in advance, after all, it'd be silly not to leave themselves at least a bit of wiggle room on the stuff that's multiple months away.

Exactly like that. The broad strokes of the plot couldn't change, but the tone could, because dialogue and small details are still easy to change late in the process.

It's why for long-running, 48+ episode anime like Precure, there is usually a separate role between "Story Organizers" and "Scriptwriters".
