Every review I read before starting this series called it disturbing. Some reviewers wished to never had started this series at all. Are they full of shit, or am I completely desensitized? How did you anons feel reading Shamo?
I find myself in love with the artstyle and action, but desu I'm not really interested in the plot. Is it supposed to just be fightporn?

Its just normie pandering for clicks.

It just has a villain as a protagonist and people aren't used to that. I looked forward to seeing some sort of redemption or validation for his actions, but it never came. In that aspect, it was sort of a let down. The final tournament thing felt rushed as well and I didn't have hope for the ending.

Overall it was OK/10 bretty gud :-DDDD

I'm feeling that as well. The only thing that really interests me are the fight scenes. Do you got any recs?

>wished to never had started this series at all
To be fair, it gets pretty boring and repetitive as it goes on, I can understand why people would feel like they wasted their time on it

Baki maybe, but the fights are unrealistic as fuck

Kino fights, that is all. Worth a read for that alone.

Is this any good after the MMA arc? Everything with the monkey guy was complete trash.

Whatever you do, don't read Holyland. Got recommended to me as a great fighting manga... it's not.
Tough
Kento Ankokuden Cestus
Kengan Asura
Golosseum
Mongrel
All-Rounder Meguru
Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru
Are all decent.

Shigurui if you don't mind it being about samurai, it basically is a fight manga

Thank you, I added all of them to my library.

It's just increasingly gory fightporn desu. I love the art style so much but it was never about the plot for me.

The point of Ryo Narushima is that he brings misery to everyone around him while accomplishing absolutely nothing.
Of course redemption never came. What's more, after the last fight, be careful of heavy spoilers for the end of the manga here, you can just imagine the cleaners guy going back for the waifu, possibily harming or killing his sister and friend, all because he decided to eat ants innawoods instead of waiting for the ambulance he himself called

And where's your Baki the Grappler recommendation? Uh?
Holyland suffers from the author writing essays about his knowledge of fighting instead of drawing the actual fucking manga

It's just fight porn, what else did you expect, it's a fucking martial arts manga. They even have some random china arc where he learns chi and then the authors decided that that was fucking retarded and retconned it (MC legit said he forgot his fighting skills because he hasn't been practicing lmao), which ultimately was for the better I guess.

I have no idea what's supposed to be disturbing about it other than that Ryo is basically irredeemable. Well I guess the fact that he's a prostitute for old grannies is kinda disturbing.

As a fighting manga I thought i was pretty decent, I kinda liked the recurring theme of how it doesn't matter how strong you are, you can just get "memed" by sucker punches, knives in the back and die in the streets like a dog. And in fact that is how the MC dies at the end.

I can only see it shocking someone if it's literally the first manga they read.
It's definitely worth reading once, but that's about it. It has its moments and the art is cool, but it takes a nosedive after a certain point, apparently it's because the author left and only the artist remained, and it shows.

Coming from a Bakifag, Baki is just not for everyone. Once the original manga gets fully scanlated I'll more readily recommend it to people though.

Its not, just a bunch of normies

While I do appreciate Baki for the unique and inspirational manga it is, I do understand it's a very acquired taste.
Incomplete original series scanlations and subpar Wild Fang work prevents me from recommending it to most.

What the fuck was China arc trying to accomplish?

Shamo is crap after the first arc
We start with a guy who killed his parents because he was bored with his life and became a rapist after getting out of the reformatory and all that side of his personality gets "forgotten" on the next arcs becoming simply and edgy guy who loves violence.

I didnt even bothered finishing the last arc were a ballet dance with Jesus complex tried to reform him or some shit

>a guy who killed his parents because he was bored with his life
Not really, he just snapped one day. Iirc, his reasons were never exactly specified, but he lashed out against his oppressive parents.

Holyland is the shit. But people might only want to stick around for the fighting while the manga is heavily invested in exploring WHY mc jap-boy wants to fight (It’s got a lot to do with mental illness)

Me gu ru is good
Rikudou is also good. Also mentally ill but the fights come one after the other and he freaks out while he fights, and when a girl touches him and so on

It has some nice choreography and art. A lawsuit over ownership happened between the writer and the artist, so that's why weird things like the chinese chi shit happens and is never referenced again. It's also why the manga ends up feeling rushed, and gives a weak ending as now only one voice of the 2 is giving creative input on the storyline. Wish it wouldn't of ended where it did :/

Just watch it for yourself
