Don't remember anyone not aware of LN spoilers predicting what Ougi was. Probably more hindsight bias like how everyone now pretends Nadeko being that fucked in the head was something Araragi and the audience should've noticed and corrected himself immediately despite no one ever mentioning it when we saw her through his eyes earlier on (Nadeko being boring and having nothing to her was the most commonly said thing about her before Second Season even)

It's from Gaen's big dumb exposition dump in Ougi Dark. Ougi's basically a combination of the energy Shinobu consumed from Rainy Devil + Seishiro, manifested using Araragi's desires and thoughts as a base. I'm being a bit reductive because I'm lazy but that's the gist of it.
Ougi Formula/Sodachi Riddle/Sodachi Lost was my personal favorite part of the series and I wish more of it was like that.
As far as fanservice is concerned, I was pretty disappointed that Shaft didn't use this design for Ougi Dark's finale.

I didn't find it boring, but I spit the 6 episodes over 3 evenings so that might have altered my perception a bit. I know it was technically an epilogue, but I thought it worked just as well (if not better) as a finale than Owari 2. As this user says, the thematic closure was stronger in Zoku than Owari 2.

Ougi doesn’t have part of the Rainy devil in her to any greater degree than any of the other aberrations that Seishiro had absorbed.
Gaen’s explanation is that Ougi is like rainy devil in the sense that RD was a pseudo-darkness created by Kanbaru’s mom when she was a teen. Tooe was always strict with herself and so she subconsciously created an aberration that would force her from deviating from her standards, ie. making her “lose” stuff she had for entertainment or vanity because she didn’t really need them and could be spending that time studying instead.

The origin of the Rainy Devil was elaborated on in the Zoku anime, but it was still left vague for some reason.

Yeah i get you, the climax happened in ss and owari 1, closed in owari 2 and zoku is an epilogue. After this there's the whole next part of the story with new beginnings, you can't maintain the same level of speed through out without getting overwhelming. Monogatari has a bit of everything without overdoing it.

While the frequency of these have certainly declined as the series progressed past the Second Season, I never viewed the fights as a core element of the series. They used to be a nice bonus feature at the end of each arc, but I personally never viewed them as crucial as the character drama/banter and oddity lore.

There was a decent amount of Snail banter, but the overall lack of small talk was definitely noticeable in Zoku. It was far more narrative-driven and contained even more Araragi introspection than usual. This may have been an intentional reflection of Araragi's character growth however.

Even though i enjoyed Zoku, I do agree with this analogy. Even Yea Forums's reaction to Zoku was quite muted compared to most Monogatari adaptions. I'm really not sure what the future of the franchise is.

After Ougi Dark capped of the actual events of the climax, Zoku is the falling action given for Araragi, Ougi, and the viewer to process the outcome, with some neat insights on other characters included in the forms of their mirror versions.
