Before modern dentistry people's teeth would fall out over time and back then you could ascertain a person's age based off of how many teeth they had left. You could also tell how a person was treated based off of their teeth, if teeth where chipped or missing unnaturally then you could tell there was abuse. Basically good teeth = good investment. A slave could also get a better job based off of their health too. If you were healthy then you could command a higher price and would be around longer, if you were old well not so much.
