I actually think I caught a clip for it on a commercial once for Animonday.

Immediately after this scene the girl attempts to cause a miscarriage by slamming her body gainst a boulder.

Ending of the series was total bullshit though.

They could have at least given us some closure on her parents. The whole shows ending really does lack it. If theres a show that might actually benefit from a Sequel/reboot/remake. IT's probably this one. Though I don't expect that to be the case ever given this was made in 2000. But it would be a good way to take Isekai anime back to it's roots.

A modern version of this would be absolute shit, and have 100% more CGI.

I remember it made me feel sad but I didn't feel any of the crushing despair you people report. Maybe I should rewatch it since I had seen very few anime at the time.

It's more the sense of atmosphere and the concept of it taking place on our world billions of years into the future, with a human race that literally has to rape people to keep themselves from dying out. That's what sticks with my brain. Because that very real fear that some day in the future we may actually resort to that.

That scares me. It's basically a Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror story in that regard. Human life pretty much has no meaning in the post apocalypse. That we only exist to be born, breed, and die. Thats what really makes this show terrify me

Disagree. I watched it when I was at a very low point and it pulled me out because I was able to reflect on my problems not being too bad in the grand scheme of things. As bad as I had it at least I wasn't a child war slave.

This series always felt disturbingly real to me. I could never get the thought out of my head that all this shit is also happening on our planet right now all the time.

Luckily there is a kind and optimistic Japanese boy that never loose hope and always believe that thing are going to get better there to support her.

The ending was garbage, it started off pretty interesting but had nothing to say just a load of fucked up edgy realism then a shounen ending.

What's really interesting is that Shu doesn't really have any effect on the plot. The same things would have happened with or without his efforts. In his place, I could have spent the entire time cowering or running away, and there would have been very little difference to the result.

It's still better than most isekai anime

I feel like this is an anime that would get a lot of heat if it were made to day, since it had a rather pro-life message, even in the case of rape. The ANN crowd would probably throw a major shitfit.

Im trying to remember an anime similar to this, that I watched as a child. There was no time travel shenanigans but it was set in a desert and about a lack of water. The first episode ended with a train.

It's not just that it's old and shit, it's not fun at all to watch unless I guess you somehow enjoy misery, rape, torture and horrible shit happening (to children mostly). It's certainly not what I'm after when I go to try and be entertained and I'm pretty sure most people feel that way too.
