Preservation of the universe isn’t as insignificant as you make it seem. Obviously something was eventually was going to go wrong in the span of infinity but they could have or have for all we know have already extended the life of the universe one to billions of times over giving humans aliens and other creatures a chance to experience life and enjoy its beauty. That was the only system they knew and how to accomplish their goal. They’re basically the immune system of the universe so if you don’t like the incubators you might as well give yourself aids and kill your immune system. Time obviously doesn’t matter to you if it eventually comes to an end anyways.

Except Kyubey demonstrated that he doesn't actually give a shit whether humans (and presumably any other species) survives long enough to enjoy the prolonged life of the universe or not. He just comments that he gathered all the energy he needs, obviously meaning enough for HIM and his kind, not for anyone else. Since humanity was about to go extinct. Also your immune system analogy is misleading because his purpose wasn't to keep the universe healthy, it was to extend its lifetime far beyond what is natural. What he was doing was equivalent to a person farming the suffering of others in order to make themself immortal, knowing that those others would never benefit from their sacrifice in any way and would be better off if they were never used in the first place. All things end eventually and Kyubey had no right to harm others in the pursuit of changing that for his own benefit.
