Just re--read this Masterpiece and I confidently can say that Hisoka vs Chrollo is literally the greatest fight of any manga this decade. The perfect blend of philosophy, deep tactics, and masterful visual composition.

Murata's excessive use of digital effects etc. is barely something you can call "art". He completely lacks the sense of aesthetics and obviously doesn't know how to do proper panelling. That's why he is an artist for hire and not a real creator.

Not manga or anime, and hardly a fight. Iiirc the priest just punches ginger boy until he arbitrarily dies at the convenient time.

Flat layouts, bland choreography, poor sense of motion, shit lineart, childish writing. Why are you clogging the thread with this garbage?

The ending was really depressing to me. Seeing all Yu's friends going on to bigger and better things while he stays as some delinquent street thug made me more miserable than I think it was meant to

Your post is nothing but an outburst of emotions and seething resulted from your dogshit pages getting called out. Now, let me dissect the composition of this fight to demonstrate why it's the finest work this decade.

Once the base mechanics of the fight are set up and Chrollo’s pulled off a few tricks, the mechanical complexity of this fight gives way to a gorgeous clarity of conflict and scale. By combining his mind control powers, shape-shifting powers, and doubling powers, Chrollo is able to conceal himself within the Heaven’s Arena crowd, while simultaneously creating an army of clones ready to obey his commands. By further employing the devastating effects of Sun and Moon, Chrollo turns this army into a standing force of suicide bombers, all standing by to explode as close to Hisoka as possible. The second half of their fight is essentially Hisoka versus an entire stadium of suicide bombers, a conflict of insane scale brought to life with some truly jaw-dropping visual setpieces.

The second half of that battle also allows Togashi’s visual talents to shine. Togashi’s strengths as an artist are idiosyncratic. The man has a very strong grasp of anatomy and bodily motion. An early shot of a severed head being weighed against a bowling ball underlines Togashi’s sense of mythic whimsy, while the minimalist evocation of an angry outburst reduced to splashes of ink demonstrates his strong eye for visual drama. Mindbogglingly complex tactics dominate the page, while Hisoka’s design shifts dramatically depending on the goals of a panel. And yet, in spite of all this visual eccentricity, there are still plenty of panels demonstrating Togashi’s grasp of the fundamentals. The clear impact of Chrollo landing his first clean hit. The dynamism of Hisoka making a desperate bungee gum escape. The beauty of a page framed as one continuous cycle, a trick he pulls off both through dramatic shading and through the natural curvature of the arena.

Mizukami is not the best when it comes to fighting choreography but all the fights in Sengoku Youko were meaningful and led to some sort of character development.

Kengan Asura, probably the best fighting manga as far as actual fighting goes. (Teppu has better characters). I would post an actual panel but there are just too many great ones.

Kenyan asura has a lot off great fights. But any time sekiyabashi Jun is throwing down its genuinely exciting to read. A pro wrestler character in a non kinnikuman Manga who is not only a joke, but commands attention and gets the reader hype. And he has some of the best flashbacks too serving to show how he went from some ruffian to the a man truly indebted to pro wrestling. I love this guy.

>came here to post this
fuck. Sunao versus that carpenter tool guy was also great. So was Kazuya vs Madarai.

I love HxH but thus lame trolling any time Murata is in the OP is getting boring.

Gamaran has cool fights. Shigurui too but fights in it end too fast. Anyone know other mangas with nice action and art (preferably no highschool shit)

>Murata's excessive use of digital effects etc. is barely something you can call "art". He completely lacks the sense of aesthetics and obviously doesn't know how to do proper panelling. That's why he is an artist for hire and not a real creator.

Define "real art". Oh, and tell us how using digital tools to create art is not "real art". Go ahead, I'll wait.

Btw not even a Murata fanboy. But when I see a uneducated fool talking way out of their depth, I am compelled to call them out as to what they are - full of shit.

Attached: 6.jpg (870x1305, 348K)

The user who said his art is "soulless" tho it is a meme answer, isnt far from the truth. The man is certainly skillful, particularly at reproducing anatomy. He's incredibly technically proficient, but Togashi's art has a special, profoundly human, naturalistic quality to it, that is not easily replicated nor imitated. This is an expressive panel with mounts of emotion behind it, contrast it with something like Murata's render of the monster king who looks impressive technically but completely soulless on the emotional level.

Take a look at the panels where he's trying to convey extreme emotion in one of his characters. His art becomes extremely fluid, expressive, even volatile. Murata is a great artist in his own right but I haven't seen him work the medium the same way Togashi has.

I would chalk it largely up to breadth of career and artistic experience however. Togashi has been in the game for decades. Give Murata another twenty years and I bet he is going to be doing some amazing stuff.

Attached: 1468116708047.jpg (1066x1600, 468K)

The entire fight against Freeza is a classic.

Attached: Freeza.png (1024x1536, 700K)

Togashi would be good if he didn't settle for putting out just terrible art. He has good ideas and has shown that he has good technical skills in YuYu and HxH, but much of the time the quality is just insultingly low.

I sometimes wonder... Is it always the same guy stalking different threads just to find a chance to write the same garbage he's been writing for years now? Surely not.

Since you're just mindlessly dumping this shit, I'll interject. Akira Toriyama is only good at making readable fights. You can very easily follow the flow of action and understand the majority of the movement of a fight because he doesn't clutter things up with a lot of details or effects.

However technically speaking his fight choreography is very bland. His settings are always desolate wastelands, and people use attacks that look the same with few notable exceptions like the Special Beam Canon or Kienzan. This led to fights becoming more and more similar to one another and in general Toriyama didn't know how to draw interesting-looking fights.

Being able to use things like shading and contrasts for mood and effect can make stuff stand out far better than just having everyone equally lit. Toriyama doesn't use panels to greater effect, he just knows better than some other artists how to make the flow of action between panels clear. Ultimately Toriyama draws very safe art, it's bland and uninspired. What you posted is just characters flailing in a void of speedlines and blank background or empty wastes.

Attached: MR-2420-421678-20.jpg (728x1103, 244K)

How can you post this with any sincerity? Is there a single fight in HxH with the choreography of The Fang vs Goalong? Is there a single HxH fight with the paneling of Goku vs Freeza?
HxH is good but its not the best in any way when it comes to fights.

>tfw Caracal went from a hilarious foreigner stereotype to basically a fucking animal
God damn I was mad.

Attached: DIE YOBBO.jpg (1125x1607, 488K)

cringe
based

The fallacy that Toriyama is somehow good has already been addressed: In any case, no mangaka alive is on Togashi's level when it comes to clean paneling & composition (R.I.P Tezuka). Let me demonstrate it with this example:

The first page shows Biscuit facing off against Binolt, a bounty hunter and serial killer. The audience to the fight, Gon & Killua, have no idea how powerful Biscuit is, and neither does the reader.
Togashi starts the page with Biscuit lifting Binolt up without effort; Biscuit’s body has almost no speed lines, emphasizing the ease with which she can lift a full grown man. Instead, all of the speed lines are focused in on Binolt’s body as it rises; he’s completely powerless to even move. The second panel emphasizes the same qualities: once again, Biscuit’s body barely moves, while Binolt’s spins at incredible speed. The final panel on the page boils the fight down to its pure essence: Biscuit, almost completely stationary while Binolt is sent exactly where she wants him.

>And then there’s the page turn

Forcing the reader to hold their expectation is one of the oldest tricks in comics, and Togashi knows it’s an evergreen technique. However, he also contrasts this new page with the former. There are speed lines everywhere, more impact lines, heavier crosshatching, and mild exaggeration in the features. The previous page is time boiled down to a few moments, milliseconds even. This page is time speeding up. Biscuit hits Binolt so hard he vomits a frankly improbable amount of blood before he even hits the ground. It’s the next three seconds of the fight boiled down to a single, action-packed panel. The middle-bottom panel is Gon and Killua, barely visible and stunned. And then Biscuit ends the page by clarifying that she wasn’t using her full strength.

In two pages, Togashi’s made a girl in a puffy umbrella skirt cooler than your favorite character, using advanced paneling and composition.

Attached: 1546053060090.jpg (666x2000, 525K)

I remember reading these pages and loving them. But this shitty fucking pasty has damn near made me despise them. Fuck off.

This, and Midora going for a two handed stump punch later on were amazing moments. Toriko in general knew how to pull the reader in when it was time to fight.

Attached: technically.png (630x361, 113K)

That is about as basic as you can get. The art is sketchbook level and the choreography isn't special. Read more battle manga if that is top-tier in any manner. Its honestly barely serviceable if you want my final opinion. This is just the standard 'small character is actually one of the strongest' act that a million and one comics have done before, DBZ did it better.

You also insulted Toriyama for having weak backgrounds and simple choreography while complimenting the exact same things from Togashi - try to be more consistent.

Kengan and Baki have better fights than HxH period. A single fight with Cosmo is far more impressive than anything I've seen from Togashi.

I'm gonna stop spamming here but it was pretty gud.

Any number of blanket statements that simply assert yourself to be right without evidence or backing is not a valid argument. The only sentence in this post that attempts a rebuttal is here
>You also insulted Toriyama for having weak backgrounds and simple choreography while complimenting the exact same things from Togashi
A fallacious case of false equivalence that betrays your poor understanding of the critique against Toriyama. One single page here embarrasses your attempt at making a point.

I will be merciful and accept your concession. Now get some rest after losing this battle, because you need it.

Because they actually try to bring up good arguments and explanations as to why they like specific pages like in this thread, which sparks discussions instead of just having boring image dumps like every other manga thread on Yea Forums. You can hate them for being obnoxious at times, but you can at least have normal debates with them unlike the majority of other shonen fanbases that most commonly consist of underages.

mangadex.org/chapter/471720/1
Read this Chapter, its one of the simpler ones as far as choreography goes. Not a single fight in HxH can match this, and even if you can find one there are better fights in the same manga. If you can prove me wrong try it, but you know you will fail.

I don't need to back-up my reasoning when you supplied the evidence. The 'fight' you supplied isn't as unique nor interesting as you posit. It was done better repeatedly in DB, best shown in Vegeta killing Nappa in this chapter mangadex.org/chapter/121049/1. Seriously, this is one of the most common jokes/ways to hype characters that authors do: see Jiraya in Naruto, or Aizen in Bleach, Spike in Bebop I could keep going on.

You think I'm going to read that barely coherent word-soup? Learn brevity and put down the thesaurus - everyone knows what you are saying so trying to sound smart just makes you sound stupid. Hell, the posted panel isn't even particularly impressive, the shading is poor and the inking is sparse.

I'm not trying to be combative but dealing with you people is just annoying.

triplets.....Escanor delivers again

I wonder who could be behind this post

>Not a single fight in HxH can match this
>that cgi mess
>good
jesus, just stop already. it looks painfully awful

Not him but the linked chapter looks like dogshit, you're trying too hard

Like I said, this is both one of the the lower tier fights aesthetically in Kengan, and its still better than anything put out in HxH. Show me a chapter if HxH that is at least as good.

it's not even about the choreography you retard, the whole chapters just hurts to look at because of the disgusting art

And it's forever regarded as one of, if not the best fights in anime/manga, and probably pop culture in general.

The art is good enough for this thread, especially when you have messes like the one in or .

As you can see I have little respect for Togashi as an illustrator.

Again, you're validating what described. You're either underage or low IQ, either way you should probably lurk a few years before posting again.

good post

I particularly liked these two scenes because of their easy flow. Murata's clean art also lends the action to feel very alive in my opinion.

An example of what I like is also in the first scene. After Phoenix Man absorbs the power of Child Emperor's drones, following their firing, he blows away the smoke to find a faint shadow over himself. Hard to see when he's shrouded in fire, then he's dropped with a giant mech.

In the second one, I particularly liked the after effects of the impact. It makes the page before it feel more meaningful as the blow actually does something. I'm not interested in dumping images all over the place, but the next one has him melt part of the hand before getting boosted down even further. Where the battle then carries on into its third phase. By then, most of the action happens with PM trying to escape, which I didn't think was as flowing. The art was spectacular, though.

You are literally doing the exact same shit that you are accusing me of doing. Give some links to something better than what I posted.

If you want some analysis, I didn't give it because I expect people to be able to do it for themselves, then here you go. The best part of Kengan's art and the part that HxH misses is the weight it gives to the fighters. The use of shading and bold inking gives the characters a place in the world. They feel as strong as they are supposed to be.

Goalong the tan guy is the world's greatest boxer, bar none. The Fang, the guy with the slicked back hair, is the number one fighter in the world at this point. He prides himself at beating people at their own games, if you grapple he will out grapple you, if you box he will out box you, etc.

During this fight you come to like Gaolong, before this he seemed like a dick that didn't have much going for him. He reveals that he wasn't just the world's #1 boxer he was also the world's #1 nak muy. He switched to boxing because Muy Thai doesn't have strong enough punches for Gaolong, he feared that he wouldn't be able to protect his King and Country. He is shown to care about his nation and people, as well as his rivals - he wasn't an asshole, he was just stand-offish

At the same time the Fang comes out losing the 'immortality' that he built up, he never could surpass Gaolong in blows but he did beat him by using his MMA skills and going into a takedown, and then chose not to deliver the final blow. Even at his most desperate The Fang kept his cool. We then see that The Fang takes pride in his ability to exceed people in their own style, he almost breaks down after the fight after being stoic or crazy for the entirety of the tourney. He comes into his own as a character.

Throughout the fight the Characters are both shown to be powerful, this is one of the biggest parts of Fighting Manga like this. Gaolong almost breaks the Fang's limbs with his strikes and the Fang is able to whether a barrage of strikes that would kill a lesser man. The characters feel like they earned their places as some of the greatest in the world. They have weight, their desperation is shown, their fighting brilliance is shown - Gaolong is a master of positioning and forces the fight to go on his terms, while The Fang is shown to be able to put up resistance against the best of the best in a way that no one else could and then win when he realized that he was at his limit.

FIghting Manga like Kengan are built around showing off the characters and their styles, this fight, which is not the best in the manga, was able to do this in a way that HxH never has.

You literally killed the thread with this garbage "analysis" that mostly is comprised of describing generic plot points in a thread about art. Embarrassing.

Those people started that with posts like I just continued their fucking of this thread. Hell, my shallow description was better than any of the drivel that people espoused towards me.
Perhaps you should get better at discussing.

>HxH falseflagging is gaining territory outside of OP threads
The definition of not getting bored of the same "joke" after being told time and time again.

>Murata's excessive use of digital effects etc. is barely something you can call "art". He completely lacks the sense of aesthetics and obviously doesn't know how to do proper panelling. That's why he is an artist for hire and not a real creator.
