What was the point of this filler tournament? We already had a statement of what real heroism is with mumen rider vs sea king, why do the exact same thing right after while executing it worse?

To be fair, fighting monsters isn't in the job description.

It's like if you asked an MMA artist to fight in an actual war.

What was the point of this character?

Point out that, despite the difference in power, there's something inherently good about people who throw themselves into the line of true danger every day?

Like, he could beat almost all the Heroes in the tournament. That's a given. But if he had to do what they do every day, he'd crumble.

Is this never before seen footage of Kevin Nash from the incident that took place in the hot summer of 1992?

This. It also shits on the whole "power > principles" shit he was spewing before. There will always be people stronger, richer, more charismatic, etc. than you and if you lack any substance and stand for no ideals then you'll crumble the moment you encounter a real challenge.

so retreading the Sea King arc except shittier
bravo Murata

The point of a filler is to be a filler while web comic is updated slower than Berserk.

>filler completely ruined opm and made it flop
based one

>filler
Shut the fuck up you moronic brainlet

I think you're kind of missing the point. Sea King is about the human spirit, and the strength of the underdog to fight on.

Here, it's about how a guy - thinking he's hot shit - finds himself in genuine danger, and he can't deal.

Look here you humongous faggot

One-punch man was first and foremost a story about a man who had no struggle in his life which made him very apathetic, desperate to find meaning. He started as a corporate clog which didn't fulfill him in any way, and risked his life yearning to do something that matters. And while training for it, he unfortunately lost what gave him that spark to begin with; struggle.

Saitama is a very obvious allegory to human nature and how how struggle gives meaning to us. Food tastes the best when you make it yourself, sun shines warmest when you feel like you've earned it. In a setting that parodies typical superhero world, this works really well because Saitama is surrounded by people who ironically enough have exactly what he wants, but at the same time are trying to achieve what Saitama has. The entire arc of Boros was about this.

Enter King. While he looks like a mere gag-character at first glance, he plays a pretty important part. In many ways he's the exact opposite of Saitama; way over his head in his struggle, just wanting out of it. ONE wants to show us both sides of the coin. Too much is too much, while too little is too little. He also ironically enough offers Saitama a challenge, in the form of video games. In the world of video games, Saitama is powerless while King breezes through like it's nothing. They're complete opposites of their real world counterparts, and represent each other instead. Yet both of them keep wanting to play, because like I said, they're both opposite extremes and a taste of that other extreme feels refreshing and good. You rarely see Saitama as serious as he is when he plays video games. ONE also wants to show us how if we can't find meaning in real life, we try to find the struggle and hard work elsewhere, which is why so many have turned to video game playing neets in this day and age.

1/2

The series also comments on what heroism is, as it is a play on superheros. This came forth beautifully in the Sea King arc with Mumen Rider reminding everyone that the real hero isn't the one with the most power, but he who acts despite his own weakness. Really if you ever read Mob Psycho, another manga of ONE, you'll quickly start to recognize his values and how he reflects them in his work.

Enter the tournament. This far the manga has been really tight, introducing new characters and obstacles that all give us a new perspective, or have something new to say. But the tournament, sadly, doesn't. It's essentially a re-tread of the Sea King arc, with a prolonged backstory. While most people never think about stories this thoroughly, they do recognize this subconsciously. Stories in general are mere abstract ideas we want to tell, and put it in words for it to come alive. We're good at picking up the ideas behind them, and we feel good when a story reinforces our own ideals. This is why the same story with different characters and in different worlds is being told year after year in movies and books. We just like it. We love seeing our own values come true before us. But if a story keeps repeating itself, it quickly grows boring.

Tournament was the first time we differ from the webcomic. By the time it started, ONE was finishing Mob and needed more time, so he greenlighted another completely new arc for Murata to work on while he was finishing it. Simply put, the manga was reaching the webcomic

And I love the show. I'm a manchild who loves action, I'm a MUH HEROISM faggot who values a lot of the same stuff ONE does. But the tournament arc was, indeed, filler. Garou's story is good and again provides us something new in its conclusion. I find nothing wrong with it. But the tournament is nothing but fluff, it has nothing new to say and was obviously done to play time for ONE. It's the definition of filler.

TL;DR go fuck yourself

>OP the fat beta incel who has never been in a fight in his entrie life makes fun of animated character actually trying to do something

Hmmm...

I felt bad for him, I mean getting beat up is one thing but having his teeth knocked out and his shins split in half was kind of extreme, its not like he was a villain. He even tried to protect people.

This really was shit and he didn't even deserve it. Like not even villains have suffered half of the humiliation he did, and for what? H-He said mean things about heroes.

Literally filler. Murata comes from a martial arts background so he was clearly just chomping at the bit to have a martial arts tournament as a break from all the superhero action and to stall while he and ONE wrote out the plans for the remake of the MA arc, since they've been changing so much from ONE's original.

Otherwise the only purpose this arc filled was to provide a backdrop while the MA was introduced, and to introduce the concept that there are complete randos in this setting as strong as or stronger than the best heroes who are being scouted by the MA as monsters.

Yeah, it really is the very definition of filler, but hey, at least we got some good-looking panels, designs and some comedy here and there. Much better than the manga going on hiatus imo.

I agree with that, I just dislike it when people call fillerfags out. They're right, it is filler, but in typical Yea Forums fashion they work in extreme hyperboles so the series is now ruined in their eyes. If anything that's what the guy who I responded to should criticize. But then again, that's such an integral part of Yea Forums that it's more just a case of learning to read between the BASED and literal shit which everything is either of, according to anons

He was a cooky little shit who deserved his humiliation by the monsters!

Boros destroyed a entire city and he got the battle of his life that was promised to him as a punishment. Saying mean things>Killing thousands of people.

kek what a shit arc

How is saitama even bad at fighting games, shouldn't his speed and reaction speed translate pretty well

Is every track and field runner good at video games?

He probably has to use a lot of mental control over his muscles to keep from crushing controllers.
