The people who complain in these threads about flashbacks are never worth taking seriously since they also complain when things are implied instead of flashed back to. It would be impossible to tell the backgrounds of most of these characters without flashbacks considering half of them are centuries old and very few of them have a shared background since they all are only united by having been drafted into a military organization. Inosuke's mom is dead and he was a baby when she died, we could never find out what happened except through a flashback from the perspective of her killer.

I feel like it's a thing where the series has very good week to week pacing but it's in such a rush to move the story forward that we never get time to see these bits of characterization and they end up having to get filled in via flashback, in what feels like a retcon

In these past chapters, it has occurred to me that witnessing Inosuke without his boar mask, as beautiful as he may be, feels wrong and unsettling.

It may be because he doesn't frequently take it off, but unlike other characters whose face is hidden, Inosuke puts me at unease when he's not wearing his mask. As if that is not how it should be, as if I'm not suppose to see what I'm seeing.

I believe his face is beautiful, he is a very pretty guy, who makes me question my sexual orientation. His eyes are that of a beautiful girl, and so is the structure of his face. Capturing his beauty on paper doesn't come easy, I bet.

His hair are also very comforting, barely reaching shoulder level, they appear soft, like those of a pretty young lady.

It all seems wonderful, as long as its hidden below his boar mask, which appears as if it's purposely there to seal away that beautiful, mysterious gaze of his.

I still recall of a scene in a chapter where Inosuke peeked out of his mask, ever so slightly, to grab something to eat. I couldn't help but freeze myself for a second, and stare at his face, focused on the task of consuming the food that stood before him. That very face, felt as if it was a blessing, which no mere human like myself was allowed to experience.

In recent chapters, there's a lot of mask-less Inosuke, which creates a disturbing sensation which goes down my spine every time I see a panel representing him. Is this right? Should I look away? Should I keep reading as if nothing was happening?

How could I possibly pretend that his face didn't give me a feeling of discomfort. That was simply not possible. Panel after panel, he is there, as precious and graceful as ever, perhaps even more than usual.

To think that one day, in the near future, his face will be animated, makes me feel even more upset. If mere panels in the Manga have this overwhelming effect on me, what of a full-fledged Animation? How could anyone, anyone at all, withstand such a thing?

I have no problem with the demons' entrance to the afterlife featuring their backstories. I think that's a nice little signature for the manga. I've only got a problem when flashbacks that are immediately important to the current events are introduced while those events are occurring.

Depending if it is Shintoism or Buddhism, Hell is temporary depending on the religion.

According to some Buddhist sects, hell is just temporary but it takes a very long, long time to get out of Hell and reincarnate again.

Theme wise, it also makes more sense to have such major wounds permanent to show that humans are fragile, in this series, only demons can easily heal from major wounds.

Kaigaku's backstory was shown in the pillar training arc as well. He was the kid that betrayed Himejima's temple and blew out the wisteria incense.

Literally my only problem with this series is the poorly paced information through flashbacks. Flashbacks relevant to what's happening exactly while that thing is happening give off an impression of the story being made up as it's going along, instead of being foreshadowed properly. So many things, such as the "see-through world", or Kaigaku becoming a demon and an Upper Moon, could have been set up earlier and made for a more satisfying payoff, but instead they are literally only introduced the moment they're needed. It's a shame because everything about this series, characterization, fights, etc, is otherwise great, but I hate this whole "spur of the moment" way of writing that other fast-paced manga series do. Sometimes I'd rather a manga slow down if it can actually set up its elements in a more believable manner.

Rengoku also had to focus on not only beating Akaza but also making sure he didn't kill Inosuke and Tanjirou, which is why he said pillars are the shield of his underlings and the whole backstory with his mother telling him to protect the weak.

Why not have all his children survive? Were the 2 children even aware of their dad's suicide plan? I am struggling to think of any good reason why he let his 2 daughters die with him because the surviving children would have been less sad if at least their 2 older sisters still survived.

I just feels like it insults every dead parent in this story because all these parents sacrificed their lives to let their children continue surviving and living on yet the Hunter Organization Leader just killed his 2 healthy children like that in his suicide attack.

The manga has noted that the Ubuyashiki head has some sort of future sight ability, he would have taken into consideration how Muzan would act. Muzan is also a complete monster, telling the children to run would only cause them to panic before he kills them. They were all prepared to do what needed to be done.

Does Muzan really have any reason to think it would be? Dude is unusual in itself and he knew the dudes family wasn't normal to begin with, not to mention he was confident he had the upper hand to begin with. Whether he told the kids to live or not was inconsequential to what he wanted to do so he probably didn't think much of it.

Also note that at the time, the house only had four people, Ubuyashiki, his wife and his two children.
Only those who needed to be there was actually there. Muzan actually took his focus away from Ubuyashiki for a moment to survey the children and gave more time for the talk to stretch out.

Exactly this. The demon flashbacks as they’re dying are perfectly fine. It’s the unnecessary flashbacks that are a problem. Zenitsu explaining the Breath of Thunder to Tanjirou, for example, or Inosuke’s recent flashbacks about Shinobu. These are things that should’ve been included in the story earlier, not retroactively explained at the last moment.

Continuing on from that, there’s plenty of other things that would’ve greatly benefited from have some foreshadowing earlier as well. As a current example, almost everything involving Douma this arc has come out of left field. Considering that we’ve known about Kanae and Inosuke’s mum’s deaths since the Spider Arc there really should have been some hints and build up towards this. Now it’s all just being told to us at the last moment before Douma’s rushed death, that will probably involve another retroactive explanation of Shinobu and Kanao’s conversation. I think in general Gotouge’s writing is pretty good but this has gotta be one the biggest issues for me.

The thunder breath being explained completely feels like a "Tanjirou needs to pull out a suitably dramatic way to win here, let's make something up" type of moment. That's just kind of how fight storytelling goes. It is annoying though, that the training sequences usually never add up to anything and instead a new technique is invented that could have been part of the training.

Yeah, more female shonen mangaka are always nice. I wish that somehow translated to more solid female characters - it's one of the reasons I appreciate Arakawa, she wrote a lot of really likable and diverse girls and kept a good gender balance with that in mind. But of course I know there's something about girls not selling in shonen. What few females exist in Kimetsu are great, though.

There was like 10 intermediary levels below Pillars and Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke were like 3rd or 4th level from the bottom; what was the point of it? In practice there doesn't seem to be any focus on anything between a beginner and a full fledged Pillar, to the point the three boys are now casually hanging around and fighting alongside the Pillars themselves, gathering achievements that might well just kick them up to Pillars sooner or later.

I like how Oni in this series are basically vampires, there is a obscure manga about Inugami spirits but they behave like Werewolfs and there is even a red riding hood character that is big bad guy, not much different from Dracula Jackson.

If his voice is high-pitched and annoying when he shouts and stuff then I'd definitely hate him. I love him in the manga but a voice really is everything - Bakugo was tolerable in the manga but hearing Okamoto's shouting constantly drove me insane.

It's implied that he hides by blending in with human families for a while, eventually killing them to move on to the next one.

Too bad this chapter confirms Douma's dying here, I would have preferred the hint at Inosuke's mother which could be expanded in an arc actually investigating his cult but now there's no reason to give him another arc.

I don't think both of them could kill him even when they both get mark. They might be able to cut off his head but he probably won't die.

If he does die they'll have a huge task just to get him to be serious in the first place.

But it's more about when he will appear next. All the demons rely on secret powers being revealed and their motivations coming to light. Since all villains die in this manga, we don't get the usual recurring villain thing. With everything being revealed from Douma, there would be nothing to elaborate on with his next appearance so he has to die here. Koku for example will be kept relatively mysterious in this arc even if he gets some kills in because it allows for everything to be shown from him in the arc where he dies.

Hardboiled

We saw the flashback but there was absolutely nothing connecting it to Douma. It feels very forced to suddenly reveal that he ate her like this, without any prior hints at a connection. The same for Kanae, come to mention it. If this were happening in a self contained arc it would be better because it would’ve been possible to hint at it a bit before the reveal. But instead we got this thing.

In fact one could argue that this new one is a slight retcon, considering the missing blood on her clothes.

But how else can it be revealed, we know how these people died and only they know who killed them. The only way for it to be revealed is by the demon who did it talking about it. Also, Inosuke was a baby, obviously he couldn't remember anything accurately but all the elements in his flashback happened.

As I was saying, it would’ve worked better as an individual arc. The reveals could be done in a similar way but with some actual hinting beforehand. In that instance for Inosuke, he didn’t necessarily have to remember anything himself but it could’ve been hinted at by others. Maybe one of the cult members could’ve thought he was familiar or something before Douma revealed the full story.

For Kanae, we’ve known about her death for the same amount of time and were never given a reason to believe Shinobu knew anything about the demon that did it. Until this arc, when it was suddenly brought up that she not only had a physical description of him but also apparently knows how to kill him (according to that one conversation). There wouldn’t even need to be anything specific mentioned just something like “I’ve been thinking about how to kill/searching for the demon that killed her,” and a vague mention of his personality (e.g. smiles a lot). Literally anything to indicate she had some knowledge of him beforehand.

Again, the reveals happening how they have wouldn’t be so bad if there was at least some earlier indication that Douma had a connection to them. But there wasn’t. To me the way it’s been presented feels like a last minute attempt to justify killing him off earlier than he should’ve been.

It really sucks that this is probably the case because everything we’ve seen in his battles could’ve easily been made into it’s own arc. And it would’ve been amazing set out like that. It’s a shame we’re getting such a compressed version instead.

I think it’s even stranger that she’s doing this when Akaza and presumably the new UM4-6 are all dying now as well. It’s overkill to throw in Douma’s death on top of that. The only thing I can think of that might happen is for him to overcome the neck cut weakness. Returning to his battle directly after Akaza’s might be a lead up to that happening. But I don’t think it’s very likely.

Pretty much. Inosuke was already angry with Douma for killing Shinobu, it just doesn't make much sense to add the mother stuff that could have easily fit in in another arc unless Douma was to die right there.
