I'll never get over how the first 5 episodes, especially the first episode, were so good and unique but then after that it really just turned into generic shounenshit.
Gave up around episode 25 or 30 or so.

yyh was pretty influential and innovative on the genre, it's like how seinfeld seems generic but it changed the way people write sitcoms.

>Series from 90's shonen jump which doesn't includes a muscle hero
>Generic
How mate? It was probably one of the bunch who didn't tried to have muscular main character like Hnk,jojo, ultimate muscle etc. It isn't something great to me but it was good at it's time.

undoubtedly YYH has its flaws, but the characters are charming, the mascot is cute and the second part is top notch, changing totally what a "battle shonen" means. Yes, it was ripping off JoJo, but Togashi was young and inexperienced. it wasn't very deep or complex, but it has its good moment.
TL;DR. for today's standards is not so good, but if we compare it with the standards of its generation it was pretty good.

Except comparing it to stuff that came before its generic

Are you mistaking it for Dragonball or something, are you kidding me?
Dragon ball and Kid Goku destroyed the musclebound protag thing back in '84. And then everyone else in dragonball kept doing it the next 11 years. By the time yyh came around peopel were already used to seeing mids being able to bunch out planets along with an old man being able to destroy the moon and a fat blob being the strongest thing in the universe.

>Yes, it was ripping off JoJo
