I watched the first season with Yea Forums while it was airing and had a good time. I was going to pick up the LN, but then I learned about that little girl character that was apparently introduced so that the MC and red head could form a pseudo family around her. I hate the "make the mc and main heroine into surrogate parents" trope so god damn much that it killed all interest I had in the series.

Season 2 was made with no budget but they still decided to do it because the merchandise was selling good enough at the time thanks to S1, they didn't waste time and released the movie the next year because most animeonly fans were dropping the series. They tried to do the same with season 3 but since most animeonly fans dropped the series in S2 the new season flopped, not only that but the diehard fans of the series who bought S2(it managed to sell 6k average), didn't buy this one after how shitty the pre-screening looked. It doesn't help the rest of the season was barely an improvement over S2.

Nobody asked for another season but they still made a new one because the novel was in its final arc so this was their last chance to cash in whatever remaining popularity the series had.

I started watching it because of this thread and I'm currently 5 episodes in. It's pretty fun. I can't say that it's the funniest thing I've ever seen but it's fairly charming. I do like the Villain x Hero relationship that they're probably building up, but I'm not a fan of what seems to be a fairly shallow character change from our Demon Lord. I hope they go into more details about his change of heart apart from "well I like it here so I'll be good". I also got a kick out of the implication that modern society is a perfect fit for a literal demon, while a good person is struggling to adjust.

I loved this series and even started reading the novels, but after so much time there was still barely any development between maou and emi that I got bored and stopped following what was going on.
Nips can't write genuinely good stories so it always bothers me when they forgo romance and wish fulfilment (the only things they're good at) for a feeble attempt at a story which ends up always being either extremely cliche or extremely disorganized and random.
