To answer the question though I think it really depends. IY has a pretty small cast so I think something like a standard turn based system would work fine. SRPGs I find are better for larger casts of characters

Right. The repetition does set in if you binge watch but if you're just allowing yourself to enjoy it paced out you can find a lot of variety in the types of episodes. You have funny ones where everyone gets drunk, Intense action episodes and plenty of romantic ones.
