>Fantasy world with game mechanics.
>Romance series where MC is either a beta doormat with a generic personality, a complete asshole/bitch with almost no redeeming qualities, a self-insert hiki-NEET loser, or some weird combination of the three.
>Romance series where the main love interest is a complete asshole/bitch with almost no redeeming qualities.
>Main conflict is driven by easy-to-resolve misunderstandings and/or multiple characters being too dumb to live.
>First episode/chapter features gore-porn, brutal rape, extreme torture, and/or some equally edgy bullshit.
>The MC is extremely unlikable, but we are expected to root for them anyway.
>No one in the series can do anything right except for the Mary Sue/Gary Stu MC who is always right and can do no wrong.
ITT: Red flags that almost guarantee that a series will be shit
>the cast is one male and the rest females
>the MC looks bland and unidentifable while all the females have flashy designs
>Series premise revolves something that causes outrage and nothing else
Literally asking for it to fall apart.
>based on a popular video game
Hello nu-male, SJW.
Pretty much describes most of what I watch. I recognize that it's terrible but I somehow still hold out hope that one, just ONE FUCKING TIME, it will be made interesting. I see the potential of what could have been but get disappointed every single time, maybe I'm addicted to disappointment?
>First episode/chapter features gore-porn, brutal rape, extreme torture, and/or some equally edgy bullshit.
>The MC is extremely unlikable, but we are expected to root for them anyway.
SJW taste.
>Weapons upgrade based on whatever game mechanics you believe they should
Literally what’s stopping someone from making there own mechanic.
/pol/ buzzwords are not an argument. If you have one then tell me what about my comment was incorrect and why.
Is "snowflake taste" better then?
Your comment is incorrect because your shit taste doesn't mean something is objectively shit.
OP here, I'm the same. I'll see a really cool story idea or characters with a lot of potential, but then I'll start to notice the usual signs of low-effort story-telling that I listed above. I'll try to give it a chance and hope the author turns it around or at least deconstructs it in some way, but it almost always turns out to be shit.
Do you do the same thing that I do that during episodes most of the time your mind drifts to what could have been rather than what is actually on the screen?
List stories with those elements that you think are good and I'll tell you why they're shit.
>>No one in the series can do anything right except for the Mary Sue/Gary Stu MC who is always right and can do no wrong.
this unironically
>>Romance series where MC is either a beta doormat with a generic personality, a complete asshole/bitch with almost no redeeming qualities, a self-insert hiki-NEET loser, or some weird combination of the three.
not this, you just killed 99 percent of the series in existence
>all only female or male cast
9/10 animation and color, too flashy and incredibly familiar character designs.
Those are almost always great anime.
>you just killed 99 percent of the series in existence
I only applied that comment to romance series, because I believe a good portion of romance anime and manga being churned out these days are uninspired cookie-cutter self-insert shit. There are however a few ones that have a likable engaging MC though.
>MC is a faggot
>some pretentious shit in the intro to the first episode
>overexaggerated character archetypes like shy one stutter like they have braindamage, edge ones licking the blade in the first scene they appear or careless one having hands nehind his head and having an attitude about almost everything in the world
>schrodingers cat being mentioned in any way
>first episode having a bunch of maincast characters having conversation about something in an extremely infodumpy manner
>mc has a sister
It's been a while since a vidya game got some adaptation.
I mean, something that isn't a mobage adaptation.
>red flags that a series will be great
>people like OP hate it
Your salt is fucking delicious, now suck my dick and regain some electrolytes, cuck
Not him and i also think that what he said was stupid but, berserk started it's first chapter with guts fucking a demon and blowing it's brains out.
AKA
newfag OP finally notices shitty anime tropes - the thread
They would love to have you on leddit
The Berserk manga's art was great, but most of the story was just shock-value violence/rape. If you take that away then the only thing left of the story is the pseudo-philosophical nonsense that the writer threw in, in a failed attempt to add depth to what is otherwise meaningless violence.
Yeah, pretty much. I just sit there thinking "Why did the writers do this!? It would have been so easy to make a good story out of this..." And then I come up with head canons on how it could have been better. Sometimes I feel like the writers/mangaka are intentionally trying to ruin their own series.
