Not ones like NRFS, that's for sure.

you bet

You can't just have a show about that. Just having some knight going around killing things doesn't make for a good series even if some people do like the way they look (which is going to vary between people). I think a lot of anime or manga just put that bare minimum amount of thinking into their series though, which is why there's so much trash.

>anime has MMO mechanics

Attached: 138021.jpg (191x183, 8K)

Only if they're lolis otherwise there's no profit.

The only way I'd see this taking off and being successful is if it realizes that it has to be like Berserk in terms of its scope and embraces a gritty written story and art direction. Japs love medieval knight attire so its just a matter of writing something cohesive and appealing.

Attached: 1455784302857.jpg (934x1294, 587K)

I am so fucking sick of this shit and isekai

I believe this one is doing fine, though I suppose he doesn't really count as a standard knight

Attached: GS 01.jpg (673x960, 106K)

I refuse to watch anything that has this garbage.

Were they ever? I can’t name a single anime about a knight who actually wears armour and a helmet like in your pic.

Yes, however the downside is that they're all potatoes.

Attached: kimetsu threads in a nutshell.png (1167x857, 465K)

I'm liking these books a lot, Its sad that we've come to a point where this is the only fantasy anime as of late that never goes near the topic of experience, levels, stats or even specific attack moves.

Attached: 1509064945177.jpg (358x422, 9K)

>generic modern day chuuni medieval themed battle shounen show turns into a depressing and violent suffer fest with gruesome consequences
>animated by BONES
>written by Gen Urobuchi after he stops fucking around with dolls

To be fair even if its mediocre like Madoka it would stand head and shoulders above the shit being aired over the past year.

Attached: 1365441393890.jpg (262x343, 22K)

But puppet kino is already what you described (minus the BONES part)

I never dropped an anime so fast and so hard as I did with Rising of Shield Hero.

Anything that's not a fantasy MMO setting would be a lifesaver desu.

im pretty sure the butcher gave up on suffering plots awhile ago

>meduka but with dudes and more existential suffering
I'll take 10.

Attached: 1467260028234.jpg (609x345, 37K)

nips have a huge boner for knights so yes
just look at the success of berserk and dark souls in japan

In a battle shounen? Pretty profitable but you still need fanservice characters to carry you through. Shows like Berserk are becoming way too niche to turn a profit.

It could be popular, look at stuff like fateshit, Berserk, Goblin Slayer etc. Just put in the bare minimum effort for story and worldbuilding, add some waifubait and edge, and you've got yourself a sorta decent franchise

Attached: d2a66e7ca0c4d28322793f3ef821ae3a.jpg (850x1133, 131K)

GOT drew dimes yes

Yes but anime is a garbage medium for it because nips can't into that setting unless it has some shitty SAO tier RPG elements to it.

Attached: 1366841091041.jpg (616x616, 38K)

The only masterpiece medieval anime i can think (whithout isekai and mmo bullshit) is berserk.Goblin slayer is meh. claymore is kinda of cool but it quickly gets boring.

If Berserk ever updated it would be profitable

I know this sounds kind of cringey but a blend between Berserk's themes and aesthetics and PMMM's modern gritty reconstructive modern day take on "battling monsters" would be a dream come true for me. (but without the "it's a cute show" cloak and dagger bait and switch.

Attached: 1407024360662.jpg (1920x1080, 605K)

Also fuck my phone screwed up this post hardcore.

Fateshit rakes in mad dosh even though it's mediocre trash.

Someone post the mute knightbro collage

Only if it ends on a good note. Rebellion had such a garbage ending to an otherwise previous satisfying series ending.

Attached: 1365571145283.jpg (1920x1080, 266K)

It's the other way around. The epilogue to the series was complete garbage and Rebellion's ending was great.

What about an anime that involves aliens or otherworldly entities giving humans the ability to be chuuni warriors (MC is a realistic depiction of a knight, his friend is a Wizard spellcaster with a staff, and one of the "antagonists is a QT homeless girl who's motif is a ninja) to fight "the big bad demons that lurk in the shadows"

But the twist is the anime is an introspective analysis of human existence and the futility of trying to change the past and shape the future to avoid inevitable consequences, and also highlights to impending doom of mankind due to their hard wired impulses to destroy one another. The "demons" the MC and co fight are all the "magical protectors" who ended up getting corrupted by their own magical power.

TOP 100 MOST PROFITABLE IPS OF ALL TIME!

still trash

THis

berserk goblin slayer and drifters say otherwise

Attached: tumblr_omtsm8qfQ31w5mctzo1_400.gif (400x225, 1.84M)

Sure, why not

I'd like it to be, and if it is I'd like it to focus on somewhat realistic combat.

Only if he remove MMO mechanics and let the mc use real "sword".

>tumblr

Yes, but it's not so easy to be cool.

They have certain magical abilities, kind of like how Homura could stop time and Sayaka could heal fast, but there's no level up exp skill bar shit at all. The MC would look realistic with their knight getup too like pic related

Attached: XEMTb9L.png (792x1091, 653K)

Are there any fantasy shows where the protag uses a warhammer? I dig those, I feel like weapons that aren't swords don't get enough love.

>Knight mc's endgame transformation is just him tanking hits and blows.

Attached: Havel.jpg (1280x720, 172K)

> MC is the only character in his world who wears armour and no-one thinks about using blunt weapons

> his only weakness is running out of breath

Attached: 5157670+_e7fe6ff962df3b529407eb2a53446c5b.jpg (534x486, 57K)

This is the exact same shit as isekai where everyone is retarded except the MC and everyone who read it is an unsufferable idiot who think they're enjoying a "subversion" of classic fantasy. Go back to your containment threads you fucking faggot.

berskerk and drifters both have actual stories and realistic motivation behind the character, not just a knight going around killing things

We already know how a knight MC would play out, but how would (You) give him a not-retarded supporting cast?

-A wise, cool old guy who ends up mistrusting the MC
-A good male friend who ends up betrayed by the MC
-A slut who is a proper slut (not a witch nor a healer nor secret princess goddess or w/e) who gets used and discarded by the MC
-A bitter and depressed waifu who never gets better

I just gave you some Elisabethan tragedy stereotypes, they're old as shit, but still better than isekai stereotypes

Attached: 1393472285050.png (511x486, 64K)

While those sound great for a good story, they're not exactly marketable enough to sustain a manga/LN/VN etc. Is there a "middle ground" between good storytelling and appeal?

>things that will never get an anime but totally fucking should

Attached: ares-6-booken-fr.jpg (2255x3331, 611K)

Uh, by "appeal" and "marketable", do you mean "wish fulfillment fantasies"?

Just take the ones I mentioned and replace "MC" with "MC's slightly older mentor guy"
MC is the younger tyke on the side,
wise, old guy warns MC not to turn out like his mentor,
mentor's friend may or may not bully MC and he may or may not die in the middle of the story, depending on how much edge you want,
slut turns to MC for consolation after mentor discards her,
bitter waifu may or may not warm up to MC, depending on the wish fulfillment levels you want.
If you want it to become really cliched and shitty, mentor betrays MC in the end and is big bad, if you still want a good story, make an actual big bad or have the MC betray them all and revel in the shitstorm afterwards

Attached: an pis.png (1230x811, 38K)

>that spoiler
Have endings like those ever worked out fine? In any form of media?

Garo is still doing well in Japan. It's a live action urban fantasy series about Knights in magical armors fighting demons in modern times.

Attached: __christopher_harden_garo_knight_and_sword_garo_vanishing_line_and_etc_drawn_by_zhen_long__sample-7f (850x449, 127K)

That looks like mecha

Depend on your definition of mecha. The Makai Knight/Hell Knights/Demon Realm Knight's armor are form fitting, human-sized and magical in nature. So quite different from your usual real mecha.

If they did Berserk properly they would make absolute bank.

In the Star Wars KOTOR game you can betray all your team except one when you turn to the dark side near the end.

No.

>knights
>cool
Good one OP.

I'll admit I'm a filthy fad-chasing secondary who started with the anime but Kimetsu no Yaiba's got a lot of stuff I like in that regard. Of course I don't know much about the manga so things could go south real quick in that regard.
>period piece setting, Meiji/Taisho-era kind of stuff so MC still has a plausible reason to rely on his katana to slice off demon heads instead of just grabbing a fucking rifle like Saichi Sugimoto
>premise of a guy having his family slaughtered and his sister cursed and him trying to dispel that curse
>demon hunting group sending him on missions via his smartphone bird so you have the quasi-episodic premise to make him a kind of knight errant traveling from quest to quest, no "adventuring guild" pretending to be about adventuring, this dude's job is killing demons for his demon killing company and there is no pretensions about it
>balance of serious, dark moments with breaks of levity
>no RPG mechanics to half-ass supernatural techniques, just good old fashioned naming your attacks and then screaming them when you use them
>only real contemporary indulgence is the quasi-arbitrary ranking system the demon hunting organization uses but it doesn't seem to weight in too much beyond a vetting mark.

It's not quite a wandering knight/samurai kind of story, but I'll take it. I'll take anything to save me from LN detritus.
Shit aren't we getting the Vinland Saga adaptation next season?

Attached: 6cad71e9a5bd4d8a8e68d77145f7295b.jpg (826x1280, 235K)

Take it back.

Give him a rival that's like Jetstream Sam.

>teen squire that MC trains to show off MC's depth of skill in a low-stakes manner and also helps maintain his equipment
>if the setting has more fantasy elements, maybe like a wizard guy or an older Gandalf-type guy that can shoot fireballs and help with more esoteric tasks like dark magic curses and the like, also can be wikipedia/pokedex for supernatural creatures, or go the Berserk route and have it be a cute girl like Schierke to contrast with the hulking, brawling knight
>thief that's actually a spy, involved in court intrigue and kingdom espionage but can also help out when things involve things that require more dexterity like picking locks or scaling walls or some other thing
>princesses and maidens to save are kind of de facto but I like the idea of a Buttercup from Princess Bride kind of love interest, MC left his home to become this celebrated, valiant warrior and become landed gentry, and there's a girl from his humble hometown waiting for him
>talking horse
>mystery knight in red, black and gold that goes three times faster that challenges MC to duels every so often while vaguely hinting at some bigger plot over the course of the story

Attached: 9230595_p0.jpg (4167x3729, 596K)

Attached: neckbeard.jpg (625x400, 149K)

I don't think that you really know much about the series, though I reckon that lately the threads are pretty trashy.

Sooo adapt Arthurian legends into an anime? I am fuckin down for that.

Attached: flesh wound.jpg (640x360, 29K)

Make me.

You should all read Henkyou no Roukishi. It's about old man Knight adventures

Going for more of a Conan sword and sorcery vibe from this, good shit. Would mysterry knight be some kind of deity/spirit guardian/demi-god dad?

It is really just
>/tg/ Greentext Storytime: Nihon Boogaloo
It is such a stereotypical rundown of a D&D campaign where the fun bits are all in focus while everything else is either generic or blatantly plagiarized but no one gives a shit cause it is fun.

oof

I would kill for something like this.

Even with the minimal amount of effort you can get something like that. The visual attire only serves to boost the appeal.

Garbage taste.

you mean like the chuuni capes and pauldrons type of knights or the more gritty realistic demon's souls type of knight?

Attached: 5783259873629.gif (320x240, 1022K)

I miss the butcher

I'd like gritty realistic. Something like older Berserk but with an Mc less superhuman than Guts.

So a knight MC that's substantially skilled but not godly overpowered like Gattsu

Yeah. He's definitely better than most in the setting, but at most he can take on like 3 people, he can get tired in a fight etc.

Someone who definitely has a chance of succeeding, but there's still a lot of hardsips he has to overcome.

Someone getting so powerful that no one would want to fuck with them 1v1 but the strongest tier of demon could still fuck them up.

Attached: 1377097314152.jpg (1280x720, 884K)

100 fucking percent fund this shit right here.

Attached: acb2c9fb3faf85b65495af54e2cf96b1.jpg (256x256, 10K)

Pretty much.

Something like Garo but without the over the top armor designs and a more somber and gritty storyline would be absolute top tier.

All that would be needed is to make a Berserk-like anime that isn't Berserk and it would sell millions it's not that hard yet these retarded nips still keep shitting out garbage SAO clones.

Mine is Laws of Valor + Akarat's Champion + Iron Skin. It's like turning into Demonbane for 20 seconds.

Attached: Did someone say heresy.jpg (1309x954, 571K)

Except in thunderbolt literally everyone suffered, including a goddamn Aoi Yuuki sword.

Kind of like how Homura was really skilled from being in those time loops for over 6 years but still couldn't defeat Walpurgis because it was just so insanely powerful for one person to beat on their own.

Attached: 1361125329975.jpg (1128x634, 44K)

A show like this will eventually come. The industry just needs to drown in the current state of its mediocrity to realize there needs to be a fresh take on this genre.

Homura is worse than Griffith.

Homura did nothing wrong.

Why in fuck do people write this shit in? Even good RPGs don’t ever mention the mechanics.

the first garo anime was amazing and has some amazing emotional story beats, the feudal japan one and vanishing line completely sucked dick. vanishing line had potential but theres too many flaws like poor direction and writing

Neither did Griffith

>>generic modern day chuuni medieval themed battle shounen show turns into a depressing and violent suffer fest with gruesome consequences
>>written by Gen Urobuchi

That's Fate Zero

Should such a hypothetical MC be 'muh honourabru chivalric knight' or should he be more of a pragmatist that's little more than a gussied up mercenary?

Should be a wide eye'd shounen seeking justice turned into an infected crestfallen warrior who only has a few months to live before he turns into a demon.

>Knight MC's trait is shield defense and enhanced stamina
>Samurai anti-hero rival figure has super-fast attack speed and crits
>QT witch girl has healing abilities
>Cocky neutral transfer student dude who doesn't take sides is a halberd lancer

Attached: 14236436453.gif (300x530, 1.9M)

nips love mmos

It better end with him turning into a demon and being slain

Most Japanese got their exposure to fantasy through JRPGs where it is pretty common to interweave narrative and mechanics in a very ham-fisted manner.

I like the over-the-top battles that the series had. It had the elements of a noble dark series. The world itself is quite shitty but the people with special powers still are heroes and protecting the people. It has the romanticism and idealism of a knightly tales or old fables.

It ends with his friend "stealing" the "power stone" from the other dimensional "contractors" who turn out to be the bad guys, and attempts to heal him, but before she can fully cure him he stabs her through the chest and takes the stone because at this point he's gone almost 100% crazy from the sickness. All of the contractors watch him do it and make no attempt to stop them, while one has an inner monologue about how humans were "the most admirable and promising creatures to experiment on because he would go as far as to kill their own kind to achieve their goals, something other lifeforms they have met in the galaxy didn't have a tendency to do.

He takes the stone and transforms, but it's not a demon creature he turns into, his knight armor turns into armored black robes with a black crown, all of the contractor dudes kneel before him. It snaps to black with a voice saying "Our plan was a success. All hail our Lord".

If it's interesting enough, you can get away with ignoring several tropes.
SNK doesn't have cute girls, has no romance, no harem, none of the typical japanese humor, yet it's a big sucess.
But a show about "cool knights" and warriors can become really boring really fast because it's hard to portray knights in a manner that they look cool without them becoming insufferable moralfags or edgelords.

Attached: 1533521785045.jpg (1115x1600, 802K)

Taiwanese puppet board when?

But there are tons of qts in SnK

Isn’t Nanatsu no Taiza like one of the best selling shonen manga right now?

Anything Nihei always has some form of knights imagery.

Attached: Tsumgi-Knights-of-Sidonia[1].jpg (852x1200, 254K)

You know what would be cool? An anime that takes place in a pseudo-historical Asia Minor during the not!Crusades. Especially if they show how the not!Turks and not!Arabs are infighting as well as fighting the not!crusaders who are also squabbling among themselves.

Attached: Asia_Minor_and_the_States_of_the_Crusaders.jpg (1200x1282, 384K)

>SNK doesn't have cute girls
This nigga can't be serious.

Everyone is dying for the next "Berserk" to be made. It will happen eventually once japs get the shitty SAO syndrome out of their systems and go back to basics.

Homura a shit.

How many mangas/novels have a ballista/xbow user MC? getting tired of staffless magicians and lightly armored swordmasters.

Why is Elite Knight armor so gorgeous?

Attached: 13607421441665.png (324x475, 296K)

Because it keeps its nobility aesthetic while not straying away from a realistic functional set of armor that's not too over-cumbersome.

Not really but Berserk is a literal masterpiece.

Wolfsmund but he's irrelevant for large chunks of the story.
