This was fine

This was fine.
Pretty standard and kinda annoying harem schlock, but the style was neat and I liked the premise enough.
Is it worth getting into the fuckton of sequel/prequels/whatever or is this the peak of the franchise?

Attached: bake.jpg (1920x2599, 503K)

Totally worth it.

Has its ups and downs, but the first arc of Bake (Hitagi Crab) is one of the best for its simplicity. Owarimonogatari's second season (in 2017) is great though, as is the bulk of Second Season (2013).

Don't watch it. We don't want your kind here.

Watch it as long as you enjoy it, retard. Keep in mind that the Cat's arcs are pretty weak.
>peak of the franchise
Only plebs think so. Which is the best arc is arguable, but many would say it's the last arc of Monogatari Season 2.

>Pretty standard
I'm sorry what

Literally nothing about it is standard especially when it was released you fucking freak.

It's my favourite series despite the small harem. I'm now just starting the books which have much more substance and make more sense. reading them while overlapping the anime's asthetic in my mind is kino

I just don't see what's so special about it.
It's very stylish, sure, but the characters are all cliched and fairly uninteresting to me.
I'm just drawn to shows like this, mononoke, mushishi, or natsume book of friends, with an episodic structure focused on solving issues dealing with the paranormal, and that's what I enjoyed the most about it.
Idk maybe it gets better, but I don't see myself sticking with these people for so many series. Hence why I'm asking wether it gets any better.

Absolutely.

If you're in it for the paranormal, yeah, you're not going to find it that interesting. The supernatural stuff is generally framing devices for the characters and their interactions with each other. There's a few exotic things later in the series but if you really didn't like the writing and wordplay, you're not going to enjoy the rest.
I genuinely don't know how you find any of them except maybe Hanekawa to be cliched.

>the characters are all cliched
dude... they literally make fun of all the clichees and how none of the characters reallly fit the bill.

If anything, many other shows merely copied its ideas and MADE its designs more common in the past 10 years.

Attached: eat up!.webm (960x540, 2.32M)

That's kinda bullshit though because the only way to really enjoy the wordplay is to learn japanese. All the subs are flaming garbage as well including the official ones

It's just some harem bullshit filled with cheap ass philosophy to impress teenagers that want to feel witty. Personally the only good thing about it is the lewd and I managed to watch every season of it only by having my dick constantly wrapped in my hands fapping while I was watching. Only way you can digest it.

I might give S2 a second shot after reading this thread. I dropped it around when Senjougahara told her relation with kaiki.

1st season has the best visuals, but since you didn't care you might as well keep going because you'll never see the peak

It really isn't. Bake is the only one worth a shit.

If you don't like the dialogues, aesthetics and fan service you probably won't get through them.

I guess all I will get from this thread is that it is a very polarizing franchise.
Guess sooner or later I will check out the rest and judge for myself.

>Standard

The peak is Owari and Monogatari Second season

the series is centered around the dialogue and character interactions, everything else is just a means to an end, which should be fairly obvious given that the setting, visuals and even the plot lines barely connect or are blatantly inconsistent

>which should be fairly obvious given that the setting,
a town?

Kizumonogatari III is the peak

You don't need to watch anything else to jump into the movies

Nah, the lack of RRRRG's inner monologue and the weird pink color scheme kinda made it meh to watch.

Monogatari is pretty good but it's missing background characters

the books are the best way to experience this series, but that requires a little too much effort from the average Yea Forums user

>the lack of RRRRG's inner monologue
A good thing.

the only time this show has any extras, they are just floating kanji or silhouettes

No.

I might try reading them and I've heard the translations are good. Question is does the wordplay actually work in the novels. Do they actually bother to localise it

>I want the mc to have less character so I can self insert

the novels are great, but don't fool yourself into thinking you'll experience even half of the Japanese puns, word-plays and silly corruptions of their grammar without actually hearing it.

Hitagi Crab arc only had 2 TL notes for wordplay jokes and it made sense

Well that's the question. Does this English version actually make it into something understandable.

Imagine a wonderful world where monogatari was the standard anime quality.

just watch Kizumonogatari

Understandable? Sure.
Is it the same thing, or even half as smooth most of the time? No.
The general conversations and characters trolling each other you can follow with ease. But especially with the Snail, you might just as well talk about head-canon fanfic at times.

No

OK well that sounds pretty positive

Attached: 1553070928905.png (682x981, 845K)

Kuro Nekomonogatari is boring and Nisemonogatari turns up the schlock while dialing dowb the intelligence of the show, but if you manage to get past those two pieces of shit, the later seasons are even better than the first one.

The quality depends on the translation, but yes, Vertical makes an attempt to localize most puns. Some land, some don't.
Sometimes there's some next level shit like pic related.

it's called hell

>The quality depends on the translation
Depends on the translator, I mean.
3 have worked on the series so far.

Attached: image0.png (2276x1616, 1.35M)

Don't worry, everyones IQ is raised to a minimum of 95 also.

First two episodes are such a perfect condensation of the series' formula I consider it to be the peak. That does not mean the rest of the show is bad, however. The later seasons dropped down in overal quality, though, but if you've reached that far into the series and you liked what you saw, you will be able to reconcile the negatives with the positives the show still has at that point.

What's with these anons being so protective of monogatari? We all know it's pretty standard, which doesn't mean it's not fun. The show is like 50 episodes long at this point, and every episode is the same as the previous one.

Actually books are easier to consume (but not necessarily to digest) because you do it at your own pace and aren't constrained by the runtime of an anime.

I want to smell nadekos room at the exact moment she is playing twister.

>What's with these anons being so protective of X?

Replace X with any series and you have a question that can apply to every series in existence bar a few. People defend what they like, because what they like is inherent to their personality, and as such, if what they like is "insulted", their psyche is insulted.

It's not "standard" though. There wasn't really anything else like it at the time it came out, and I'd argue its imitators can't live up to the bar it sets for character interaction.

>There wasn't really anything else like it at the time it came out
Literally any show by Shaft before it.

Yeah bro Pani Poni Dash was totally the same as Bake. Fuck off retard.

Sorry for insulting your baby's first Shaft, faggot.

>but the characters are all cliched
You're gonna have to explain to me what cliches are embodied by which characters, cause this smacks of BS.

Go on retard, explain how Bake is totally a rip off of Pani Poni Dash, Popotan, or SZS (my actual first shaft anime)?

for me it's more meta than what you say. monogatari had a huge impact on the culture in the early tens regardless of whether you like it or not. I'd go as far to say that it's in the same category as haruhi or eva in that regard insofar as if you're on Yea Forums and haven't seen it you aren't really on the same page as everyone else.
that's true even if it's a complete piece of shit, oreimo is another great example.

You gonna back up these claims at all?

Should I watch oreimo then?

Sure, no doubt about it. But I think that the extreme defensiveness for most people stems from what I said. I think that people who understand or see anime the way you do probably have a more nuanced way of defending it.

He's saying the setting is inconsistent in scenes, not that the general setting necessarily proves that the dialogue is central to the experience per se.

Totally worth it, binged over spring break and it was great

Some arcs/parts may not be better than earlier ones but the ones that shine really fucking shine

Wouldn’t rate any part of the series below an 8 desu it’s all great

>Wouldn’t rate any part of the series below an 8 desu it’s all great
>meanwhile Hanamonogatari

Not that guy but hanamonogatari is a pretty good character study. The pacing is a bit wacky but still.
