Grace motives made no sense and had next to no characterization hence why her herl face turn comes out if nowhere (the movie fixes this a bit but she was a lame villian overall). The PM guy was a petty asshole.

It's only a Macross show in the same way G-Gundam is a Gundam show.

As in if it weren't for the brand/mechs it borrowed for it's show, it would've been forgettable.

Because Kawamori had the atention span of kid with ADHD. The guy get boring easily with his projects. Plus he only use Macross to bank money. So he uses normally the most vapid and rentable fades at the moment. Added to that, the production of Escaflowne and the death of Arihiro Hase broked him.

Dropped the ball incredibly hard on the second half. Wasting some really good designs (both charas and mechs), stupidly good music and a decent setting.
