Just started reading the manga adaptation, I've seen the 'movie' and the animated series - it seems that this adaptation is going on slightly different routes.

Nisioisin is working together with oh great, so he's probably okay with the changes. It feels more shounen-ish, which makes sense because it's in the same magazine as 7DS, Fairy Tail, etc. I personally prefer the manga so far

Nisio gives full creative control to people adapting his novels. From his little notes at the end of manga volumes, he likes reading them like a fan and being surprised how they interpreted things and did things differently. I'm guessing it's the same for this.

I don't know how to feel about the way the manga has handled Suruga Monkey in comparison to the anime, at least as someone who hasn't read the LN.

I think the first half is overall better (except I wish they spent more time in Kanbaru's house like they did in the anime), but the latter half feels, I dunno, overexcessive? Araragi fighting back was also weird. Maybe the last bit with redeem it for me, though.

I think the fight in the manga was well executed, the anime was flashier yes but I like the araragi in theis version. Although I agree I would have preferred if the manga spent more time on kanbaru's house.

Well, I prefer Nisio's original vision more. Araragi fighting back isn't the biggest problem. It's alright. But OG made him say and think things he didn't say and think in the novels. It's just wrong.

People aren't nearly as braindead as you think. It was fine in the LN/anime it would have been fine now too.

I am grateful that Yea Forumsnon picked this up. This is fantastic. And the speed with which you have caught up is great too.

It's an interesting read but it feels like a lot of style over substance. The changes compared to both the LNs and the anime are all bad so far.

Yeah, but I think that is what makes it great. We already have the anime as a really great adaptation of the novels so the manga taking liberties and making full use of the god artist working on it is a good thing imo. Would be boring to read the same thing for the third time.

I don't disagree, I wouldn't bother reading it if it were identical. There's just something weird about a story and characters I like being warped like this, even if I try not to think about it like that. It's like I'm just reading it for novelty, when ideally it would give the reader something new to think about, in my opinion. I'm also a bit worried it might give new readers the wrong impression about the series. But it's still enjoyable enough.

Gotta admit I've been turned off this series for the last 10 years now but some of these pages are looking real stellar. Is the manga worth reading if I didn't like the anime?
