I keep thinking about the scene at the beginning of the show where Haruka's voice calls out to Kazuki, but he's not there. It's a timeline where Haruka doesn't exist, therefore Kazuki still wears the micanga and is his normal self.

I also think that the spin-off manga probably happens after Reo uses the plates to wish for himself and Mabu to have a normal life together, perhaps? They seem like humans in the manga, and Mabu emotes like I would assume his original self did. I think the spin-off manga and that scene in episode one are both after the events of the anime, in a new timeline.

At this point there's really no evidence to suggest that the manga came before the anime, especially since they're actually police officers in that version, whereas in the anime they were sent to the human world as fake ones, which is confirmed next episode. I think it's a stealth sequel.

The Haruka theory makes sense, but at the same time, his character seems to be over and done with when it comes to plot relevancy.

Despite some confusing symbolism within certain episodes, the ending of RGU seems pretty straight forward: in defeating Akio, Utena has finally set herself free from the shackles of “princelyhood” and the expectations thereof. She transcends concept of the prince and the patriarchy, and it ends with Anthy doing the same in order to find not only Utena, but her own self in a world where she’s allowed to be herself.

I found it really impressive how the lights are reflected in the puddles and how the glow can be seen on the walls and general surroundings.

Would it be too much to ask for Kazuki Tooi and Enta to end this show as a throuple who appreciate each other and communicate?

I don’t know about conflict but their interactions are certainly much sweeter. Toi defends him from those other kids, feels empathetic towards him during the first leaking scene, acknowledges his pain over his feelings for Kazuki, and apparently even spends his birthday with him (showing up early, even) and even invites him to come eat with him at his family’s shop. He’s been very kind to Enta, but Enta is too stuck on his “ideal” Kazuki to notice.

This is why the next episode is going to hurt even more. Tooi probably thinks higher of Enta than he leads on (certainly more than Kazuki), and he’s confided in him more than he has with Kazuki. So I’m anxious to see his reaction to Enta betraying him and stealing the Dishes of Hope. It’s gonna tear him apart inside :(
