It had SOUL. Better than moeshit magica.
Keep crying for me
Nothing. Its no better than kow level trash like Naruto or One Piece. Its popcorn entertainment.
Nothing, was more direct to Netflix garbage right up there with Blame! And the live action Death Note.
It's contender for AOTD and blows almost everything out of the water.
Don't expect anything good from Yea Forums contrarians though.
People actually think this? Jesus
>posts the moeshit laughing girl
Opinion disregarded.
Anime of the decade everyone
The only thing I remembered was both of the theme
songs
>SOUL all through
>The Ending
>Mindblowingly good synthwave OST: youtube.com
>Miki doggystyle dream sequence
>moeshit
>Lain
user, I liked DC, but calling Lain moeshit is very idiotic
Only Netflix babs with no frame of reference for actual quality.
I don't understand how this is hated but something like Madoka is praised here.
Nothing. Netflix originals are consistently low quality and/or have some sort of politically correct undertones.
>lain
>moeshit
Why are you even watching anime?
Moeshit doesn't exist.
I liked it a lot. Watched it right after finishing the manga. It certainly has its issues and some of the stuff it changes/adds makes it harder to follow than the manga but it's one of the few non-direct adaptations of something that I think was worth making. I was also put off by the artstyle when I was seeing images on Yea Forums but it works really well in motion. Completely worth however much garbage Netflix puts out that this was made.
Netflix didn't make this.
>he doesn't know
cute
Of course they didn't, they don't make anything. They licensed it.
They were still listed as a producer and it premiered on Netflix. I don't care about whatever technicalities there are about it not being a Netflix thing.
>marketed towards a western audience
>has the most explicit gay sex scene I've ever seen in an anime
Well they know their audience.
Netflix did not make it.
Lain is glorified moeshit and also garbage. Babbys first 'deep' anime.
Moeshit doesn't exist, which means Lain can't be moeshit. It's also not garbage. You are just lying.
I know that. You don't have to keep repeating yourself. I doubt Netflix made any of the anime that are considered Netflix originals. It's still associated with Netflix though and I'm sure most people shit on Netflix for the shows they don't like that were licensed or premiered on Netflix.
this
VEG blew crybabby out of the water
Lain sure does go unnecessarily deep just for the sake of being deep, though.
No it doesn't.
>Tfw using one reaction gif derails a thread this hard
God I love lainposting, I don't even care about the anime, I just love how fucking butthurt it makes everyone
>
you sir, are the biggest fool i've ever seen (and you do see plenty when your intelligence is of the highest caliber), VEG is one of the best animated works in years and you're just mindlessly bandwaggoning like a sheep, you should definitely give VEG a go (especially if you have a cinephile setup, it elevates the experience to the upper echelon of kino)
veg would have been better if it wasn't so depressing. Real life is miserable enough, I don't need my cute girl cartoons to remind me.
then maybe shounen anime or the mcu is more up to your speed, troglodyte
you'll find plenty of discussion pertraining both of those on reddit
my favorite OST
youtube.com
It's made by the same studio that made Ping Pong. I doubt Netflix had anything to do with the series besides having the broadcasting rights.
Isn't it the most accurate-to-the-manga of any Devilman anime?
>I don't even care about the anime.
What's the point? I don't lain post because I have an affinity for Lain beyond the context of the anime, I sexual her whore sister instead. It's all about the meaning.
I don't think there's been any other anime that's adapted the entire manga. The 70s TV series is apparently an adaptation of something else, just with the character of Devilman. And the 2 OVAs, while (somewhat) more accurate to the manga, don't adapt very much of the story. Crybaby is pretty different from the manga but it still adapts most of the major plot points. I think it does some things better, but it also does some things worse.
Nothing.
And the "animation" was shit as well.
>Isn't it the most accurate-to-the-manga of any Devilman anime?
No. It's quite the opposite. It repeated a few plot points from the manga but neglected all themes and characters.
>The 70s TV series is apparently an adaptation of something else
The 70s anime was produced concurrently to the manga. That's why it has a diverging plot early on: The episodes had to be produced before Nagai released the corresponding chapters, even before he made some pivotal decisions.
Read his "Gekiman" manga if you're interested in the details.
the music
The OVAs were arguably more accurate but they don't cover the overall story like Crybaby did.
I still love them for what they are though
>tfw MAN MAN MAN MAN MAN MAN HUMAN
>OVAs were arguably more accurate
>arguably
Nothing to argue there. They were. Ask anyone who's read the manga: When it comes to accuracy, Crybaby simply fucked up.
You'd be surprised at what may constitute "accuracy" on here in general, I threw in the "arguably" for good measure.
>When it comes to accuracy, Crybaby simply fucked up.
Wasn't saying otherwise, and while the changes sometimes made for an interesting adaptation, I would have preferred if core elements like Ryo's character stayed the same. Of course Crybaby's 10-episode length didn't help.
It's 90% netflix haters and 10% devil man haters
>10% devil man haters
Bullshit. Those who hate Devilman (and Nagai) love Crybaby.
I mean hating on the adaptation, not the franchise itself
Actually the animation is not its strength, its flashy, gory style and music is, and the classic devilman story made it a success. Also the fact that this was a netflix production, allowed the series to be uncensored. I guess it became so popular that Yea Forums started hating for no good reason
>hating on the adaptation
Well, but that works the other way around as well: The more you like the original, the less you'll like what Crybaby did with it.
Add to that there are numerous genuine reasons to dislike it even if you knew nothing about Devilman before.
Can’t wait for Yea Forums to start bitching about how awful Eva is for being a Netflix original
I just don't like the changes they made, the new Ryou is awful.
>for no good reason
Really? No good reason?
Because if you love the franchise as a whole, you have very good reasons to dislike it.
You yourself wrote that the animation was weak.
The writing was unfocused and replaced the originals strong themes with weak sociopolitical messages.
Then there's Crybaby's fans who behaved like shit from the very beginning and insulted Nagai on every single opportunity. That includes reviewers who spoke badly of the original while applauding Yuasa for diverging from it. They also still come to Nagai threads to vent their hatred. Look at how they behaved in /m/'s Cutie Honey thread for example.
Fair enough. I liked the changes to be honest. It felt like a cool revamping. I only hated the scene with that dude who was rapping at a bitch for 1 min straight. It was pure cringe scene.
I love the franchise mate. I read the manga years ago. The main themes and the main story stuff are included in crybaby. I like the new elements that the director included because it gave a new perspective to the series. I didnt say the animation is weak, I said its not what it got my attention. Animation wise, devilman crybaby is good but it doesnt reach One punch man season 1 animation. I didnt know why nagai was insulted by crybaby fans and I cant really understand why would they do it. Care to elaborate?
>The main themes and the main story stuff are included in crybaby.
Story: Yes. Themes: No. Not at all. The exploration of morality that the original had was so poor in Crybaby that you could say it wasn't even there. In Crybaby all the storybeats rang hollow, and it didn't really get what the characters were about. Ryo being the obvious example, but only the tip of the iceberg.
>Animation wise, devilman crybaby is good but it doesnt reach One punch man season 1 animation.
That's laughable. Crybaby's animation is weak. It's undefined and weightless, looks comical. Why do you think the "Devilman run" (pic related) became a meme?
It also lacks any shading or depth perception. But I guess that comes with Yuasa naturally.
>I didnt know why nagai was insulted by crybaby fans and I cant really understand why would they do it. Care to elaborate?
I would post that one Tumblr post, but people (including myself) have been banned for that in the past. Sorry, not worth it.
But people who call themselves "fans" have said very deplorable things about him and his work. As for why ... don't ask me. But read the Cutie Honey thread on /m/ and tell me why some people behave that way.
Interesting post, however I stll find devilman crybaby good as a modern adaptation. I liked its animation as well and I thought it was a stylistic choice. I agree that some of the themes were lost in the process but some key scenes were portrayed better in crybaby. I will check this fan controversy that you have mentioned and see how deep this rabbit hole goes.
I have seen the previous devilman anime adaptations and I can safely tell that none of them is a good adaptation of the original material. Crybaby, whether you like it or not, is the only complete anime adaptation of the devilman franchise.
>Crybaby, whether you like it or not, is the only complete anime adaptation of the devilman franchise.
Complete adaptation of he Devilman franchise? There's more to it than just the original manga so no, it's not.
>I have seen the previous devilman anime adaptations and I can safely tell that none of them is a good adaptation of the original material.
Well, there's a point we can agree on! Yes, none of them were really good as far as adaptations go. Most other Nagai franchises have had more luck there.
They all have their own strength and weaknesses, of course, and it is possible to ignore that they are adaptations and just rate them as original works themselves. What struck me about Crybaby was that it seemed to openly and frankly disregard the manga in most aspects. Moreso than any Devilman before.
It has the best version of Ryo
Yes if you think that turning the only complex character of the story into a generic yandere is a good change.
So fellas, devilman vs cyborg 009 is worth watching?
I can't hear you over the sound of you sucking dick
It's about 85% 009 and 15% Devilman, so if you like Cyborg 009 then sure.
