I've said before that I'd make this thread, so here it is.
May 27th. First anniversary of the episode today! And damn is it a good one. Just finished rewatching it, once more.
Of course, for me it's mainly about Tarantula, and it's a great opportunity for me to celebrate her. Eat things she'd eat, drink things she'd drink (she has a sweet tooth, likes fruity flavours, but also some bitter earthy stuff), made some okonomiyaki with red cabbage and a fruity sauce, worked surprisingly well. And apple juice. She loves apple juice. Pic related.
Also thought about her a lot. I love her so much.

But, hey, I also always notice new things about the episode itself: This time some more parallels it drew between Tarantula and Honey. Great stuff. Might post about that later. And maybe a bit about the Seiji/Natsuko relationship that the manga never had but that really adds to Universe.
And maybe post a few Tarantula things.
As usual, feel free to discuss anything else Cutie Honey.

Oh, also, thread theme:

Enjoy!

I'll start with a quick comment on the Seiji/Nat-chan thing I alluded to:
It's pretty much the same big-brother relationship he has with Honey, offering advice and a shoulder to lean on. But where Honey tried to be independent, Nat-chan actively seeks his advice.

Many people, including reviewers, seem to see Seiji as a mere side-character, as incompetent and ineffective. Yet I don't see any of that. In moments like these, he really shines, is highly dependable and supportive. And Universe gives him way more authority and character than any other Cutie Honey before. Episodes 7, 8 and 11 are pivotal to this.

On a meta-narrative level, he provides an outside perspective, which is kinda funny when you think about it. Follow the ethical/moral interpretation where Honey, Jill, Tarantula and Zora symbolize different aspects of the human nature, Seiji is very non-ethical symbol. Not saying that he's a-moral as a character. That's not the case, he does have a "moral compass". But he's not a character through which morality is ever explored. Nor is he a comedic relief like so many others. He simply is relatable, himself ofteb being a third party, a viewer of the events that unfold.

do you know the theme that plays during that red and white scene after the school girls were getting massacred?

That should be "Requiem of Gold", also in the OST. Part of a trilogy of somewhat similar melodic pieces (the other two being "Burning Roses" and "Missing").

Here:

That whole soundtrack CD is definitely worth it.

guess I'll torrent

Well ... understandable, considering the astronomic import costs from Japan. But if you ever receive a shipment from there, adding in the CD is a great way of supporting the composer. Just saying.

will definitely consider since I am able to buy things now

I wonder what the next iteration of Cutey Honey will be like, and when said iteration will be released.

1973 Cutie Honey
1994 New Cutie Honey
1997 Cutie Hooney Flash
2004 Re Cutie Honey
2017 Cutie Honey Universe

>when said iteration will be released.
There is a good chance that there will be something in 2023. Fiftieth anniversary. Not necessarily an anime, but it is certainly possible.

>a pachinko machine

>a pachinko machine
It just got one. Not a bad one either from what I've seen. I really want them to make a PC version of that one. Because there's no way I can ever import a 50-kilogram-pachinko-machine.

While I'm at it, posting the thing I cleaned that pic up for.

And some of the cleaned up manga pics. Just because.

>spider
instantly beheaded or crushed.

Not in this anime.
(And if you treat spiders that way, you deserve all the insects you get in summer.)

what about daddy long legs?

Not my preferred type of arachnids, but I'd still side with them against bugs and flies.

Posting these stitches now. Most of which I made recently for the thread on /m/ when someone asked for it.

That's because they're not arachnids. They are bugs, though. Just like spiders.

>That's because they're not arachnids.
Of course they are. What else would they be?

>They are bugs, though. Just like spiders.
Unless you uaw a very wide and colloquial definition of "bug", bugs are a sub-type of insects. Spiders are never insects. Hence, spiders are not bugs.

Arachnids have two distinct body parts.

So do "Daddy Long Legs" (Pholcidae). They are arachnids. You can look that up practically everywhere.

Has it really been that long? I thought CHU came out last year

>I thought CHU came out last year
It did. Not the same guy, but it probably was a typo. I personally tend to always do that for 1973. I don't know how often I've accidently claimed that the manga came out in 1972 or 1974.

Ayyo famalamadingsongs. How goes the uncensored Universe BDs, any news?

Does this qt survive in any of the series? She died at the end of Universe iirc

>How goes the uncensored Universe BDs, any news?
Yes. There's going to be an uncensored international release (including an English dub, as if anyone cared for that).
Way more affordable than the Japanese release. And there's even a "Premium Edition" with (nearly) all the extras:

>rightstufanime.com/Cutie-Honey-Universe-Blu-ray

>rightstufanime.com/Cutie-Honey-Universe-Premium-Box-Set-Blu-ray

I assume that torrents will appear once it's out. But the purchase is definitely worth it anyway!

(And the Flash subs also seem to be coming along, albeit slowly.)

>Does this qt survive in any of the series?
She arguably survives in the original manga (1973). Nagai's "Gekiman Cutie Honey" supports that interpretation.
She also survives in "Cutie Honey a GoGo" (2004), which was never properly finished. And she's also way more "White Tarantula" there, more ruthless.
She also survives the manga she first appeared in, "Animal Kedaman" (1972). As well as the semi-official "Ooedo Honey" manga one-shot (2012).

See pic related.

Thanks, great chart

No problem. We do tend to help each other out in Cutie Honey threads, and it's not as if questions like that don't come up every now and then anyway.

>I also always notice new things about the episode itself: This time some more parallels it drew between Tarantula and Honey.
Oh, yeah, just remembered that I wanted to write something about this as well. Not some big reveal or anything, but I hadn't noticed before that both Honey and Tarantula talk about Jill in their conversations with Nat-chan (Tarantula very indirectly, of course). And that in those moments, both of them trust in her and believe in Jill's capacity to be a good person that cares about them, respectively. Honey, of course, more naively.

All of that plays nicely in the parallels drawn between them in episode 9 (and the whole series, honestly), where Jill plays them both.
And Jill's rather misinformed "just as pure as Honey" comment.

Do you have the ED if you're still here, user? I can only find the tv size.

This is the one I used for those stitches:
>files.catbox.moe/rsmuca.mp4

Not perfect either, but relatively good quality and creditless.
I don't have the OP in comparable quality though.

Thanks.

As I am posting stitches, have this "old" one as well.
Maybe I should remake the Universe ones, now that I have BluRay quality available ...

>And the Flash subs also seem to be coming along, albeit slowly
Nice. I still haven't started Flash. I've fallen off the boat recently with anime, theres a few seasonal shows I'm barely keeping up with but since the winter fucked off it's been gogogo.

How've you been? What have you been watching.

Attached: white_full.png (1280x1201, 668K)

What have you been watching.
Well, I'm also not watching that much right now. Mainly adaptatitions of manga I've read and liked, like One Punch Man or Kimetsu no Yaiba. But neither anime is too inovative or taking any rsiks, so I'm not really watching live or following the threads for them.

>I still haven't started Flash.
Well, if you want to and find the time, the guy subbing them is called "ImperialSympathizer" and releases Flash as "Cutey Honey Flash" (with "ey"). Still missing episodes 10-19 and the last four episodes.
I guess I'll start making these threads about Flash once he's done, so people can (re)watch it together.

>called "ImperialSympathizer" and releases Flash as "Cutey Honey Flash"
... on nyaa, I should add.

>One Punch Man or Kimetsu no Yaiba
We talked about OPM last time we chatted in a 3x3. What do you think of KnY? The first episode didn't really grab my attention, but it's apparently very popular and well received right now.

>What do you think of KnY?
Well, I do vastly prefer the manga, but that's just how I usually roll, being able to go at my own pace and such things. It is a reasonably good adaptation though, it just doesn't seem to add anything.
I do agree that the early chapters/episodes don't really grab one's attention; I found that it gets more entertaining later on, especially when it starts giving the villains backstories. Still, it's far from perfect, far from being a personal favourite as well. I do like it enough though to, more or less, follow it, albeit not as religiously as some other manga.

This one I should definitely redo, considering the BluRay "added detail".

Posting these pixel-art sprite-sheets I made again.

full version:
>files.catbox.moe/bjbni3.png

(Working on the 90s' manga version right now ... which is a bit tricky. I have no experience with six-legged-spider-hyprid anatomy and it fucks up the perspective.)

>honey vs abashiri ikka
now that's something I wasn't expecting

And here's the current WIP. Like I said, I'm not quite satisfied with it yet.
I'm also really quite into this version (which not even really the same character). But, hey, for completeness' sake.

One of the many Nagai crossovers of that era (about 10 years ago). You can find raws here:

By the way: Pic related is the full extent of the Panther Claw cameo in that manga.
(You can find the higher-quality scans in the same MEGA archive, in the "Shin Mazinger Shogeki! Super H Hen" book.)

Okay, last bump from me.
Thanks everyone for your company on that special day. Really enjoyed our exchanges.
I love you all! Tarantula loves you all!

(As this thread was a bit irregular, not really one of the monthly ones, I guess I'll make a regular "Legacy" thread next Sunday, albeit a shorter one than usual. See you there, maybe.)
