Because Sorachi had settled an end date with Shounen Jump but then when it arrived hadn't actually ended the series yet, but they already had a new series to replace it. So, it go moved to a special annual issue and then to an online app to release the remaining chapters.

But Silver Soul has been the best shounen arc ever made, and timeskip was great, until Sorachi ran out of ideas and is now just repeating the same exact fight again but now without the hype... Everything should have been over with the story of Gintoki and young Shouyo just living in this new world they created.

I too hate a series, not for reasons such as its writing being weak or its art being bad or any reason I can actually make an argument for, but because of its fanbase and the people who read it! We're so special right user?

Everything up until Utsuro reappearing again was fairly solid. I don't know why Sorachi would attempt to travel down that path again.

I still think this is going to get followed by some kind of Gintama Z. Would they really create an entire app just to host gintama as it ends? I figure they'd just start a new series on there.

Nah the app had been in service for a few months before these final chapters. Pretty much able to read all 700+ chapters + a couple of free anime episodes. It's actually a fairly nice database for Gintama stuff.

Awesome because I don't watch it and thought it was trash. I didn't like the whole comedy routine with bits of seriousness mixed into it. It should have just stayed serious or gone full comedy, not both.

I heard it has it's moments of cool fights and what not, but it's like it was trying to be some random comedy show with all these jokes thrown in and I couldn't take it seriously or get into it.

Utsuro was the shonen serious route for the manga but I still feel something went wrong with the character as the final boss. Probably Sorachi put too much emotional weight, the trope of the big bad being emotionally tied to MC doesn’t work in a comedy like this, somehow it cut a lot of freedom to Gintoki, and almost destroyed Shinsengumi’s dynamic as the secondary “character”, if we assume Kagura and Shin work as part of the MC cast.
Maybe the biggest problem was Sorachi created so many memorable characters, and tried hard to made them shine in the last arc but ended being just a parade of panels with no development.

This is one of the manga that deserves some analysis about what went wrong, because is a fact something went wrong. But is hard to grasp it right now.

I say both but if you don't want that I say all the anime until Farewell Shinsengumi and then jump into the manga, BNP killed the Gintama anime(though the episode of All vs Utsura was one of the best episodes of the entire series).

Anime is fine. As far as I know they only skipped one chapter. Though my recommendation is to take it easy and don't force yourself to watch it unless you really feel like it. You can watch something else in between an episode or come back later. The dumb faggots that always get burnt out are the ones that ask WHEN DOES IT GET GOOD and get angry once they force themselves to watch it until that point.

Manga is drawn by a gorilla, no one likes the artwork.

Hopefully it ends on a good note and doesn't further contribute to the fucking collapse of this manga after Silver Soul.

Well the real reason I wanted to watch/read Gintama was because of the silver soul arc which is constantly praised as one of the best shonen arcs. I watched the first few episodes and the first story episodes (benizakura) and read manga till benizakura.
As I said, the artwork wasn't too good in the manga. Also I don't have time to watch nearly 400 eps of the anime. But I also don't want to miss out on Silver Soul.
Also for some reason, the Gintama anime is always highly rated on MAL. Is there a specific reason? Because it's not nearly as good as similarly ranked anime.

Eh? The level of quality has been about the same as the past few years, for whatever that's worth. I guess it makes Sorachi and his editors look dumb for not being able to accurately plot out how many chapters would really be required, or for allowing several chapters to be wasted on space gorillas (and yet that is an extremely Gintama thing!).

i guess it's because overall if its not a top tier show, it is stilla pretty solid show that never falls too low
the battle arcs are very acceptable shonen wise and the comedic episodes are even better

Takasugi and Oboro managed to trick Utsuro with mental illusions (it helped that Takasugi stabbed himself to weaken and lose blood)

Battle is over, last chapter is going to be an epilogue, and that worries me, there is no way in hell he is going to give a satisfactory conclusion to SO MANY characters in a single chapter, it's going to pretty much end on a "our fight still continue" note, which Gorilla previously mocked.

It's kinda funny he became what he mocked, the same thing happened to Toriyama,Togashi, Kishimoto and even Nisio and Kubo. I truly feels like hte only one who gets to end their serie the way they want to is Oda because he is their golden goose, they're treating him like an american over there now that he's the biggest contributor, really glad the world trigger author got out of that place

Fuck off, it's precisely because of my love for Gintama that I've been kinda disappointed with Silver Soul, I've never liked the huge Gintoki wank the serious arc have, the emotional moments feel very forced, the action cannot decide whether it's supposed to be humans at their best or low level dragon ball fights with swords, Gintoki's damage taking capabilities especially is absurd.
But I still love it a lot, the anime is my top 3 anime of all time material. I just feel somewhat disappointed when things feel not as good.
Katsura never even met Utsuro properly.
This would be a much much bigger deal if Sorachi hadn't trolled us with fake endings multiple times by now.

I think it's always following a series weekly that burns people out quickly. This half assed pacing of releases is in Gintama's favor. Marathoning manga and anime is always a more pleasant experience.

it really shows in how ongoing readers had alot to compalin about the silver soul arc but by the time it was over/the anime adapted it the reception was pretty much all around posititve with the only big complaints not being the writing itself but the anime's shoddy production quality.
