There's nothing really to complain about, but I really like this series so I will admit I am biased. They did delay production by a month so people ended up getting it at the same time as vol. 5's release but there's no way they would have fit v.5 art inside. One thing to worry about is that after a single flip through this thing is already leaving creases from the stress of its own weight.

Let's do some post purchase rationalization. This book is B4 JP paper size which means it's printed exactly twice as large as most doujin or magazines and compared to large doujin/artbooks you can just see the pics I took earlier. If I'm not misunderstanding anything then this is the same original size that the art was drawn on. Compared to the magazine release you get better paper/ink and 'twice' the detail of the same art (I use twice quite liberally but as long as it's scanned and printed at the comparable dpi there's no real distortion). The tank obviously fixes any of the quality issues one would have with the mag release but reduced to an even smaller size (now 1/4 the original). If visual quality is what you are aiming for this is basically top tier, nothing will beat it.
While it does have close to 200 pages a good chunk of those aren't art and are only notes. Adding on to that you 'lose' some more page count because a lot of pages aren't double sided. I don't believe there was much art from the limited editions of the manga and again nothing from vol. 5 so it does suck if you're a completionist. From a rational point of view this definitely does not have 20k yen worth of content. You can count the aftermarket price of obtaining the various store bonuses (shishiki, etc) that are included in this book but it still isn't enough to rationally say this book has a great amount of content for the price. Rather than approach it from that angle I can consider the fact that I've paid $40-50 for some doujin/artbooks in the standard B5 24p. It is easier to rationalise the price as opportunity cost if you consider it being worth 4-5 books that you really want and would pay above retail for a used copy. Now not everyone likes dead trees that much so I can't fault you if you find this way too expensive in fact logically I agree. Way more niche than a normal artbook, if you were expecting the manga equivalent of genga then this is perfect for you.

I don't know much about book binding but just comparing it to stuff I have on hand (mostly textbooks/encyclopedia) it seems to be good quality. The paper is very good quality I want to say as thick as cardstock but it might be a bit less. Definitely more stiff than something like bristol board. Even the overlaying plastic is decent quality; they do stick to the pages but might be static. I do worry a bit as the pages are not glossy or laminated so there's a chance it will yellow with time and heat/humidity. Ink seems pretty standard for an artbook and I'd say the only times you'd see halftones is if you're paying attention to rough line art/hand written text. I actually tried looking at the color pages and had a really hard time picking it out so there's a chance it's printed at higher than 300 dpi. No qc issues that I've spotted on my copy and domestically it was shipped in the same box you can see in my first post but with another layer of bubble wrap outside. Survived international shipping just fine. There were like 2 small nicks on the jacket but that's probably from me taking it out of the plastic case. The case is kinda shitty but if I dont have to handle a 2kg book everytime I dust then I can live with it. I don't exactly have cgc tier autism and encase everything I own in a slab or the nip idealogy of the box is damaged it is ruined but I am marginally happier when stuff arrives undamaged (pic related). Really happy with both the print quality and the fact that it has a hardcover. With that I've pretty much covered everything. Kind of fun to compare to your pre purchase fap logic but I guess this review may have ended up too long.

Admittedly, the old system was rather ghetto and you needed to manually type in the amount it said on the card, but now all you need is the tracking number.

I could see this as a temporary thing while you're dusting or whatever elsewhere in the room to keep it clean. You'd need the plastic to be perfectly smooth for this to even have a chance to look okay otherwise, though.

What irritates me about this picture is the fact that he didn't try to use a hair dryer to straighten out the folds in the plastic wrap. It takes all of 7 minutes to do (3 of those minutes are plugging in a hair dryer), makes the whole thing look a lot nicer and he just didn't do it.
