ITT: anime that were quickly forgotten

And we discuss why they were forgotten, and (if applicable) why they flopped.

soultaker. nobody talks about it. no idea why. I found it hypnotizing visually.

It did somehow spawn a magical girl spinoff though, which is a mindfuck.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 37K)

I honestly don't know why Yea Forums forgot about this show.

Attached: 1529664426790.jpg (1920x1080, 145K)

Oh, and the director of this later made madoka magica. He always made a whole fuckload of other shit, but you can really see early madoka themes and concepts in soultaker.

It also has a lot of character design similarities to *monogatari. One of the heroines is identical to hitagi. Can't really find a good pic but here she is.

Attached: kjkj.jpg (477x268, 16K)

Vikang girl a best
Yeah I thought that first pic was literally Senjougahara for a sec

To this day I still find it weird that Momo's VA didn't get another main role after Spyce ended

Attached: g1K0GFE.jpg (1920x1080, 312K)

Wasn't enough yuri.

It's the EXACT same character design. Here's another one of her. I know there is a full version of this image because I used it as fap material sixteen years ago, but I can't find it.

Attached: 108921.jpg (225x230, 26K)

Kobato's one.

It's a CLAMP thing, released after they started to turn to self-cannibalizing mush.

It's not really surprising it flopped. It's a mishmash of typical CLAMP elements: pure-hearted girl, bittersweet star-crossed romance, nonsensical cosmology, cute but fierce mascot who is secretly a being of extraordinary power.

That said, I have a huge soft spot for this series. It's a better Cardcaptor Sakura sequel than Clear Card by far, if it's not.

Attached: Kobato_cast.jpg (1024x696, 150K)

Why are there two Chiis there?

Still my favorite anime of that season. The OP and ED are both really good.

Pokemon Chronicles.
In 2002, a 22 episode official pokemon series was created starring side characters from S1 of the pokemon anime. It was dubbed and aired in the US, but never received a dvd release over here. The brits and the aussies got one, however.

So there's basically a season 1.25 of Pokemon, one of the most popular anime of all time, that americans have probably never seen or heard of.

Sorry to samefag the thread. Hope this stuff is interesting to somebody.

Attached: Pokemon_Chronicles.png (270x130, 39K)

>kill character
>character appears again at the end
>All was according to keikaku and i have survived
>all is good in the world nothing was lost and everyone is happy

Stupid tsubasa chronicles multiverse shit. At some point CLAMP stopped wanting to make new shit and just keep selling audiences their old shit mixed together in new ways. It's not even really justified in Kobato, nor is it addressed.

Dunno how much of original chobits you watched but suffice it to say chi has a sister. The woman in between them might be familiar too, she's the chobits protag's landlady.

Attached: 20161101191940.jpg (1024x576, 254K)

Start posting titles with your replies, you fucks. I'm trynna build a queue here

>suffice it to say chi has a sister

Attached: what.jpg (225x225, 6K)

Nah, it has threads periodically.

Scorching ping pong girls, a moe sports anime with emphasis on the sports part. This anime knows what it is and what it isn't, which allows it to focus on parts that make it stronger as a whole. It also has a killer electrostep soundtrack.

>people who watched for Takahiro got about 8 solid episodes of nothing happening
>people who watched for Namori had the last 3 episodes ruined with jarringly serious drama
>the ending managed to piss off just about everybody by being extremely poorly thought out and not committing to anything
Not to mention the audience here had pretty high expectations after a year of good all girls action shows.

why would you want that?
there's a good reason these shows were forgotten

Attached: gg.jpg (1280x720, 138K)

Forgotten by who?

>by who
By whom. Forgotten by whom, user.

Would have been kino if Mei really was a traitor

Attached: 1538556269058.jpg (1280x720, 95K)

That show was milquetoast as fuck. It simply had zero emotional impact. I watched the whole thing only as a courtesy due to it being in a seasonal line-up of select shows shared among some friends, and it was the least interesting show week over week. I don't care how best girl the fucking cat is, the show is predictable and egregiously straightforward. It presents us with a plot in which a main character miraculously manages to develop despite nothing of emotional value being conveyed to the viewer (as in, by the end of it, the MC is better for the journey, but I, the viewer, am not).

I totally forgot it

ZLS was one of the best CGDCT to come out in a while but nobody talks about it

Attached: sakura cheek.jpg (1156x1080, 353K)

>nobody talks about it
Really? Where have you been the last few months? Not on Yea Forums , apparently.
The only reason we don't have a thread up at all times is that trolls started to come to those threads complaining about them being too frequent. (And a certain spammer.)

eh, I barely ever see threads and the ones I do see don't get many replies

Attached: sakura spray.png (1280x720, 685K)

That's because you don't pay enough attention. ZLS threads usually reach the bump limit. After Saki's birthday thread one-and-ahalf weeks ago people collectively decided to lay low for a while, which might be for the best in the long run. Because the weeks before that, we've had shitposters ruin the threads. Don't worry, there will be more threads soon, but right now, no one wants to risk it.

Attached: 88D1B4A0-FCC3-4187-984B-2AC6345E68BE.jpg (640x360, 29K)

I don't understand why either. A shame this happened as those uniform were really memorable.

Attached: 1507114930369.jpg (403x600, 119K)

I didn't forget about it. There's just 3-4 good new shows each season and I only have so much time to waste on Yea Forums, so I rarely talk about the older shows.

>memorable
Yeah because they’re fucking retarded

Also don't forget that the anime's OP and ED were excellent too. Still listen to both regularly.

Spyce was a solid 6/10. On par with or slightly better than Toji no Miko, which probably is one of the shows you had in mind. What was so poorly thought out about the ending? The story was concluded. You can complain about the way that was done but objectively speaking, both the grimdark option and what we actually got would be pretty equal in quality. By making Yuki stay dead and Mei be a traitor the positions would just be reversed; people who wanted that would be satisfied and the rest would bitch the same. Personally I liked what we got.

Will Momo's VA ever get a new main role ever again? Other than those mobage adaptations that are already on the pipeline, but she hasn't been cast in a new main role since then.

I didn't really care about whether it went with the double agent or traitor route. My main issue was that they went so far down the traitor route that it felt retarded when they revealed the switch.
As far as I recall she had hours in the room with all the people they wanted to capture and a timer counting down to that thing activating. The plan to gather all that organisation together was decent enough but didn't she end up fighting the rest of them when they got there?
I can't recall any benefit to that entire section of the plan aside from letting everything go to the last second for the sake of drama.

Attached: Science Is Power.jpg (276x265, 9K)

Attached: FFE3EF4A-D121-4AED-979F-E4A5C2E3260E.jpg (250x353, 20K)

It's funny how SoulTaker completely died off the face of the internet because most people considered it awful, while the magical girl spin-off was one of the most popular anime to come out of the early 2000s to the point 2chan still references it today and we still have banners about it here.
Has there ever been another case where the comedy spin-off overshadowed the original to the point barely anybody acknowledges the original existed to begin with?

Attached: komugi moe.jpg (640x480, 318K)

After seeing what happened to the VA in KKK I've learned to accept that even promising seiyuu can end up disappearing after doing pretty much only one role.

Attached: Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku - 09 [1080].mkv_snapshot_22.28.jpg (1920x1080, 1021K)

My issue with Spyce wasn't the writing itself since I was watching it for the characters anyway, but the inconsistent tone and the sometimes jarring transition between the silly parts and the supposedly serious parts. I actually blame the directing more than anything.

You will have to rephrase that in a different way because I have no idea what you are complaining about.
Double agent/traitor stuff is a common trope in spy stories with the twist often happening at the last second. See many examples in western movies. Spyce is exactly that so I don't think this is a valid reason for criticism.
Mei never uncovered the whole plan because she was never told the full extent thereof, so she couldn't have done much more than she did. The fact that the doomsday device was on the other side of the city was unknown to her and just bad luck or good think on the part of the bad guys. Obvously it would be guarded. There was no reason to drop her act, anyway, because she didn't know until the very last second.
I mean people are free to complain but usually it's just a dissatisfaction with how the traitor plot turned out or some weird complaints about some tonal disparity or whatever, which I don't really understand. Many spy movies are the same, both goofy and serious at the same time. Just look at Brosnan's Bond movies. It feels like one guy voiced his opinion on this matter and then some people just picked it up and kept parroting it without thinking, as is often the case with Yea Forums.

Ded manga

Ah, here we go.

I was one off the 5 that watches the newest one of nurse witch.

Not exactly comedy, but Nanoha was originally a spin-off of a hentai game right?

>There was no reason to drop her act, anyway, because she didn't know until the very last second.
I just don't see what extra information she was expecting to get from MCing at that event to the last second.
She clearly had the information she'd need at least 30 min before it started and surely she would have been more useful fighting alongside them at that point.

Attached: [HorribleSubs] Release the Spyce - 11 [1080p].mkv_snapshot_20.21_[2019.05.27_12.43.19].jpg (1920x1080, 226K)

>On par with or slightly better than Toji no Miko
Uh, no. What held Toji no Miko back were the dips in visual quality. It actually followed through on the story and themes it set up and didn't shy away from killing off characters. Spyce didn't have a single memorable or compelling character while Toji had a handful.

Which characters kicked the bucket?

>Spyce didn't have a single memorable or compelling character
Momo? Yuki?

Did we ever find out how Momo's dad kicked the bucket? It was implied that it had to do with those criminals Tsukikage were fighting right? Or did I misinterpret that?

Yume and Yomi

I'm not bothered by the traitor plot at all, but I am bothered by the brothel episode for example, having drugged prostitutes than casually back to silly jokes causes tonal whiplash.
Spyce killed Nagaho as well.

Who?

Potatololi.

I remember

COMING IN COMING OUT

Attached: kokkoku-1-3.png (1920x1080, 2.14M)

Nanoha is not quite a comedy spinoff, but I assure you nobody gives a ferret's ass about Triangle Heart.

At least Senbongi Sayaka made a miraculous comeback.

False, nobody who went through L&M would ever forget it.
River edit thread best thread of the season

Why did the other VAs disappear anyway? It's unusual for almost all of a show's cast to disappear into thin air right?

Senbongi doesn't even seem to be doing much anymore either, last I remember her was her Aho Girl role.

By droping her act, Mei would loose access to the base, ability to move around freely and an opportunity to take out everyone present and potentially thwart the whole plan but she didn't know that was impossible at the time.
Toji no Miko earned my irrational hate by having too many scenes wherein a character resolves to do something serious and every other present character decides to join them by responding with a nod and an
>un
>un
>un while tearing up
>un
while the camera zooms at each of their faces separately. I know it's very specific and petty but it never fails to make me mad and itchy by how terrible and pathetic these kinda scenes are. And I also remember feeling embarrassment at some dialogues and lines. Just some problems with the show that come to my mind.

98.65% of people will never forget the ACE though.

This, precisely.

Here's my expert opinion (sample size of 1): Endro was great, I dropped Spyce halfway through.

Toji no Miko is a poor man's YuYuYu, which is a poor man's Madoka. At least it wasn't as bad as Soushin Shoujo Matoi.

It was never really that popular here to begin with. It was a cute show though.

I still don't get why the show's fans defend this. I mean, this was an important plot point that never got resolved, and yet the people who liked the show are okay with it?

why would they

People are okay with it because the show's message was about moving on, you dolt. If oyu fail to understand the show's point the problem lies with you and not the fans.

Exactly specifying what happened to him wasn't needed. What mattered was the effects on Asuka and how she dealt with that.

Not enough edge. And Princess principal already did a better job of SUPAI DESU.

Too bad Trigger was retarded enough to bring hetshit to your daughter's shit show which basically killed it. Even without it, it would've been shit anyway.

Namori doesn't seem to be the same badass yuri author that she was before. She doesn't even know what yuri is anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if her next yuri will be inspired by Hibike or Idolmaster. It would be like Yuru Yuri with pure yuribait and a male self-insert and male love interests.

(yo/u/)

>It would be like Yuru Yuri with pure yuribait
so Yuru Yuri

None of these series being brought up are written by her.
If you care about anything she was involved in Puipui would put her down as originally making het romance, well before she did any yuri.

Attached: db7a7e92c25f896076e8c8fcaa6972ae.jpg (955x764, 583K)

Fuck no, it's a solid 2/10. Nothing in the anime made any sense. The characters didn't, the plot didn't, the technology didn't. How are they invisible to cameras but the main things they fight are robots? Was there ANY point to the betrayal? Why would they need to erase their memories after leaving Tsukikage? Would that also magically erase your identity from the bad guys' database? Why would they even need to leave Tsukikage? Why is Fuu poor? They have giant underground facilities. Why don't they have any workers? No one ran the cafe while Katrina was still in school. Where are all the people that should exist??

It's like they didn't think any of this stuff through. It's Jojo levels of writing. The lengths they go not to kill someone only to turn around and kill someone else is also jarring. If it was a really silly spy show for kids, I would ignore the gaps in logic. I would also enjoy the lighthearted tone more. But half of the runtime is edge and drama, and the other half is retarded. There didn't need to be so many "twists," especially when they're so insignificant to the story that they get resolved off-screen or are completely ignored!

Seriously, poor Fuu. She just gets treated like shit.

It's just an old ass anime that was very popular when it came out but everyone moved on after no new content for years. Same with Haruhi.

>Flopped because of useless pricks and shit traps
Well fucking deserved. This was an insult to Kirara along with Sansha Sanyou

just saw multiple articles saying that the release date for the season which will finish the series is expected this year. Invisible victory released like a year ago and from what I've seen it's been good. Kind of strange that it got forgotten considering I remember seeing some of it when I was pretty young. Maybe the long release dates between seasons and not enough marketing caused it to be niche

Sagrada Reset. I miss the autistic couple.

>Maybe the long release dates between seasons and not enough marketing caused it to be niche
That plus everyone who cared eventually decided to just read the LNs and didn't feel like checking out the new anime.

never understood how people prefer LN's. You don't get the music, moving pictures, voice acting and sound effects which if well done enhance the experience for me so much. I only really read non fiction though so to each there own I guess.
