Even food and inanimate objects come to life and try to kill people. Killing Reinhard is not the problem, it's permanently killing him that is the problem. He receives his blessings from Od Laguna, destroying it means no new blessings or Ainz could seal him, as long as he receives new blessings he is unkillable unless some spell Ainz uses kills him for good, after all, he can only receives blessings that exist in the world, so he can't counter everything like when he asked for a blessings to damage someone that was invulnerable.

Reinhard is able to be hit, but you have to use an ability which his blessings don't recognize. I'm pretty sure they don't work quite right against Witch powers, but Reinhard is still too awesome for them to kill him unless he lets it happen. Word of God is that Reinhard is still the best fighter in the world even without his blessings.

Ayamatsu Subaru would have been fun

Reinhardt gets his revive back eventually. His Phoenix Blessing basically has a cooldown. He can't use it consecutively, but he gets it back after a while.

They don't work against Authorities because Authorities are meant to always beat Blessings iirc.

Reinhard really just seems to be part of the whole "fate" narrative, being a fated hero who is more resigned to the task than desirous of it, and who feels he has no real choice in the matter. Reinhard's not a very happy person. His grandmother died because her Sword Saint blessing transferred to him, so now he feels it's his responsibility. His grandfather hates him for it, his father is a jealous drunkard, and his mother's been in a coma since he was 2. Almost none of his friends actually understand him, and most assume he can't even relate to normal people.

Much of what he does is just going through the motions, while he does what he thinks he should or is supposed to do. In his sidestories, Felt refers to his smiles as mostly being disgusting fakes. Only occasionally does he show genuine emotion.

The LN is terrible compared to the WN

To deliver context without hyperbole, one of the major differences between WN and LN Arc 4 is the presence of magic rocks that teleport Subaru between plot points, cutting out some cool scenes. In the WN, teleportation was very rare magic that only a very few could pull off.

Imagine if Subaru didn't walk from the cave carrying Rem's body, but was teleported directly to the mansion without her. That's the kind of thing the LN did.

But it gets the basic gist, just start on the interludes between Arc 3 and 4 if you're gonna read it.

It's pretty much the same with most LNs that had WNs though. Shield Hero, Overlord, Youjo Senki, etc.
Editors are pretty important especially if you're someone used to just getting away with writing whatever you want without any quality control.
The main problem comes with picking the right editor though since if you pick the wrong one you end up with shit like the Re:Zero LN.

The WN has some fun parts to it, but it really feels incredibly amateur for sure. I think it's a lot closer to its actual D&D routes. As in it very much seems like a scenario that a group of friends would come up with, just having fun.

It does have one great thing going for it: it's missing Albedo.

Well, I will try to give as accurate an opinion of the LN/WN differences in Re:Zero. In the beginning, Tappei's inexperience is much clearer. He was fairly terrible at character introductions, IMHO, and hadn't quite figured out who he wanted everyone to be.

Subaru's personality is more Subaru in general, with both lighthearted and dark moments being more accentuated. WN Subaru is somehow both sillier and edgier, more impulsive and contemplative, more closed off and bolder in expression, than his LN counterpart. Anime Subaru is the most toned down. WN Emilia actually has some personality and throws a snowball at Subaru during the Arc 3 scene when he declares himself to be her knight, and her fight scene with the one Geuse was a less clean affair. No "thank you for letting me beat you".

The WN also often has Subaru figure out solutions to problems, whereas the LN just hands him the solution by pure luck to save time. For instance, in Arc 3 WN Subaru actually figures out how to smuggle himself into the royal meeting. In the LN, Priscilla finds him on the street and brings him in because she thinks it'd be fun. LN Arc 4 takes this to the extreme with magic rocks and other plot tools that save Subaru the work of actually solving problems on his own, or even having to walk through scenes of devastation.

LN Arc 4 is also changes characterization quite drastically, and cuts a lot of great and horrific scenes, so its themes and atmosphere feel much weaker in general to the point where it's widely regarded as a totally different story despite the general outline being more or less the same. A lot of the bloat is gone and it flows smoother, but Nip readers say it feels like skimming and just not as dark or oppressive.

Well [Gate] has no distance limit and we don't know it's inter-dimensional. he has spells that target the soul or [Black Hole] that literally sucks you away into an unknown place. Problem is, if Reinhard can be granted blessings in that other dimension, after all it isn't him that grants the blessing but a crystal at the centre of his world, that crystal also decides what type, he can be vague about the blessing he wants but Od Laguna is the one that decides

As someone who is now reading through the first three arcs in the LN (before I jump to the WN translations) I can say that Suabru is still plenty scummy. Toned down or not, there are certainly enough moments when I have to stop and process just how much of a dick he is without even realizing it.

The LN is mostly fine up until the end of arc 3. Once it reaches arc 4 the trouble begins

Well, it's not just the magic rocks. By cutting and changing a lot of the Rem stuff, the story doesn't communicate how badly Subaru is doing as well. Especially since the granny shield and clown strangling are cut too. WN Arc 4 has Subaru making an oath to Rem clinging to thoughts of killing Gluttony as his only hope while he holds her hand, while in the LN he doesn't even hold Rem's hand. The scene is instead portrayed as Emilia helping him release his emotions to cry.

That's a very dramatic shift to how Arc 4 is introduced, and the tone set for everything.

Subaru is in fact, the ideal anime MC. Now wait, you may laugh or cringe at my suggestion, but consider this for a moment. Unlike other MCs who usually have it pretty good, his life is miserable. He wasn't dealt the best hand at life, but he tries his best. Subaru is the people's protagonist. He's not some untouchable hero nobody can relate to, he's not some loser who unrealistically has everything end up okay, he's just your average guy who's down on his luck but does everything he can to make things better, even if he doesn't know how. Subaru is truly the people's protagonist. He is truly the most human protagonist. He's desperate, like you and I.

How should someone go with Re:Zero? I saw just the anime to see Isekai Quartet, since it was the only one I had no idea about. But seeing all that stuff intrigued me. Just go with the light novels? Anything else?

If you want to jump to where the anime left off, start with Arc 4. I strongly advise you to start with user's interlude (the part you start with) because his doesn't skip a chapter like Translation Chicken. Translation Chicken's translations are higher quality and more polished than user's but he hasn't finished Arc 4 like user has. Start with user's interlude, then switch to Translation Chicken or just keep with user's like I do. Also user's translation gets way better the farther into the Arc because I guess they were learning as they went.

Emilia is Emilia and her character type and scenes just aren't so great. Shaula is a scorpion, and generally doesn't provide emotional scenes like Rem does.
