Do they pull cards out of their ass, and have random decks with apparently no strategy in mind like yu-gi-oh and basically every other card anime/manga there is? Or do they actually spend time developing strategies before the games, collecting cards etc..?

They often don't show entire games, only the highlights, but the decks seem pretty well thought out to me. Sideboard action and everything.
