Giyuu has far less character time with Shinobu than Tanjirou. She teased him, fought him, and that's it. Giyuu never spoke about feeling like a failure, she never spoke about her sister or her sister's dumbass dream that never gets developed.

I think it's for overall design and aesthetic. First there are many manga that set in Edo period so Taisho era probably make the serie stand out. Second it gives the serie unique atmosphere. Modern yet ancient cause by that time Japan was modernized but at the same time many part of the country still stay the same.

the lack of shown technological advances, it's like looking at the victorian era vs the 1920s. sure there are some overlaps with what they did, but the technological advancements were huge and japan was incredibly modernized during the taisho era. that's how they were able to take over the majority of asia during the early showa era/WW2 period. this setting offers nothing to allude to the modern taisho period minus guns (which were used for over 300 years by that point) and trains (which were used for nearly 100 years by that point).

it just seems like the author wanted to call it taisho for some reason, but then never actually does anything with it and the cool shit that happened during that era and instead makes it another edo period story with a few hints of meiji technology thrown in.
