It's a little bit different, but your point of view isn't incorrect. It's the subtleties of how one sided and drawn out it is and also how it's very down to earth compared to standard flashy DBZ fare. Spopovich vs Videl was nothing like Frieza exploding Krillin or Nappa killing half the good guys, it's like straight up animated domestic violence with Spopovich kicking the absolute shit out of a crying helpless woman for minutes on end.
