Soul vs soulless
Mokuba Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh is easily one of my favorite redesigns. They just cut his hair and gave him a suit and he looks a million times better.
interesting thread, bump
Shut up, Mokuba.
that's less a redesign, and more of an art evolution. Vegeta(and even Goku and Piccolo) changed gradually.
Both looks bad desu
The one on the right looks like Brain.
This
Everyone in db looked better in their early designs
what a downgrade, why is this allowed?
Soul vs soulless
i don't get it. they didn't even look so outdated, and the dude went from manly and mysterious to male prostitute.
>tfw manlets love left because they relate to him and hate right because they are intimidated by him.
I'm sure there will be an explanation eventually on how animals with stands gain human-like characteristics.
Krillin is the designated manlet, Vegeta should've stayed a small wiry guy to contrast better against Goku. By late DBZ and in Super everyone looks like Goku.
where did Killua find lipstick in the middle of the Hunter Exam
LMFAO
Fuck no, Vegeta is the single biggest exception to that.
Left and right are the same. The only thing that changed was Akira Toriyama's style going from slightly round to much more angular.
I feel like it's intentional on Kubo's part, given that Beach changed genre from Urban Spirit Busting Fantasy to Feudal Era After Life.
Fuck, The Cell Arc messed with my sense of perspective. Vegeta without Nappa always seem roughly average height.
i really like his new style and i cant tell why
>Aizen
LMAO
Watching the Fruits Basket anime reminds me how that art went super fucked in the back half. Wonder if the anime will do it too.
What's this from? Image search gives me nothing
>kenpachi
holy fuck
I miss fat Pikachu
manga/LN>novel>anime
The way toriyama added more texture and lines to supersaiyan hair makes a world of difference
Pic related is the ugly original
Makes sense it started that way, given the original reason to make a Super Saiyan's hair a light color was so he had an excuse to not have to ink in Goku's hair all the time.
>Pic related is the ugly original
Better than nasty french fry hair.
my dick
How did she go from this?
>that amount of hair
anyone has that poster of goku, vegeta, frunks and gohan with piccolo on the background? is hilarious how they added a lot of hair on gohan, more than what it has
The whole reboot was bad, but this one in particular was on another level of downgrade.
>ugly
i take that over the static piece of shit lego hair they use now
nowdays it looks like a shitty wig rather than actual hair
to this
damnit i shouldnt be comparing myself to my 7 yo self
The movie probably had the best visuals of any anime movie, but I'm not too fond of the new design.
>one janky frame of animation compared to a still that is deliberately sexualized
It's a puzzlement.
The soul vs soulless meme is true. Jesus Christ
The new body looks better, but her whole head looks so weird.
>redesign
that's a costume change retard, if you're talking about the style then it's different main/key artist and directors
THIS is a redesign, same character same artist but completely different aesthetics to the character
This one show it better.
Weird place to meet another original fatfuck pikachu fan
This one isn't exactly bad.
Also fits the setting much more than original art.
Merle actually looked like a girl cat instead of a cat girl and Van looked like a badass
>nowdays it looks like a shitty wig rather than actual hair
like most Japanese people's hair desu
Reminder that these are VN CGs being compared to TV-anime screenshots.
What vn?
Doesn't the anime use the same artstyle as the VN remake though?
Every single Allen is perfect
I got a figure of that version somewhere in the basement, I used to love it so much.
Someone post some more examples of where the redesigns were actually better. Most of the time, redesigns get shat on for the whole ssoul vs soulless meam.
She looks like a boy in both forms.
Kek.
>That moment when you realized it was a tucked-in shirt and not an onesie
My life felt a lie when I figured that out.
>fucking stage 2
literally gained soul as the story progressed.
They're all shit though, so who cares.
BASED
No amount of soul is going to save Takeuchi art.
The right makes me so fucking mad.
>Hiatus Hell forever
God damn it
>Make a character who's main allure is her brutish, muscular physique.
>Redesign turns her into a boring bimbo.
Great.
Wait, wasn't back on track?
where's the black tip on the tail??
No, it never was slider-kun.
Pucci?
Why did the black guy on the bottom turn into Pucci?
Saiyan Saga and Buu Saga characters are defianetly a redesign you retard.
oof tranny phase in volume 3
to this?
Chopper
On the topic of jojo...
she looks better like this
Feels like there's just better body language on the left.
Pretty curious about how these will be handled in adaptation.
>from stunted midget to regular manlet
valentine isn't a redesign retards, they're all different valentines from different dimensions
the same way they did Iggy
HeIIo reddit, leave and take your headcanon with you. Araki himself acknowledges that the change in appearance was just his style adjusting through the course of SBR, and jokes that Valentine just got in shape very quickly.
DP's been pretty consistent, I reckon they'd keep anasui a woman at the beginning
Manlets who lift
>lego hair they use now
Not anymore if they stick with the designs from the Broly movie.
They fucked up Kakashi's hair
Tamami in part 4 changed proportions, but they just had him show up in the design he had later on, so I assume they'll do the same here.
Holy fuck my sides
>The last panel
The new anime style is actually closer to the original manga. The first anime was actually a redesign.
ngl, the first time I saw the still images I legit though it was a robot chicken skit
Yet all the alternate valentine we see fighting all look the same?
DUDE, PASTEL COLORS
Chipicao-looking motherfuckers
because it's VN CGs vs fucking anime screencaps
Not enough Kinnikuman love on Yea Forums
he looks so cute and so fucking brain dead at the same time
The manga art for this reminds me of those "Learn to draw anime" books
Because RHINICEROS BEETLE
Yeah, but that one is actually an improvement.
This one isn't a terrible redesign, though it is different. She just got thicker is all.
>it was the base of the tail that was dark all along
Now it makes sense. I never thought much about the Mandela meme but it's nice to know where it came from in this case.
When will they learn?
It's not reallyva bad style, is it the colouring? Because it looks like it was done by pencils
Literally soul vs soulless
This one?
Modern nime pikachu is such a downgrade compared to the original design.
But my personal favorite is this one that came with the manual of Red and Blue.
Goku Super Saiyan hair never made sense
The eyes really don't work with the more realistic redesign. They should look more realistically japanese instead of anime. She looks really cute in the anime.
this isn't so bad except for the blur
GODtani is the greatest thing to happen to modern dragonball.
>GODtani is the greatest thing to happen to modern dragonball.
Not really
I would kill to have at least 2008 Yamamuro back. How did he get so much worse?
Overdesigned and blocky. Doesn't look like real hair and is very time-consuming to animate. Just admit that Yamamura has lost his touch. Shintani is literally perfection.
Last one on the right looks nice.
Could he defeat him ?
That's not Yamamuro, you stupid imbecile. You faggot.
It's an animator who worked on Z and said "fuck Yamamuro designs. I'm going back at how Dragon Ball should look like"
Can't find the name of the guy though.
The old anime looks like garbage, which the manga did too so I guess it's a faithful adaptation.
Except even there, Takahashi is still using Yamamuro's design as a base. Takahashi's pen looked great in Broly, so Shintani's designs are extremely flexible to any style.
>Except even there, Takahashi is still using Yamamuro's design as a base
you have to be literally blind
>those poorly designed muscles
>that blocky hair
>shiny plastic skin
>not yama
Are you blind?
>2008 Yamamuro
What the fuck happened?
Vegeta confirmed for gymcel.
That shit deserved to flop. Grimoire was a massive leap in quality for the first time in a while and felt like it was on par with the first 3 seasons. Then they threw that away for some shota bullshit. QB is probably completely dead now.
This isn't a new thing, just the old movie yes?
New shows are too reliant on filters.
And it proved that being rigorously faithful to the original art isn't always the best choice.
Middle looks terrible compared to the left. Does SM's quality diminish later in the series? I didn't make it past S.
Wrong, Vegeta is actually the biggest offender by far
he should use Horn Point as default
you seriously can't see
a redesign implies a character's design has been consciously changed, whereas a lot of these posts are really just the gradual change in an artist's style.
Shintani looks a lot like Maeda. I like it a lot.
OH NO NO NO
I was hoping someone else noticed this. Naruto has become so simplified and soulless compared to when it started. They barely even shade anymore
Why is that shading so shit?
That's Takahashi
The perfect size to be GREENED
Wow, you can really tell how tough of a battle Goku has been through with all those black lines drawn over him!
Toriyama has no sense of scale. Krillin used to be much taller, Vegeta was constantly changing sizes. It's total chaos.
Maybe he just hung upside down in the gravity chamber for a while.
Cool headcanon, bro.
Same. Looks annoying instead of cute to me now.
>getting 10+ years older is a "redesign"
>fat pika
"just another pokemon make him look like a mouse"
>modern pika
"this is our official mascot make it more human to relate to"
they made the boobs shinier
shoujo anime at the time of the old anime were trying hard not to look shoujo-y since even though manga tends to be pretty equal in gender demographics anime was pretty male dominated
now everyone knows this is a shoujo manga what's the point of not going full bishie?
4 adaptions and they couldn't get any of them right
thanks doc
left is a full adult
right is a teenager so of course she's not going to look as refine
Wow, you faggots have no idea what a redesign is
Super Vegeta/USSJ Vegeta and Buu Saga/Majin vegeta are his best looks. It's a toss up between which one was his peak. Super is inferior to both by far. Vegeta looks lame in saiyan armor unless he's completely hulked out like when he was fighting cell. He was a fucking monster. I don't like his twinky, stumpy look he generally has in Super.
stage 1 a best
fuck you, ikuko ito sailor moon is best sailor moon
Nah, having the suit and gloves without the stupid armor just looks better.
not enough in general, it desperately needs a reboot or something to spark interest in the west.
Nah
Make Goku moe again.
This.
The armor is trash, serves no pourpose, and lessens him as a character.
The only reason anyone keeps him in it is for nostalgia bucks.
That Vegeta grew beyond the space farring slave bitch of frieza thing and is now a vetted powerful warrior and king of the capsule corpse.
Even has a new bloodline of powerful galaxy class warriors and geniuses.
fucking kek
That's just a different outfit, the point is that he was better when he was rounder and leaner and shorter, and not a mass of bulging muscles, regardless of what he wore.
There's a reason why no one draws Vegeta like that anywhere.
It looks bad in comparison to how he looks now.
While it looked good within the confines of the series it was from it does not look good when compared to other media of the type. As a matter of fact, toriyama's art style helped define and crystalize the artstyle of a lot of american artists and helped inspire young men to seek fitness and self-improvement.
OG Vegeta just looks like a product of the time.
>It looks bad in comparison to how he looks now.
That's not a reason, that's an opinion, I think the new one looks bad. Early DBZ still felt like DB to a degree, and the only people I see preferring the blocky muscle-y look are people who never watched DB.
I love HxH, but oh god, the quality is real.
wew
I liked that his tail went around his armor in an authentic Saiyan manner, and that he looked retardedly alien in it. After it got cut, his tail was completely fucking forgotten about. Then the Namek saga came around, and the dumb flaps around his armor were gone, even though they looked better.
I guess, but most of those early Z shots of him look like shit. That said, his overall design was good on Namek.
I just prefer both the personality and the look of early Vegeta, I feel like he become too one-note later on, and is constantly brooding.
He's wearing plain blue tights. You know who wears plain blue tights? Clowns, men that practice ballet, and homosexuals. It's worse that he's wearing gloves that don't even match the tights, it's like wearing socks during sex.
It's better that the faulds were taken out since they look like they get in the way more than anything. Wish he kept the cool pauldrons though, but we can blame Bulma for not incorporating them into the design of the new battle armor she made for them post-namek.
How long did you have to practice mental gymnastics to be able to reach that hard?
>I just prefer both the personality and the look of early Vegeta
Only Maeda and Aoshima look any good at all.
>I feel like he become too one-note later on, and is constantly brooding.
Definitely, but that doesn't really have much to do with his design.
Probably the swutch from hand drawn to digital art
There's no mental gymnastics involved here, it's a grown-ass man walking around in plain tights with white gloves that don't even match the tights. With the battle armor the gloves at least matched the armor, but now Vegeta is basically just walking around inviting people to fuck him in the ass with his faggoty clownish outfit -- not something the so-called Prince of 5 Saiyans should be doing.
Stage 5 has to be the worst.
>it's a grown-ass man walking around in plain tights with white gloves that don't even match the tights
It still fits fine with the skin as a buffer. You are reaching.
>With the battle armor the gloves at least matched the armor, but now Vegeta is basically just walking around inviting people to fuck him in the ass with his faggoty clownish outfit
Mental gymnastics.
the reboot it already got with kinnikuman revival?
It’s like when any series goes on, the girls become more like bimbos (even the goddamn tomboys).
no idea why people praise vegeta's design in the buu arc
it was so bland
Not exactly a redesign but just a comparison of style and appearances changing over time
Eh, I'm not too fond of DSoD Mokuba's design.
DSoD Anzu though is fucking hot.
based
You can say whatever about the actual designs (both are generic) but the coloring and general dynamism is completely lost on the right.
Based Maeda.
sauce?
TV doesn't stop you from drawing body language or creating well composed or "shot" scenes.
at least add late part 3
What does the "M" stand for?
No
Alright, but I'm too lazy to add it to the image
I always liked Vegeta's Frieza-saga look, myself.
soul soulless soul soulless
Yah
"Soulless" looks much better
Vegeta looks like a laughable manlet on the left
But he is a manlet
Not everyone needs to look edgy to be imposing
just like always then
Someone post S1-3 DxD vs S4
Mai is like 13 years old during the pilaf arc.
imagine
Based Maeda.
name?
It's more art evolution, but deserves to be posted whenever possible
This is what 20 years of mahjong rape does to a man
Right is too soulless for my eyes.
He didn't drop the armor out of his own will. They didn't allow it in the tournament.
Why do girls look sexy or cute wearing footwear but men look silly?
I like that BT3 acknowledges this. You can see the difference between Goku Mid and Goku End super saiyan forms.
This is peak 2000s wallpaper.
>dio's hermit purple is jonathan's stand bro
Pretty much; every flashback looks wrong because of this. It also applies to the manga; by the end it was just the anime's storyboard.
This was a human rights violation, and there needs to be a trial by firing squad.
The 2008 OVA looked so fucking good compared to Super.
This begging for an edit with with Piccolo's hand on Vegeta's face.
I can't believe S2 came and left just like that and I only saw the first ep. Was it good?
nein
i loved vegetas buu saga outfit. Why the fuck didn't they keep it? Or at the very least make his armor the same as the namek saga one.
Yeah the problem is obviously still composition and framing and colors.
>top 2 one has much better lighting and framing
>2nd is much better lighitng
>3rd is much better framing. She isn't tiny in a car, look at that fucking door handle
>4th is fine
>5 is fine
>6 is fine
>7 is why tf didn't they color the office creatively
>8 has no soul, plain setting, plin character design.
Mermaid Man
Pikachu...easy on the jelly filled donuts
> soul vs soulless is a me....
