I noticed that some authors can create asspulls and no one says anything. But series like BnHA get flamed to death. Why is Araki allowed to give someone a random convenient new ability with 0 explanation but another series can't do the same? Why do we make fun of one author but not the other?
I noticed that some authors can create asspulls and no one says anything. But series like BnHA get flamed to death...
because it's not an asspull, he doesn't get the powers right away and it makes sense
you don't really get the point of jojo's, do you?
You don't get the point of my thread do you? You came in here to throw a question at my question you cunt.
Damn he got BTFO
This isnt an asspull tho. And jojo well i would say its appeal are the asspulls araki makes up because it is bizarre? At least thats how i see it.
Mob psycho 100 season 2 episode 13 quote:
>Mob: “just having powers doesn’t mean everything works out for you”
Because Deku was already on course to become the strongest hero in the verse, giving him more powers is retarded.
It's like if you gave Saitama actual super powers, why does he need it? He already outclasses everyone
Are you even reading this manga? You sound like an outsider who is just reading what other people say. Everyone who has read this manga knows that him getting extra powers is related to the story and one for all's origin and one of the core elemnts of the plot is about quirk evolution.
Are you braindamaged?
Are you?
Because everyone I see defend this seems to forget that All Might even when weakened to hell still outclasses every hero in the series and that Deku was going to become stronger than an All Might in his Prime.
Now he's already got a power than make Tape boy completely worthless and Froppy half useless.
How many more UA students is Deku going to trivialize with new powers on top of the one that was destined to have before you wake up and realize the idea of a one character manga is fucking boring and bad writing?
BNHA has the property of having a wide and varied cast that everyone can find someone to like in.
Naturally when their favorite character gets shafted in favor of the MC they get angry. It always happens.
Yeah so when EVERY character is shafted then you have a problem.
Many reasons.
1) Jojo started out weird and retarded, people know what to expect. BnHA didn't, took itself seriously, and taught you to expect logical resolutions to conflicts that don't insult your intelligence. Of course people would get mad when it stops doing that. It's like admitting you're not good enough to stand by the tacit promise you made to your audience.
2) Jojos are not underdogs. Jojos are not outsiders or nobodies trying to make it big, they all come from a respected lineage and are privileged, if not always by life, by the genes, morality, and strength of character they all share. It's okay if Giorno's powers don't make sense or Jesus helps a Jojo. But it is not okay when a character who's defined by not having anything to his name and earning everything he has through sheer hard work and effort is handed everything on a silver platter instead of earning it. And no, training after you get everything on a silver platter to use said everything doesn't count.
2) You watch BnHA and Naruto because you want to watch the process of David the underdog turning into Goliath. But you watch Jojo because you just want the protagonist to keep doing crazy weird badass things and beat everyone in his way until he reaches his personal objective. A shortcut in writing a Deku isn't as easy to forgive as a shorcut in writing a Jojo is.
>Deku gets more powers
>All Might didn't
>THIS IS HOW ONE FOR ALL WORKS THO
>No prior mention outside a throwaway line about how it stockpiles power from prior users
This is why it's dumb. They established early on that All Might was obscenely OP and was a Punch Man power set to the point he could change weather patterns.
Hori is just bad at writing an MC. Deku is the least interesting guy he writes and he's trying the old shonen strat of throwing abilities at him to try and make him hold an audience. Instead he should just remove Deku as a factor and write the guys who are actually interesting.
>You watch BnHA and Naruto because you want to watch the process of David the underdog turning into Goliath.
No. I watch Naruto because I want to watch Naruto win in a ridiculous over the top way, same for Deku.
Good for you then. At least you will never get butthurt over asspull writing.
I wonder how many more OH MY 7 QUIRKS moments you can take before it spoils your enjoyment. Probably an infinite amount as long as Deku gets a shiny cool looking powerup, that's how shit your taste is. But that's fine, you do you.
People only give a series shit for asspulls if it has absolutely nothing going for it, as is the case with Boku no Hero.
Araki's been doing the same thing for decades and people are used to the kind of inconsistencies that Jojo has. I don't read MHA but I imagine people feel like Deku getting so many powers kind of breaks the power system and is just another example of the main character getting narrative based help that makes the story less interesting.
A better question his why he did Deku another 6 quirk? Did he get bored by him only having superstrenght? Did he really like the hero getting accostumed with his power so this way he can have the same character arc 6 in a row? And what will do now? unlucking a newpower every fight?
JoJo is campy enough that the asspulls are kind of charming, since they fit the bizarre, surreal tone of the series
it would still be better without them though
Samefag
lol
This is so fucking cringy
This. It's no surprise that the moment Deku is out of the picture, the manga is magnitudes better.
The fact that the manga spelled it out in plain words and with an illustration to show that it wasn't a metaphorical but literal statement, and you still somehow missed something written for elementary-age kids, is pretty sad.
No sadder than your complete inability to power scale and understand why Deku needing more powers is asinine.
the reason why he needs it is because the author can't come up with ways for deku to creatively use his power so he just gave him 6 more. It's just an excuse for bad writing.
>power scale
Its a story not a video game
Is that what Isekai did to anime audiences?
if you're going to use jojo at least use the most asspull jojo.
Mob > Deku
If you think power scaling only applies to video games then you're retarded
Things don't have to be balanced outside of videogames
balance has nothing to do with power scaling
Have some dignity OP, for fucks sake.
That is the context of this thread though
>no foreshadowing or anything
>Dio's World is 18 chapters long
>Jotaro continuously moves through Dio's time stop
this, it could have been:
>the bullet only grazed my head but I still pretended to be dead for half the season to confuse the enemy
>I should have died but was revived just because "it's not my time to die yet"
or even last episode's:
>the bullet I turned into a tree turned back into a bullet at the perfect angle which I had no way to predict and still had its momentum somehow and then came straight through my enemy's head while somehow simultanously staying inside his head and turning into a bug because I knew the enemy would survive being shot through the fucking head and just play dead in order to ambush me
>Power Scaling=Game Balance
You can't be this stupid.
Power Scaling is measuring how strong a character is you retard
Yes they do, because then you end up in the situation where people constantly ask 'Why have X character if Y character is superior?' or 'Why isn't Y character solving all the problems when Z group is only X group's level'? Etc.
Prime All Might and by extension Deku with OFA mastered trivializes every character already, so why Deku needs MORE powers is ridiculous
>Power Scaling is measuring how strong a character is you retard
Measured against what?
>Yes they do, because then you end up in the situation where people constantly ask 'Why have X character if Y character is superior?
The only way you don't get that is if everyone is equally strong.
>BnHA didn't, took itself seriously, and taught you to expect logical resolutions to conflicts that don't insult your intelligence.
It wasn't like that in the very beginning.
>ALL MIGHT DIDN'T DO IT
Who gives a shit? From the get go the manga showcased that Deku's utilization of OfA was always going to be different from it given that he interacted with the ghosts and AM didn't.
>No prior mention outside a throwaway line
>throwaway
>CAME AT THE PIVOTAL MOMENT OF THE SERIES THAT EXPLAINED IT'S ORIGIN
This is why people make fun of you dumbasses. Just be honest and say that you don't like it versus its poorly written and came out if nowhere.
>Measured against what?
It doesn't need to be measured against SOMETHING, it's like measuring a liquid in a measuring cup. But in this context against other characters in the series.
>The only way you don't get that is if everyone is equally strong.
That would be true if All Might wasn't so far ahead of everyone else it's laughable.
Like look at Ilda's brother. He's stated to be as fast as a rocket ship. Yet All Might just by dodging Bakugo's point blank explosions while weighted puts him at roughly 45% the speed of the fastest known space craft launch in history.
And All Might was weaker in that fight than he was against Nomu, which was already 1/60th of his Prime strength.
So Ilda better learn what the Speedforce is if he wants to be relevant
How does it breal the power system when they're characters with multple quirks from the beginning of the story?
A lot of this is you pulling shit out your ass.
>It doesn't need to be measured against SOMETHING
Then it isn't scaled.
>That would be true if All Might wasn't so far ahead of everyone else it's laughable.
Which is a story aspect and not a problem.
>So Ilda better learn what the Speedforce is if he wants to be relevant
Apparently they have something like that with Iida ripping his mufflers out
Again I see a lot of power measuring in your post.
Araki's figts aren't boring as shit, for one.
How does this shafts anyone? It doesn't fucking change anything.
>Araki's figts aren't boring as shit
My problem isn't that it's an asspull. I was one of the people who assumed this reveal would eventually come, even though I thought it'd be foreshadowed more. It's more like asspull insurance. I'm not mad yet but I feel like I will be in the future. Also yes it does seem like it'll make Todoroki and Bakugou look like chumps in the long run.
>Looking up the detonation velocity of nitroglycerine (Which Bakugo uses for his explosions), the fastest rocket, and using All Might's own statements is pulling shit out of my ass
Good to know you want to remain ignorant while claiming people don't follow a story made for kids.
>Then it isn't scaled.
Says who? You who have clearly shown no aptitude in scaling at all?
>Which is a story aspect and not a problem.
Except it IS a problem when part of the charm of your series was having a classroom of students who are unique but they all get no screen time because your main character ends up doing everything himself
>Apparently they have something like that with Iida ripping his mufflers out
Oh so you scaled Iida's new top speed? Show me your research.
>Also yes it does seem like it'll make Todoroki and Bakugou look like chumps in the long run.
Hey look its a retarded characterfag
>Nobody is allowed to like more than just the MC
Are they not the most notable rivals? Should I have included Tokoyami? He's pretty strong.
No he's saying you're stupid for wanting to like a character besides Deku
>Looking up the detonation velocity of nitroglycerine
You already fucked up by applying real life science to fucking fiction.
>rocket, and using All Might's own statements
Post them.
>Says who?
When nothing you stated us in the manga so.....
>Except it IS a problem when part of the charm of your series was having a classroom of students who are unique but they all get no screen time because your main character ends up doing everything himself
Wait so you're saying the fucking MC in the story shouldn't do anything? Are you fucking stupid?
>Oh so you scaled Iida's new top speed?
Like how yoy scaled his brothers in ypur made up synopsis.
I don't give a fucking shit who you like but you're hatred steeming from you not wanting your favorites being put on a bench isn't a fucking flaw.
No he's stupid for disliking the MC being the fucking focal character in a story about him.
Sadly Part 5 is so goddamn shit, that the rest of the part will get even worse. Why is it so bad?
The momentum of the bullet wasn't conserved, it got its momentum from hitting the spinning blades. And in the manga at least Giorno says that once the bullet exited his head, it turned into the beetle larva and essentially crawled back to the wound. I actually think the anime does a better job of explaining it because it highlights that the bullet was chipped and a small piece of it was embedded in Cioccolatta's head, and so the rest of the bullet once alive returned to that fractured piece. It's still stupid but it does kind of make sense. Abdul being shot in the head and living is stupid too and I don't think you'll find anyone that will defend it.
>You already fucked up by applying real life science to fucking fiction.
Then maybe Hori shouldn't use a real life chemical as the base of Bakugo's power
>Post them.
This is right after the 300 punches on Nomu. 300 divided by 5 is sixty. Meaning he is 60x faster in his Prime than he is weakened, and before you say 'That's his punching strength' not his speed, OFA stated that All Might had gotten slower saying reaching him after leaving the LoV base in 30 seconds was too slow for him.
>When nothing you stated us in the manga so.....
So I guess if Rocky 3 didn't outright say Rocky got weak as shit from living a life of luxury that message wouldn't exist because it's not there? People can parse information without it directly being told you know.
>Wait so you're saying the fucking MC in the story shouldn't do anything? Are you fucking stupid?
There's a very large gap between Deku doing nothing, and Deku doing everything. You just seem to be in the latter's camp.
>and Deku doing everything.
Good thing he doesn't.
The only villain he beat on his own was a fucking youtuber.
>Why do we make fun of one author but not the other?
What are you talking about, we constantly bash Araki on jojo threads. The problem is that fiction is always full of asspulls, because the plot isn't written by the logical and sometimes random (at least from our perspective) laws that rule the universe, the plot is written by an author that will always force the hand of fate in the direction that he needs or wants. Writing fiction is like performing a magic trick, you know it's not real magic, but the magician has to sell you the imposibility of the trick, despite both of you knowing that it's, well, a trick. An asspull is what happens when the magician doesn't perform proper misdirection to distract from the fact that he's doing a mundane trick.
To compare, one of the most famous asspulls of Jojo is Jotaro getting time stop against Dio. Jotaro gets time stop, but the fight doesn't lose any dramatic stakes. In fact, I have to grant it to Dio the fact that he calmly assessed the new situation, instead of going into a "IT'S NOT POSSIBLE" rant and instantly jobbing. The fight is still pretty dramatic, and the tension distracts you from the fact that Jotaro got a power with some very flimsy foreshadowing. In contrast, Deku getting the extra six quirks got too much attention for the little amount of foreshadowing it had (considering that we witnessed at least two other OfA users and none of them had a clue). That, on top of having lots of smaller asspulls before this one, and the fact that just handing Deku new powers instead of creating new techniques or developing his own quirk feels creatively bankrupt. Despite of that, I hesitate to call it an asspull. It had little foreshadowing, but it was there, from the way that the original OfA worked, you could extrapolate that this would happen, and also from Deku entering Avatar state against Shinso. But in the end, it makes both the character and the story more boring.
Because with Jojo, the asspulls are at least interesting. You're left wondering what kind of ridiculous, impossible trick the hero is going to pull off to defeat the villain. Araki puts actual thought into his asspulls. Plus, the absurdity is played up, so you're not conditioned to take everything so seriously and you can let yourself get roped into the bizarreness. The whole series operates under the rule of cool.
With MHA, we all know what's going to happen and how. The fights are never going to be interesting. The characters are going to fight and the character with the higher power level will win. Sometimes the hero will be on the ropes, but will win by asspulling new levels of power and quirking harder. Before, Deku would just quirk harder by getting a bigger number, but now he can quirk harder by gaining new quirks entirely.
>The only villain he beat on his own was a fucking youtuber
I have to admit that at least Hori knows the things with which his public would be familiar
I like how there isn't constant escalation
Compared to the monster that chisaki was Gentle was understandable and much weaker.
Still worked because of the different circumstances.
>Araki puts actual thought into his asspulls.
I love Jojo, but I'm not entirely sure I could go 100% behind that affirmation
>You're left wondering what kind of ridiculous, impossible trick the hero is going to pull off to defeat the villain.
> The whole series operates under the rule of cool.
Well, that's actually true. I think that part of Araki's magic is that he doesn't bother with the question "will the heroes win?" because he knows that we know that of course they win, so he focuses more on the "how will they win?". And when he actually let the heroes lose it feels like a punch in the gut.
Gentle is one of those filler villains that you know that only appear so the hero can try out a new ability, but he turned out to be kinda interesting, with his quirk and his (admittedly stupid) motivation. He fits with the other villains that seem to be people that can't find a place on society. He ruined everything by giving the loli that stupid power instead of anything a little more thought out, why does he always have to fall into superstrenght or becoming giant?
Gentle will definitely be back helping the heroes.
I can already see him appearing as a joke to make Deku think he is doing something again before revealing he is doing some program for the government.
I think you are the one not reading the manga, Allmight already managed to beat AFO even when he was running on fumes, and All might and AfO are already galaxies ahead in terms of power, deku can shit on everyone with physical strength alone, he does not need any more power.
It would be different if AfO haf escaped prison and was running around, raping heroines and stealing quirks, but Deku getting even more power while AfO is still safely trapped in jail is just retarded.
The entire point of All Might retiring is that other heroes would no longer be able to just rely on him, life as a hero would become much harder, but also more rewarding now that All Might is not there to overshadow everyone else, but now Deku is the one that is going to trivialize and make all the other heroes redundant, no one else in class can even close to him already, and now he is getting even more power.
>deku can shit on everyone with physical strength alone
Bullshit
100% was not enough for Muscular.
>Be quirkless faggot
>get the strongest quirk ever + 6 other quirks just because
Is Deku the laziest MC from a WSJ manga? Most mangas have the MC train for long periods of time but Deku gets new powers just because he is Deku, this is literally Fairy Tail levels of shit writing.
It's a matter of internal consistency. And truth be told, BnHA seems to be getting off pretty light for this.
>b-b-but he worked out after he was promised the strongest quirk ever so the fact that what he gets out of OfA drastically outweighs the amount of effort he puts in doesn't matter!
>mha fan
>having dignity
I still don't see the problem
Everybody else is born with their quirk
Its not like he doesn't have to work it out afterwards.
Oh look it's the ESL sperg again.
Where can I find more of these paints?
Just wait till dragons dream.
Dragon's Dream is only boring if you refuse to put any thought into how it works and just expect Araki to spoonfeed you all the relevant information about feng shui. Araki made a power too high concept for some people apparently.
I should reread it, because I don't remember it being as boring as everybody claims it to be. I remember that it left me an impression of being too ridiculous, but I don't remember much more than the dragon helping both you and your enemy because balance, and being a troll stand that definitely wouldn't like having.
Where is this stated or even implied? Deku becoming #1 is a major part of the story. It's not unreasonable to question how things can be kept as interesting when his main competition for that position already had less room to grow than him going by our current knowledge, and now there are even more eggs in his basket. Your argument is just
>The main character is the main character
Yeah no fucking shit. The complaint stems from how engaging his personal journey is.
>Dragon's Dream is only confusing if
Fixed that for you. It's boring either way
Fuck, why is he so cute!?
Muscular only took 2 full power hits. Eventually deku is going to be able to use those hits as freely as he uses his low power full cowl.
at the literal end of the series
>Eventually
Maybe. But that still leaves the power vacuum right now.
