Yeah it’s pretty stupid, although the same can be said about literally every romantic pairing Toriyama has ever written except for Gohan/Videl. For the most part he just writes male and female characters separately and then just later crackpairs them together.

Teenage Gohan and Videl is the only time he actually wrote characters with the specific intention in mind of making a compatible match for each other.

I don't really see how it is unrealistic. Especially considering 18 was brought up differently and not exposed to the same cultural ideals of men. You can see a lot of this highly attractive woman with a man far out of her league in other countries. Women look for other things than men, almost universally financial security and a good father for her kids.

In Japanese they're called Artificial Humans but its also the same word for Android so thats probably their basis for the translation

I'm comparing Krillin to the other human characters, mainly Tien and Yamcha. The saiyans have a tendency to fight and that overrules all other senses, so it's hard to find bravery in their actions when it can equally be attributed to some instinctive aggression. I think Tien displays the highest bravery in the series, especially with his suicidal Kikoho attack against Cell and Buu, but he's also a recluse and not very well adjusted socially speaking. Krillin leans closer to Yamcha in being an easygoing guy, but Yamcha seems to bow out of the series around the Cell arc while Krillin stays on a bit longer with the actions I spoke about in my previous post. Granted, it's not the best love story in the world, but in a world of limited super people and the two main ones are already taken, Krillin is the next best option. Yamcha was cheating on Bulma at this time and Tien seems to be strongly asexual, or leans on Chaotzu for that.

I think, in 18's case she was sheltered ever since she was a child and had basically 2 men in her life it's not entirely ridiculous the first man she meets who tries to woo her and makes an altruistic wish for her and her brother (that she wouldn't have known of) would leave a deep impression. I’m just arguing his romance with 18 is dumb as fuck, but Krillin is smart and crafty, able to maintain relevance in fights despite not even being all that powerful, and he might be a natural coward but he shows true balls by overcoming his cowardice which is inherently more impressive and respectable than only being brave because you’re actually a just a reckless moron like the average Saiyan.
