The state of anime/manga in non-English-speaking countries

Is anime popular with normies where you live? Do they watch more than just the ~5 mainstream series?

Can you find official anime releases in your language?

Anime is niche even in Japan. It's going to be even more niche in other countries.

In my University I regularly see people wearing anime related stuff or speaking about it.

In IT I'd say about 30-40% of people have watched several anime at least and speak about it openly.

Also, when I wear my very low power level manga and/or anime themed T-shirts I notice a LOT of people in the 12-45 years old range staring at them.

In Venezuela it's normal for normies to watch Dragon Ball and Captain Tsubasa (they're shown on pay TV) but not that many people watch anime series other than those, though you should be able to find a small group of people who do in every 6th grade classroom and up.
I'm pretty sure that every 45-55 year old woman has watched Candy Candy.

Manga scene is dying because millennials not buying physical books anymore.

Anime scene is also dying albeit slowly thanks to digital TV expansion.

Isnt your country under a socialist dictatorship? They let you watch anime?

Indofag here. Official manga catalog is pretty expansive and the scanlation scene is pretty alive. Look at @elexmedia or @comic_lxlc twitter for an idea of official manga releases. I'm personally waiting for 5toubun licensing which they teased in March.

Anime is pretty popular as well and I think we have fansub for almost all airing anime, though I watch in English anyway. Anime films are also shown in theaters. I watched Fate movie in March and I think they're showing Osomatsu-san and Love Live movie as well. Tenki no Ko is rumoured to be shown as well.

Although Dragonball and Naruto are somewhat known among normies, they know just that and nothing more. They don't even watch Naruto these days, finding it too weird, but Dragonball is A-OK. It's still the "it is a cartoon, so that's for children".
No official releases in my language aside from Arc-V being dubbed very, very, very horribly. There are subbers but they do 1 show per session and usually the top reddit pick.
Oh, yeah, when I was young, they accidentally put hentai on the TV at 21:00 in the last cartoon slot. That hentai got infamous, but I forgot its name, was about bunny girls.

Otherwise, the anime diehards are few. Sci-fi loving folks know of Ghost in the Shell (not the movie) and NGE, but never watch anything beyond that. The other bigger group is the action-focused one who loves Hellsing and Black Lagoon but wouldn't touch anything else.
Then there are those who still swear that One Piece is the pinnacle of shonen and that Mirai Nikki will never be topped. I hate those guys.
