Objectively, it had very inconsistent animation quality and Fukui was overdoing it with 'muh Ideon homages' and 'muh Saraba best Yamato evar!1' instead of developing the most promising plotlines and ideas properly. There was also his absolutely cringe Gary Stu donut steal OC (pic related) who was apparently meant to replace my bligga Abelt, but, thankfully, Fukui chickened out (or someone managed to knock some sense into him). Though the little shit still succesfully cockblocked and replaced one of 2199s best girls (good thing he dies). Despite all that it was pretty decent, just not as good as 2199. I was initially turned off by the CG but I remember seeing someone post amazing background stitches from the first few episodes so I gave it a try. I had a lot of fun watching it so it's rather disappointing that everyone ignored or forgot about it immediately, though I understand why.

What really surprises me is I haven't walked into a book shop and seen the novels translated and printed by a big name publisher out of nowhere. There's an appetite for urban fantasy amongst normalfag bookworms who pick up foreign lit, especially Japanese, and you'd think this ticked all the boxes. I hope it's just a matter of waiting to buy a full package when the books are done.
