As someone who recently read one piece, after failing to do so 3 times (quit during alabasta, then quit again during skypeia twice), this is true. Oda has done with one piece something that I haven't seen done in many manga. The fact that Shanks, a character we've barely seen is still a big question mark is something that'll be a huge fucking payoff once we see him go into action. It seems like there's a shitstorm on Yea Forums every time he appears on panel and for good reason.

I'm pretty sure most people who like one also like the other, they just don't respond to any of the obvious baits from people who are clearly not a fan of either series. There are people on Yea Forums dedicated to going into battle shounen threads and trying to start some rivalry between fanbases. You have to be really stupid to fall for that.
