When no one makes OC and you notice this, then you are the one who creates that. If it sticks then good for you (and Yea Forums) if it doesn't then just try sometime after. I remember some thread along these lines and some time after we had the laughing whores update, Daicon IV and V drawn by Yea Forums and that fake chart that gets posted from time to time.
If you think you have some idea then mature it a little and post it instead of waiting for someone else to come with something that will also may or may not stick.

You're right but I think there's also the need for an atmosphere that gives the push for OC. There has to be the feeling that the users are more or less on the same wavelenght when it comes to references and general knowledge. Now Yea Forums seems more disbanded in a way.

The sheer amount of simulcast anime coming out makes it hard to have as many shared references. It's easy enough for 2 people to watch 10+ shows each season and have no common ground.
It doesn't really matter when it's quite clear that the people watching certain types of shows will watch similar things.
Also some things like Hisomaso got tons of OC that doesn't need any reference or other knowledge or even many people watching it.

Yeah, I think the focus has mostly shifted from "board-wide" (or even Yea Forums-wide) content to more focused singular threads, even if some get pretty circlejerky. Thankfully anime originals are still a goldmine, but I hope there's a new high budget trainwreck soon.
