As far as differences...yeah, I prefer the anime so much more. The manga was typical of so many manga that need to be gritty and sexual/sexually violent just to get noticed. Namely that Gene was going to get a whole new ship, which seems rather odd after all the time they spent hyping up the XGP as one of the greatest vessels ever created. I could get if he had to use a new ship for a little while, but it sounded like he'd have just ditched the Outlaw Star for good and leave poof Gilliam to rot.

I really loved how much the ship designs diverged.
From the two examples of Ctarl ships shown, they greatly valued spacious interiors and nature. Even in a small cargo hauler they had running water on the bridge.
Human ships are more to our current aesthetics and heavily employ assistive AI (with the most advanced small vessels shown offloading to androids) while the Ctarl apparently don't.
