To me it just feels like bad timing, because the industry has also shifted a lot in the past half decade. iirc, the majority of the important DSOD animators were freelancers or past employees who hadn't touched Yugioh in a long, long time.
If x amount of yen is necessary to keep the show on air and there's no way around it, is Konami/NAS just going to cut funding there and can the show? Obviously they didn't. Yugioh anime's format (which hasn't changed since the early 2000s) is like an active repellent for competent animators who have better opportunities open to them with how much anime is made these days.

Yusaku really needs an emotive reaction to somebody, he can't be the first MC to not have an emotive reaction that the audience can feel it. Compared to the scene with Yusaku and Kusanagi aftermath duel, that lacked a lot of development between them so we could care about Yusaku being sad:

The artists are probably under some kind of non ownership of the product contract since they are referred at as "Official Card Game Illustration Team". I also doubt they work alone very often since the art of the cards has some sort of graphic line/uniformity to it that makes me think they share the work.
If Konami doesn't release products depicting the monster it's only because they weren't confident enough about it or they just don't want to get out of their comfort zone of selling shiny cards to work with external companies. I certainly hope the big success this artbook is will make them consider expanding their line of products.

On S1 I was expecting him to actually beat Playmaker and that keep the me very nervous during the duels.
