Because nowadays they are cucked beyond any measure.
Violence only happens on the lowest level of organization, and 99.99% of the time no one gets killed. All the high-ups are basically your classic western shady businessmen with close ties to government officials. They are the ones most interested in not starting any shit because as Japanese police force has proven time after time - if yakuza would have tried to do anything serious on the level of Mexican cartels - they would all get fucked within a week.

I.e government has yakuza by the nuts and only tolerates most civilized and harmless types of crime, taking a cut of their profits. This allows them to tap into the shadow economy of their own country which is always nice.

They are all alcohol addicted has-beens that try to act tough, it's honestly sad to watch.

Yakuza are mostly just mediocre porn directors in cheap suits, who maybe engage in a bit of human trafficking. They get their shit pushed in by the Nigerians anytime they scrap lol

The guys that work as the fronts of the soaplands are pretty nice guys. I mean, it's because they're trying to get you to spend money, but I had some pretty funny and interesting conversations with a few while I was in Yoshiwara.

I watch probably every Yakuta doc i could find, they interview real Yakuza, ex-Yakuza and policemen.
You might find a bunch of suits at a gathering, but the normal yakuza roaming the streets dresses like a fuccboi with gucci sandals and shit.
The black suit mythos simply came from the older era, where a suit was a common garb, not exclusive to a Yakuza.

Watch Outrage. It's directed by Beat Takeshi, and is a hard look into what the Yakuza is actually like. The sequel is good and he recently premiered a third movie last year.

Yakuza are social outcasts so it's free to make fun of them. They descend from outcast families who had all the shittiest roles in shintoism.

Yakuza is not like the Italian Mafia, we just tend to think so because we're used to thinking the mafia is always the same thing, regardless of country.

Sometimes in Italy someone gets shot in the middle of the day in the middle of the streets because he had ties to the mafia.
A lot of times, entire towns live under the mafia's protection and hide their shady activites.
In the past, a lot of judges and politicians in the south got killed, exploded, tortured, one time a kid got melted in acid IIRC.
Shops that don't pay protection money get fucked up.
Legit Mafia wars and clan wars sometimes.
Some witnesses for bad stuff get killed...
I don't know what happens in America, but here in Italy that's how the mafia works.

The yakuza is a lot more in the open and a lot less violent.
It's illegal shit nonetheless, but people usually don't get killed by them, therefore it's easier to joke about.
