The only thing the anime botched was the French chapter. Some chapters were skipped though, so you should start from the beginning.

Skipped a few chapters and maybe a few references to those chapters but it's a very faithful adaptation otherwise.

I think he just means this arc has felt longer than it should, like I think alot of the negativity was and still does come from how it started but even putting that aside the Culture Festival was also pretty slow without feeling baldly paced imo.

They're characters from the original tale, and since most of the others have shown up/been mentioned it's pretty likely they will be too.

No, they have only been namedropped but we know they will be important in the future as they are related to the tale of the bamboo cutter. Abe in particular should become the last member of the student council.

I would say that this is possible if it wasn't clear as day that Ishigami and Miko are going to be together which makes me think he's pairing all the important characters from the tale with each other.

I don't get why people think this arc is too long. It deals with the massive flaws and insecurities of the main characters that have been showed during the entire manga, of course it's not something that can be done in a few chapter, because it would feel both rushed and shallow.

Gotta point out there were TWO Abes in the tests. One was a second year(Kazune) and the other a first year(Yayuyo)

I'm more neutral on that argument, These are important issues that need to be given the time to be built up to and resolved well but I also think chapters like 142-145 felt very...unsatisfying to read weekly, 143 in particular I just think is superfluous in hindsight.

I do like this arc but I also think if it was going to be this long, the beginning shouldn't have been as annoying as it was.

The general mind games premise was exchanged for misunderstandings galore after Miyuki Shirogane Wants to Answer.
It pops up now and then but it ran outta steam real fast.
