What does that even mean? Explain how and why Natsuo decided on Rui and fell in love with her. Natsuo wasn't over Hina yet when he rejected Rui's feelings, which led him to seek out Hina. After that ended badly with Hina pushing him away, Rui was still there and took action to comfort his pain. After that, she rejected Natsuo by hating him so that they would drift apart once she had time to think, but the main reason was due to guilt. Rui was the one who said "i wont hold back for Hina anymore". and Natsuo told Rui "dont make me more conflicted". If anyone threw a wrench it was Rui.
Aside from the drunk confession, Hina did nothing to intentionally ruin Natsuo and Ruis relationship. Once she knew she never tried to snatch Natsuo away, most ofwas circumstantial, not part of some greater scheme.

That can explain why Natsuo was able to turn affection into love for Rui. Hina was away, and Natsuo saw lots of Rui.
Add that to: Rui's "im not going to hold back for Hina anymore" and consistently pushing herself on Natsuo that by the time Natsuo met Hina, Rui had become an 'important person' to Natsuo. but forced to choose he'd chose Hina.
Then Hina dumped him, And Rui ended up still forcing herself onto Natsuo during the storm. Believing Hina was no longer an option, he chose Rui because she was there for him when he needed help and he knew she still loved him.
That should be explanation enough.

It took over six months for Natsuo to even meet Hina again, and at that point he had heard she had moved on by Shuu, then told by Hina it was over, all the while Rui was there to support him when he was sad and vulnerable.

I wonder about that. They were together for 1.5 years and in that time

Their first time was when they first met
Then Natsuo and Rui has sex the first week they were together. But then Natsuos dad confronts him to not "listen to porn so loudly" so they stopped having sex at the house.
Then maybe the hotel with old people? But it was so cold they only slept together naked it seems (Natsuo wined about blue balls)
Then Natsuo had 'special school' on weekends so they couldn't go out.

and when Natsuo moved into the apartment, they would of had more chances before that once a month stuff. But Natsuo had collage, Rui cooking and Rui avoided Natsuo for over a week during that time, twice, because of fears of Hina and her sliced hand.
Otherwise the most sex they have was back in high school. but since Natsuo was with extra studies and Rui with cooking before they graduated the events would of been scarce.

Not impossible they would of found more time than whats shown though. but it looks like sex moments became more scarce as time went on
