Can somebody please explain to me what the hell happend? So after finishing anime and it leaving bittersweet taste, I read manga from airport departure. Without Tenma in the way things started progressing again. Hell Harima had to be escort to Eri, but they decided to end the manga in the next 2 chapters. Was it because of money? Time? Author self-inserting as Harima and not wanting to give him happy end? Is School Rumble Z ending canon?

The finale chapter didn't happen, that's all you need to know. The second to last chapter ties things perfectly with ambiguity of what could happen. But the finale chapter kinda ruins it.

Author started a new monthly series (Natsu no Arashi) and wanted SR to go back to slapstick, so he sabotaged the original with that shitty pie ending and announced Z as a wacky spinoff (even drawing Tenma in a spacesuit).
Naturally, fans were pissed and shat on Z so hard it ended after just ten chapters (all collected in just one volume). It was left open-ended so shipperfags could squabble forever while he worked on Arashi and other projects.
I wish he'd retcon both endings and give SR a proper ending, but sadly it won't happen.

I re-read SR a year or so ago and preferred Yakumo though, the stuff with her helping Harima with his manga career (though that ends up going nowhere later on anyway?) was sweet and Eri was a bit a whiny cunt at times

Not that user, but almost all of the girls were great which is pretty fucking rare. Even Tenma Tsukamoto isn't that bad, but she gets overshadowed by other girls in the show.
Too add onto this, one chapter was about karaoke and other was about some reunion which featured Eri dating drunk Harima Links in the image.

There is an actual ending and it was Haruma x Eri. In the end Yakumo (I think that was her name, Tenma's sister) says she couldn't keep going at Arima like Eri. That is the second continuation.
Pic related is from that ending, it is from 2 years ago or less, If I recall correctly. I liked Imouto better, but I was happy he finally moves on from Tenma.

I reread it a few weeks ago as well and it would've been hell when reading it as a weekly series, however my impressions of the story were a lot better when reading it in a whole sitting.
Though there were a few plot points left unadressed, it was probably better this way as I could see them souring the whole story with some student ideas.
School rumble is a nice story about young love and the various forms of love that exist.

Because he wanted to do it and he was tired of the romance drama that SR was headed in (even though he steered it that way). The magazine was actually supportive of him because of how big SR was for them. They greenlit Z without hesitation.
SR crashed and burned because he made the mistake of forcing comedy where it wasn't needed. He rectified that with Arashi by directing an anime-only episode full of slapstick while the manga turned dark and serious near the end (which was inevitable given the circumstances). It's a much better ending than SR with a really satisfying payoff. Shame it was never translated.

Even with the axed last arc and idiotic pie ending. School Rumble is still the best RomCom manga ever existed in history of manga. Every character is likeable. The protagonist is pure alpha male, the main girl(s) is god tier. Theres no single hateable thing about this manga (except the pie)
I still wish i live in a timeline where School Rumble finished properly though.
