It's a little late for that, he thinks he's the world's best because of work he isn't doing but he believes he is. Conan feeds him hints when awake and does the entire deduction when he isn't, when Kogoro stops getting knocked out he's not going to know what to do and its going to be embarrassing for everyone when he hangs back as Shinichi steps in and just tears the case apart in 5 minutes, like the diplomat case. The best we can hope for is him getting better over time or retiring because I doubt he'd just want to stop being the hands on detective unless he's cutting out completely. I used to think he'd join back into the force so the focus of deduction wouldn't be entirely on him, but he'd still be a backseat guy completely forgotten.

On that topic, I wish everyone else could become better detectives without Shinichi or Conan having to give them the entire layout of a complex case. Megure certainly seems unaware of everything. Sato does well enough here and there for getting the known culprit, but Takagi usually needs Conan. Sera knows what she's doing but she's a newcomer and young, the long time professionals need to step it up.

I mean, obviously he isn't going to die, but the characters in-universe don't know that, so those scenes are still powerful. We need this for movie 25. The criminal is actively targeting the Detective Boys/Conan and it gets extremely personal. Someone with the mind of Yusaku or Kid but intentions set for pure evil to really get Conan going. Like this year its Conan trying to solve a case for Kid or something while Kid fights Makoto,last year it was Conan needs to solve a case for Amuro. I want Conan to solve a case close to home and for himself and the people directly involved in his everyday life.

Aoyama backed off this years ago and the filler seems to be the only big source. I think the school trip arc kinda hinted at her feelings again when she said not to get intimate with Ran to him.

As much as I like Kaito appearing in DC I am tired of the whole "Kid is disguised as Shinichi watch as he flirts with Ran" thing.

Gosho probably ran out of ideas for where to take her character with methods that don't involve drastic plot developments. Unless she becomes a BO target somehow, it's hard to think of ways for an ordinary girl like her to take the focus that haven't been tried before. I guess he's saving her finding out (or admitting she knows) Conan's identity for real until the very end. But I hope she gets written into the story more and soon. Often several volumes go by with hardly any Ran and it's way too little screentime for the heroine of the series.

It's not just my fetish speaking but I think it would make good personal growth for Conan. I'd like to see an arc for him where his recklessness finally gets the better of him and he royally fucks up and gets Ran hurt. This gives him a crisis of confidence, which spurs his friends to pitch in and help him get out of the bind he's in until he can sort himself out. A little bit like Jinchuu Arc in RuroKen. This gives the others a chance to show off while Conan can take another step towards maturity and having the aplomb of his badass dad someday.

The way Kid is being depicted in DC is ruining him for me. If they made a normal Magic Kaito movie where Kid isn't ambiguously gay for Shinichi and keeps trying to NTR him, and if Aoko appears, I might start liking him again.
