Different user, but the romance in yoi is only one of the many problems I had with the series. I feel both the show and the staff of the series did too much telling and not showing of whatever romance yoi fans claim it to have because if Yuuri was a girl I feel everyone would think it romance to be on par with bad shoujo series, but bc they're both guys in a series that wasn't ever marketed as bl (at least when it was first announced) everyone can't stop praising it. It just felt very weak and genuine in the end for me to ever take it seriously as a romance, especially since it's there's lots of other series before it that have had things like on screen same sex kisses and what not.
Though I'll also admit that I'm still pretty bitter over the series in general. I was looking forward to it as the ice skating sports anime it originally marketed itself as only for it to hold up very weakly to other sports animes in general on top of lots of untapped potential with it's cast + how it's only remembered for this terrible romance.
